## Labster Reviews
  ### 1. Great Lab Experience

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Megan K. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 14, 2024

**What do you like best about Labster?**

I love that the students feel they are in a real world situation. They see all aspects of the lab.
The technology is great and we have very few issues.

**What do you dislike about Labster?**

There are not any real down sides. Always looking for more labs!

**What problems is Labster solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I teach an online section of each of my science courses. Labster helps to provide the lab component.

  ### 2. Engaging Science Simulations

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Charlotte H. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 17, 2023

**What do you like best about Labster?**

Labster offers a wide range of subject specific simulations across all sciences. As an online trainer it allows our learners to interact with and learn from the simulations as an extension to their usual training sessions.
The way it contextualises the lab, often offering a scenario, also let's the learner see science from a different angle, where it is applied to a real life situation and career.
Some of the labs are of a higher education level which covers our HE learners, but also learners who need to have recap of the science as they have not been in education for a while, can have a go at the school level Sims. Something for everyone.
The ability to access the labs on different devices even phone is also useful.

**What do you dislike about Labster?**

Sometimes the voice can be a little annoying, but Labster are addressing this. And there is an option to turn this off.
I would like the option to download the simulation grades as a pdf or excel, to give me more insight into gaps in knowledge but it is possible to look at grades in detail from the tutor menu, so this is just a personal preference and no major issue.

**What problems is Labster solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We train apprentices, from different labs within the same cohort, so it is important that the information they are given is relevant and up to date, scenario based simulations will sometimes cross over with their role in industry which is of particularly important to their learning experience.

  ### 3. Amazing Real-Life Connections

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in E-Learning | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 15, 2023

**What do you like best about Labster?**

I really love that Labster sets its experiments in real-world scenarios and that the actual experiment is set in a "lab". Students get to see and experience the real lab equipment and how the step-by-step process works!

**What do you dislike about Labster?**

One minor drawback is that becuase the program is so detailed, it does take time to load and can freeze on my students school-issued computers.

**What problems is Labster solving and how is that benefiting you?**

They are constantly working to update the simulations and make the tech aspect of it work smoother.

  ### 4. Labster excellent for microbiology virtual lab

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Marc B. | Adjunct Professor of Anatomy & Physiology, Microbiology and Medical Terminology, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 03, 2023

**What do you like best about Labster?**

I teach Microbiology for the pre-nursing program at Webber International University. Being a new program at a campus that was known for its business focus, there were no laboratories on campus. Teaching micro was going to be tricky, since it is a lab heavy course. I discovered Labster, which offers virtual labs in many areas of biology, including microbiology. The labs are focused, engaging, introduce content, and go deep into the focused subject. Some labs are quick, such as how to do a gram stain, and others are longer, such as the basics of immunology. Every virtual lab includes quizzes, and offers guidance to the student user.
I used the labs to cover an objective (Immunology), to provide students a substitute for an actual microbiology lab (staining), and for critical thinking activities (identify an unknown specimen). For the 16 week course, I assign 18 labs, that the students enjoy completing from their dorm rooms! The data is available to me as the instructor. I can see what the students started, what they completed, quiz scores, and more.
Labster virtual labs are high quality learning tools, and well worth the price, which is labelled as the lab fee and charged to the students, who will not need to purchase equipment, or lab books, simply choose and assign the virtual labs. The only requirement is the student needs to have a computer or iPad.
The following is a list describing why I use Labster:
1. 20+ Virtual labs for microbiology, and many other topic areas
2. Easy to set up and use
3. Virtual labs delve deep into subject matter, ie. Immunology
4. Topics help meet course objectives
5. Virtual labs give students a "laboratory experience" when otherwise there would be no experience at all
6. Customer service is fast and effective
7. Instructor can simply observe student progress

**What do you dislike about Labster?**

I have no dislikes concerning the product. The price is a bit high for the university's liking, however the students do not need to purchase a book, and the university does not need to purchase and maintain any lab equipment, and there are no disposables to purchase.

**What problems is Labster solving and how is that benefiting you?**

My university has no laboratory space, and has just opened a nursing school. I am able to teach microbiology, a lab heavy course, by utilizing Labster's virtual labs, which provide a virtual lab experience, while also providing excellent and in-depth content. I am able to meet my course objectives through the use of Labster.

  ### 5. A helpful resource for undergraduate biology courses

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sanjiva G. | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 29, 2023

**What do you like best about Labster?**

Labster is very useful for putting multiple concepts and techniques into a larger context, allowing students to apply what they're learning to a real-world situation.

**What do you dislike about Labster?**

The lack of customization within Labster sometimes made it difficult to incorporate the simulations into our lesson plans. Some of the simulations we used contained extraneous concepts/techniques that didn't align with our curriculum/learning objectives, and I feel that this occasionally detracted from more essential material.

**What problems is Labster solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Labster is a great tool for exposing students to a wide array of lab equipment/techniques (some of which they may not have access to at their institution) and integrating these methods to solve a real-world problem, while also teaching them biological concepts/techniques. The investigative nature of the simulations promote student engagement and inquiry. As an added benefit, Labster simulations can serve as 'make up' or alternative assignments for students with excused absences from lab.

  ### 6. Labster works perfectly for our non-majors biology course

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Nadine K. | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 27, 2023

**What do you like best about Labster?**

The simulations are engaging for the students & they are an excellent low-stakes assessment tool; the students can work through the virtual labs at their own pace the week they are assigned & can complete them as many times as they like to earn the full points. Labster has excellent support services for both students and instructors & has succeeded in building a user-friendly platform with an impressively diverse array of simulations; they continue to add new content to their offerings.

**What do you dislike about Labster?**

I don't have any dislikes; since my institution first used Labster, the company has consistently worked to make their product user-friendly and provide an abundance of support and features that improve the user's experience.

**What problems is Labster solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We have a physical lab capacity issue for our non-majors biology course--one lab room that can hold 30 students. We split all of the lab sections into 2 groups that have a rotating schedule of electronic/online labs & in-person labs; each week one group is in-person while the other group is completing a Labster lab that will help prepare them for the following week's in-person lab.

  ### 7. Transformative Teaching and Learning Tech Tool

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Gini E. | High School Science Department Chair and Teacher, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 10, 2022

**What do you like best about Labster?**

Labster is a transformative teaching and learning tech tool that is absolutely essential for successful delivery of the brain based learning 5e Model of Instruction for Science courses. Labster has increased student engagement and achievement in my Advanced Placement Environmental Science as well as my other courses.

**What do you dislike about Labster?**

The cost of Labster is relatively high for smaller schools. However, when a cost-benefit analysis is completed for Science courses that require disposable and consumable chemicals and other laboratory materials, it is less expensive to invest in Labster.

**What problems is Labster solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Labster allows my students to have authentic laboratory experiences asynchronously, which is hard to achieve in a virtual online hybrid learning model.

  ### 8. Labster saved me time!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Education Management | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 03, 2022

**What do you like best about Labster?**

I started using the Labster platform about 1.5 years ago and am actually kicking myself for not doing so sooner. I teach several Biology courses online and we use the Labster platform for our "virtual labs". While an actual, in-person lab is ideal, it is always not possible. Labster was able to bridge the gap and allowed to to offer realistic, high-quality virtual labs for the topics that we covered in my course. The set-up was easy and they have a massive library of activities (all with instructor resources and answer keys) which have been a tremendous resource for my class. I will continue to use Labster and promote the ease in which I was able to incorporate into my curriculum.

**What do you dislike about Labster?**

The only thing I would suggest to improve would be to make ALL of the simulations ADA compliant and accessible.

**What problems is Labster solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Time management, bridging the gap for topics I need to cover in my course.

  ### 9. Labster is great! An immersive learning opportunity!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jonathan A. | Biology Teacher, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 04, 2022

**What do you like best about Labster?**

When our school first got Labster, the onboarding staff was extremely helpful and down to earth! Enjoyed working with and learning from them!

My favorite feature about Labster is how it makes concepts that are typically difficult to simulate, available for students to experience.

With students coming back from being remote, it has sometimes been a struggle to help the students adjust back to in-person learning. Having Labster has provided ways for students to still collaborate, break out of their comfort zone and still experience science concepts. It has helped some of my students be more willing to move on to real-life lab experiments after having chances to fail and learn from their mistakes online first.

Labster's community is very responsive and open to feedback. They encourage you to participate and provide ways they can improve their product through point-based incentive challenges that can be redeemed for gift cards.

**What do you dislike about Labster?**

It seems that they are working on this but right now, many of the labs include extensive reading, which has its place. However, for students with learning disabilities like dyslexia or who are English language learners, there isn't much differentiation or tools to assist them.

Labster does seem to be very responsive and open to feedback, so I'm sure that tools will be added soon. They already added shorter simulations.

**What problems is Labster solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Labster makes concepts that are typically difficult to simulate, available for students to experience. With students coming back from remote learning, they are very hesitant to devote themselves to things they could mess up. Labster's digital simulation provides a chance for students to regain their confidence and commit fully to other assignments and labs in class.

  ### 10. Excited to see Labster taking off!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Melissa F. | Associate Professor, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 03, 2022

**What do you like best about Labster?**

My students absolutely love the virtual experience as an addition to lecture content. It has helped improve test scores when used as a study supplement for their exams.

**What do you dislike about Labster?**

The only negative comment I have heard from the students is that occasionally they have connection issues if they do not have the best wifi. On the instructor end, I am looking forward to the improved LMS integration.

**Recommendations to others considering Labster:**

I highly recommend using Labster as a supplement for Cell and Molecular Biology courses. My students have thoroughly enjoyed the interactive aspect of the simulations and the ability to put what they have learned in class toward real-world issues/diseases/problems. I am looking foward to the currently expanding Anatomy & Physiology simulations and will be implementing these in my A&P classes in the future. Labster simulations are constantly growing in number and improving. This is a great tool to supplement the classroom!

**What problems is Labster solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I first started using Labster pre-pandemic for helping my students learn about cell culture techniques before getting into the lab. Mammalian cell culture contamination is quite expensive and getting undergraduate students to learn the techniques in a virtual simulation has been a definite time and money saver! In the classroom, I have also noticed increased conversations during lectures about chapter contents and applying what they have learned from the simulations to our course objectives. What a win!

  ### 11. Virtual Laboratory Activity Tool

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Dennis V. | Adjunct Instructor, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 07, 2022

**What do you like best about Labster?**

The ease of use of the product for instructors as well as for students. In addition, it provides the opportunity for students to perform activities that otherwise we won't be able to do due to our limited resources.

**What do you dislike about Labster?**

I don't have anything that I dislike about Labster. Although accessibility is something to be improved although I know students will be able to use Labster on an App this coming Fall, which I think is fantastic.

**What problems is Labster solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Labster provides the opportunity to do experiments virtually. This was a good alternative for laboratory experiments, especially during the pandemic were most of the classes are being conducted online.

  ### 12. A great tool pre and post pandemic

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Manuela T. | Licensed Realtor, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 13, 2022

**What do you like best about Labster?**

The simulations are well designed and realistic! Students like the modern feel and the fact the simulation connects to real-life events. I appreciate the lab manual integrated in the simulations and the questions that keep students engaged during the process

**What do you dislike about Labster?**

Sometimes slow to load on a computer. The integration is tricky but once you follow instructions then you can copy the sections semester after semester. I would like for them to expand the offer for microbiology

**What problems is Labster solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am using labster now as a pre-laboratory activity that my students have to complete before meeting in the lab for the hands-on experiments. It also helps cut the time for the safety part at the beginning of the semester as I use their safety simulation which is engaging for students.

  ### 13. Not like other the virtual platforms

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Primary/Secondary Education | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 30, 2022

**What do you like best about Labster?**

There are many other virtual platforms out there today - however, Labster is different on many levels. Labster provides a challenging environment and diversified topics that are simply not found on other platforms. The gamification atmosphere is one that the students respond to. So, in a way, it is meeting the students where they are while at the same time enabling them to understand the content and explore labs that we just do not have the resources for them to conduct in a public school.

**What do you dislike about Labster?**

While the virtual landscapes are beautiful, multi-layered, and provide real-world experiences for the students; sometimes they can be a little "too big" and glitch. The upside is that the tech support from Labster is beyond amazing and can walk you and your students through any difficulties that you may encounter.

**Recommendations to others considering Labster:**

My students can recall information and experiences within the Labster platform over a year later. This not only increases short-term gains of knowledge but enables you to continually build towards greater mastery because the learning is long-lasting. Are their other platforms out there, yes of course. However, this platform is different in that they have developed virtual labs about topics that I could only dream about conducting in my class. Now, the barrier of cost of running these labs is not there. You can either use these experiences as a pre/post assessment for a lab, or as an extension activity for those students who are truly excited about a topic. The other platforms simply do not have this breadth of topics.

**What problems is Labster solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Labster directly reduces teacher workload by creating unique virtual lab experiences that both engages the students and teaches them valuable skills that they are able to recall longer than with traditional instruction methods. Additionally, the teacher dashboard provides real time data on student performance that can help you tailor your instruction.
