It seems simple on the surface and looks like it has a lot of built-in libraries. Still, we had to purchase additional licenses, and many of the built-in components were confusing and difficult to use correctly. I thought the UI concept would protect against common errors such as memory leaks, but I created one anyway. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. What do you dislike about LabVIEW? Writing code using icons and connections is very time-consuming, and one must learn both the GUI development tool and the library of icons/language. The GUI development tool is buggy, and you are constantly re-arranging icons to keep the code readable. Traditional tools such as version control are not present. You can not share and view the code for review w/o a License. There is a printing option, but the results are impossible to read. If-then and case statements are concealed, only one case may be viewed at a time. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. Recommendations to others considering LabVIEW: Weigh the supporting libraries provided with the extra development time consumed using a GUI and Icons and the learning curve, if not already. It may seem like it's easier at first, but trust me, there is a world of difference between editing a simple text file (and all the available tools) with dragging icons, connecting wires, and trying to understand how each icon behaves. Also, consider how you plan to test the result. It's impossible to write any meaningful tests. Labview does generate a GUI front-end for every code module (even if you don't want it), so if your looking for that is can be a time saver. We are developing critical safety-compliant software for a device with a lot of IO. The assumption is that the executable produced is free from defects and reliable. What do you dislike about LabVIEW? Online training site is not well organized. Have had issues accessing my training. Put in repeated service requests with no resolution. Recently moved entirely to a subscription model and gave their clients who own perpetual licenses all of 2 weeks notice that their licenses would no longer be supported. (right before Christmas!). Visualization of process flows and front end/back end panels. This a great intro program for students as I used this program initially in university for a physiology course which implemented the program for coding a medical diagnosis program. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. What do you dislike about LabVIEW? It was difficult to find certain features used in creating certain programs. This programs may not be the most intuitive if you are not an inquisitive mind. Many students struggled without the help of our instructor but those who spent more time learning the program were able to use it without ease. However, some components of the program that can use some improvement is the option for receiving Help. A question and answer forum would be extremely useful in that users could ask questions and have a resource for answers that is ever growing as more and more users contribute information. Recommendations to others considering LabVIEW: This is a great program if you have trouble visualizing programs and codes. Feedback loops, visualization of feedback loops are especially helpful. I have also solved electrical and mechanical problems. Using currents and digital and analog inputs and outputs. There are several additional parts that can be used with LabVIEW including scales, temperature probes, and pressure sensors.
