"LabView User: excellent tool for instrument communication"

4/5

What do you like best about LabVIEW?

I use LabView mostly to communicate with other instruments ( Oscope, function generator etc.)I think LabView is very intuitive and easy to use. The NiMax is also very helpful. The debug mode is very excellent to use as well. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about LabVIEW?

The workspace can become very confusing at times. When you have to many blocks it is sometimes hard to realize which block is doing what. Also would be helpful if there was a pseudo code generator to see the logic in your code. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is LabVIEW solving and how is that benefiting you?

I mostly use LabView for instrument automation. It is an excellent tool for that purpose. I also developed it to control an optical imaging system for device testing. Very easy to use and develop. Also quite easy to generate UI. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Great RAD environment especially for scientific use"

4/5

What do you like best about LabVIEW?

LabVIEW allows us to create applications for measurement and automation tasks relatively easily as well as use all the in-depth features for specific programming tasks, larger applications.

And still LabVIEW is an environment that is easy enough to understand and learn for beginners and other people in our company that don't write code on a daily basis but only support our development team from time to time. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about LabVIEW?

LabVIEW is very suitable for a quick start in development—especially tasks where you don't have much time to implement a neat-looking GUI. But for more complex UI designs, LabVIEW would not be my first choice at the moment. Primarily that's due to the lack of tools assisting such UI creations. If you have to use dynamically sized elements, want to create re-scaling UIs or automatically align elements in Grid/Table layouts, etc. - all that stuff is hard to do in LabVIEW at the moment.

Also, the requirement of the large LabVIEW Runtime installation is sometimes hard to communicate to customers. Even a small tool for parsing some files - which you could do in a few kilobytes in other Languages requires our customer to have the full LabVIEW Runtime installed for a couple of hundred megabytes. A way to strip down the components inside the Runtime installation (e.g., purposely keep out the components mathematics, database-stuff, plotting, and other libraries if the application does not explicitly require them), when you create an Installer package through the application builder would be great. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is LabVIEW solving and how is that benefiting you?

We mostly implement applications that act as the main user interface for our measurement devices. The LabVIEW applications are implementing the communication with the hardware, control, and data analysis algorithms and other functions to import or export measurement data for further use. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"LabVIEW in 2022"

4/5

What do you like best about LabVIEW?

LabVIEW lets me efficiently prototype DSP algorithms. However, for production code, I've started to lean on scipy and numpy since it doesn't have the license encumbrance. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about LabVIEW?

The difficulty with LabVIEW has always been the cost and licensing encumbrance. I just received notification that NI is moving to a subscription model for LabVIEW and will no longer be offering perpetual licenses, which is disappointing. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is LabVIEW solving and how is that benefiting you?

Prototyping DSP algorithms such as FIR filtering. Allows me to demonstrate functionality to management before re-implementing in Python. I no longer use LabVIEW in production due to the cost, so it has become more of an R&D tool in my workflow. NI moving to subscription instead of perpetual license is a new downside. "Ideal for prototyping"

4/5

What do you like best about LabVIEW?

LabVIEW, in combination with the NI DAQ devices, allows you to quickly create the hardware and software that will enable you to perform your specific measurements. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about LabVIEW?

The documentation could be more rigorous. Sometimes you need to try some software components to understand what it does.

The cleanup tool that repositions all components does not function optimally. You may spend quite some time making your code readable. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is LabVIEW solving and how is that benefiting you?

I'm prototyping a measuring device with LabVIEW. This way, I can create a functional device without spending much time producing basic hardware and software. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Best tool for creating quick & reliable test"

4/5

What do you like best about LabVIEW?

Relatively low entry to software creation and a lot of fool proof items allowing execution without worrying to much; easy debugging; a lot of ready interface drivers for equipment. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about LabVIEW?

As easy to program, as easy to make mistakes and "dirty" code not suitable for rework and maintenance; block diagram can be hard to read in large applications; execution speed for time critical applications is not on top with lower level languages. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is LabVIEW solving and how is that benefiting you?

Prototyping hardware and realizing component testing is really quick. Creating test sequences and interfaces with test equipment of all sorts is very easy. NI hardware is always easy to integrate and work with, manuals are very well documenting features. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"LabVIEW Review"

4/5

What do you like best about LabVIEW?

I like the ease of use, as well as a community that is responsive to issues. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about LabVIEW?

Some things do not have quick solutions and it takes time to figure out what is wrong. The error handling does not help too much in some of these situations, as the errors give a number that is difficult to look up online. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering LabVIEW:

This is a great tool, but you will need buy in from your team. This is a great software, but it takes some time of getting used to. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is LabVIEW solving and how is that benefiting you?

I am not really having any problems with LabVIEW, but one of the big benefits I am seeing is compatibility with a variety of different companies, which is a plus. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Labview: A great system to save on total development costs."

4/5

What do you like best about LabVIEW?

Labview is flexible, easy to use, and cost-effective; (after the initial sunk investment). Since the programming interface is visual, transfering work to other engineers and conveying design intent is more quickly accomplished. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about LabVIEW?

I'm not a big fan of National Instrument's push to a software subscription model. If I could have my wishes, I would hope that National Instrument's business model would allow for a bit more openness on the hardware side. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is LabVIEW solving and how is that benefiting you?

We primarily develop microfluidics process automation. We've seen a significant time-savings benefit with Labview compared to other development frameworks when time-to-market is critical. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Endless engineering opportunities though tough to get started with no previous experience."

4/5

What do you like best about LabVIEW?

I like the breadth of options that Labview has to offer to form an application. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about LabVIEW?

There are too many ways and paths to develop an application. If you are a casual user and not entrenched in the NI community, it can be challenging to decipher the best way to solve a problem. However, the support engineers are available and eager to help! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering LabVIEW:

LV a great tool for solving laboratory measurement and observational problems. Utilize the support and plan on becoming a subject matter expert to get the most out of the purchase. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is LabVIEW solving and how is that benefiting you?

We are solving a high temperature observational test method that will hopefully lead to automated analysis in the future. I have realized the integration and support from the 3rd parties that NI works with is excellent - Graftek has been working with us through the development process.
