## Kubuntu Reviews
  ### 1. Clean, Customizable, and Stable: Kubuntu with KDE Plasma Shines

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sumisha J. | Senior Software Engineer, Computer Software, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 27, 2026

**What do you like best about Kubuntu?**

Kubuntu provides a clean, highly customizable desktop experience through the KDE Plasma environment, which feels both modern and lightweight. I also value its stability and solid performance, as well as access to a wide range of open-source tools. Altogether, it’s a strong choice for both development work and everyday use.

**What do you dislike about Kubuntu?**

One area where Kubuntu could improve is that its high level of customization can be overwhelming for new users at first. Also, there can be occasional compatibility issues with certain proprietary software or drivers, which may require extra manual setup to get everything working properly.

**What problems is Kubuntu solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Kubuntu provides a stable, secure, and highly customizable operating system that I can rely on as an alternative to proprietary platforms. It benefits me by giving me more control over my system, delivering strong performance for development work, and providing access to powerful open-source tools without the burden of high licensing costs.

  ### 2. Kubuntu: A Reliable and Customizable Linux Experience for Everyday and Professional Use

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mohammad A. | Network Engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 26, 2026

**What do you like best about Kubuntu?**

The best about Kubuntu is its clean and highly customizable desktop environment powered by KDE plasma. It provides a smooth and responsive user experience while maintaining a familiar layout for users transitioning from other operation systems.

**What do you dislike about Kubuntu?**

One aspect I dislike about kubuntu is that the extensive customization options in the KDE plasma environment can sometimes feel overwhelming for new users. Additionally, occasional compatibility issues with certain hardware drivers or proprietary software may require manual configuration.

**What problems is Kubuntu solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Kubuntu helps address the need for a stable, secure, and cost-effective operating system by providing a powerful open-source alternative to proprietary platforms. It offers strong performance even on modest hardware, reducing the need for frequent system upgrades.

  ### 3. Robust OS with Seamless KDE Integration

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Febin K. | Product Engineer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 14, 2025

**What do you like best about Kubuntu?**

I use Kubuntu as my daily driver for writing code, watching videos, and taking notes—it handles everything smoothly. I love the stable operating system, which is familiar and easy to use thanks to KDE. It's very convenient and has an eye-catching interface. The KDE desktop environment is amazing, integrating well with everything around it, especially KDE Connect. I appreciate how it directly connects to my mobile and smart devices and syncs seamlessly. Tasks like sending files to and from my devices have become much easier. I'm impressed that I can even control things like the volume on YouTube when I'm away from the keyboard. The initial setup was easy, and I enjoy using KDenlive, Kate, Krita, and KDE Connect with it.

**What do you dislike about Kubuntu?**

There are some rough edges and bugs with the windowing system in Kubuntu. For example, some of the window snapping doesn't work as expected. Also, when maximizing the window with the global bar, I've noticed that the global bar might not hide itself. But these are one-offs and might be caused by my customizations.

**What problems is Kubuntu solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Kubuntu provides a stable operating system that's familiar and eye-catching thanks to KDE. It's easy, convenient, and integrates well with everything around it. KDE Connect syncs with my mobile and smart devices, making file transfers and remote controls seamless.

**What do you dislike about Kubuntu?**

  ### 28. Better than Ubuntu

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 20, 2022

**What do you like best about Kubuntu?**

Kubuntu (LTS) is my chosen Linux distro for heavy, productivity use. It's official and maintained by Ubuntu developers. The best thing about this is faster than usual Ubuntu because of the difference in GUI. The "K" stands for Plasma KDE, the GUI used. It is lightweight and highly customizable than Ubuntu's GNOME. Kubuntu can be a perfect choice for those who want to use Ubuntu but with a different user interface type. This distribution provides a good KDE experience with the solid core of Ubuntu at the center of the system.

**What do you dislike about Kubuntu?**

The customization of KDE is little bit difficult for those who come from other GUI's. The highly customizing options can take time to get familiar with.

**What problems is Kubuntu solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use it for development. It's less resource-hungry and provides customization. I could develop programs easily on a low-end computer. It's more productive

  ### 29. Linux distro at its best

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jemec L. | Technical team leader, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 18, 2021

**What do you like best about Kubuntu?**

Besides giving you the safety of unix environment, kubuntu gives you and easy and fast interface to use. This is different from regular ubuntu, because of the KDE environment, it puts everything right where it should be, menus are easy to access and you can use it even at work or home, for enterprise or regular user usage, really good.

**What do you dislike about Kubuntu?**

We wish we could see windows or mac compatibility. I mean, it's not that it's bad, but you will always miss everyone doing software for it. This is not a kubuntu itself fault, it's more from the devs side, to the linux platforms.

**Recommendations to others considering Kubuntu:**

You are going safe with ubuntu, this is a very pleasant linux distro to use, so just enjoy the time while you are with it. They give you the free trial for you to check it and you will make sure this is what you really need

**What problems is Kubuntu solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Safety, easy network environment

**Reviewed by:** Carlos F. | Car Rental Agent, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 30, 2021

**What do you like best about Kubuntu?**

Kubuntu it's one of my favorites "lightweight" Linux dependencies, working on it you will find many tools that I want to describe here: Kontact it's a mail application where you will find easy integration with Google calendar, RSS Feed, or an intuitive to-do list. Provides a finder where quickly you can have access to all your information stored like your documents or photos. USB flash drives, SD's, or your phone can be connected. Or you can open and read books, documents easily with the document viewer. Surfing on the internet? Yes of course! you got pre-built Mozilla Firefox

**What do you dislike about Kubuntu?**

Kubuntu it's only supported for 64-bits architectures. If you got an old computer and you are looking to give them a second chance. Isn't supported. Should be great to have support for 32-bits computers.

**Recommendations to others considering Kubuntu:**

I can recommend this operative system for people that are switching from windows or mac os and there are looking for Linux dependencies this one it's one of the most recommended by myself. The system requirements required from the last version it's: 2 GHz dual-core processor, 4 GiB RAM (system memory), 25 GB of hard-drive space (or USB stick, memory card, or external drive but see LiveCD for an alternative approach), VGA capable of 1024x768 screen resolution, Either a CD/DVD drive or a USB port for the installer media, Internet access is helpful. This information it's coming from the official page.

**What problems is Kubuntu solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Well, this is my default operative system where I can take my integration tools like Zoom, Slack, VS Code, and my favorite one! the Terminal.

Ease of use, geared toward Linux and non-Linux users, light the ability to have light and dark themes. It is the best way to introduce anyone into a Unix/Linux environment. Gui is friendly to look at and use. I would recommend it to anyone.

**What do you dislike about Kubuntu?**

I would like to have a bit more user-friendly integration to allow non-Linux users to have the ability to use and relay in a Unix-based environment and all of the security that this entails.

**What problems is Kubuntu solving and how is that benefiting you?**

As with any Unix/Linux backend, the command line is king, and the included tools allow for the testing of networks for various hostnames, domains, and other servers. Also, able to test some different server configurations using Kubuntu to see if Unix implementation is available for multiple applications.

  ### 34. The best light weight OS for almost all the basic needs and embedded systems projects.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sainathan I. | Software Engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 29, 2021

**What do you like best about Kubuntu?**

The most important thing about Kubuntu is that it's lightweight and easy to use, just like the windows operating system. And also its supports all the open-source software right out of the box like LibreOffice, and it also has its proprietary email service called the Kmail. Since it's designed in the KDE environment, it's much faster than Ubuntu. Best for developing cross-compiled applications and firmware for most of the prototyping boards like Raspberry Pi and STM32.

**What do you dislike about Kubuntu?**

There is not much to dislike from Kubuntu. There is very few lightweight OS in the market that solve the purpose. Some of my projects require Embedded Systems development, and there are few OS explicitly designed for that, and I must say Kubuntu also meets some of those requirements.

**Recommendations to others considering Kubuntu:**

Kubuntu is the best fit for all the new people to Linux Environment but wants to have that Windows OS feel. It also helps all the system software engineers who want to write device drivers for their embedded applications. It also features one of the best document viewing and editing tools, like Okular. I would recommend Kubuntu for the electronic design engineers who want to port their current designs to Linux-based systems. You can also install your favourite media apps along side your work apps.

**What problems is Kubuntu solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am pursuing a career in embedded software development. This job involves developing complex software, especially firmware, that will be running in most of the electronic appliances that we use, such as washing machines and also Cars. Firmware here will be device drivers that need to coding in languages such as C and C++. And most of these devices run Linux, and some appliances also use Android because it's also based on Linux.
So Kubuntu has been beneficial since it provides all the tools such as the G++ compiler and has the best debugger pre-installed for the development. Also, it comes pre-installed with Okular, which is the best document viewer for viewing PDF files.

  ### 35. Kubuntu a modern desktop for Ubuntu

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** José Miguel S. | Java developer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 10, 2021

**What do you like best about Kubuntu?**

Apparently is most modern that others like Gnome

**What do you dislike about Kubuntu?**

The worst point is the performance, it's slow than others and consumes a lot of memory, it depends if your computer has enough capacity

**Recommendations to others considering Kubuntu:**

It depends of user's experience, it's a Linux environment, you should test it

**What problems is Kubuntu solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It's free and it's very friendly, it's so similar to windows but has the power of a Linux machine

  ### 36. A light weight linux distro.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Higher Education | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 09, 2021

**What do you like best about Kubuntu?**

The best thing in Kubuntu is that it's an official flavour of Ubuntu. Since the desktop environment is KDE, which is a lightweight environment. It gives a seamless experience even on a legacy machine with ram as low as 2gb. For better experience I would recommend to extend your ram upto 4gb. Additionally, it supports all the applications supported on Ubuntu. If you're new to Linux, this OS is definitely a good choice to start with because of it's user friendly ui and good community support.

**What do you dislike about Kubuntu?**

There is no such thing that I dislike in any of the Ubuntu distro, be it lubuntu or kubuntu or ubuntu mate. The UI and looks are slightly minimal in kubuntu and lubuntu than mate. Everything else is more or less the same.

**What problems is Kubuntu solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am a kubuntu user for 2 years now. I started off with using it for educational purposes which included basics of system administration, shell scripting and getting comfortable in the terminal life. Also, I do most of my development work and day-to-day work on the same system. The benefits are good support, fast and light.

  ### 37. Good environment, based on Ubuntu, however Plasma can improve their performance and animations.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Andres R. | Programmer Analyst, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 18, 2021

**What do you like best about Kubuntu?**

The distribution is stable, the repository is Ubuntu-based. That means while downloading dependencies it should be easier than other distributions such as Pacman. It's one of the most beautiful distributions, and also is continuously being updated to new security improvements, bug fixes-improvements, and new things.

**What do you dislike about Kubuntu?**

Although I like its design, I think it can be improved (user experience), its stability can be improved, I've had some unexpected reboots or sometimes from doing nothing it appears system problem detected and is very annoying.

**Recommendations to others considering Kubuntu:**

I would recommend to others that is a good OS, it's worth it, and it's free, as it's based in Ubuntu if it's your first time using Linux, you would have a good experience, maybe you will ask some questions while installing it because some concepts may be new, but watching videos, will help you a lot, also if you like the personalization, you can watch videos as well. It's a good customizable system.

**What problems is Kubuntu solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Especially it was one of the operative systems I used in the work before they made me use Windows. I used it normally for coding, watching videos, listen to music, and make documents. I like it more than Windows due to its management: users, good for servers, more stability.

Some applications do not work with this OS, but those same ones don't work with any Linux OS, so it's ok and I deal with it.

**What problems is Kubuntu solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Kubuntu helps me with my everyday functions at work. It is where I send and receive emails, interact with corporate files, and chat with other employees throughout the day.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Raymond K. | Proprietor, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 04, 2019

**What do you like best about Kubuntu?**

Kubuntu boasts the famous KDE PLasma interface that is much like the Windows 10 interface with a taskbar at the bottom, menu button bottom left but it's so much more. KDE Plasma is famous for being the most configurable interface available today. It's slick and smooth, highly functional and easy to get used to.

**What do you dislike about Kubuntu?**

The latest Kubuntu 19.10 did not get released with the latest version of KDE Plasma 17.1 but that is easily remedied by adding the Kubuntu backports repository.

**Recommendations to others considering Kubuntu:**

If you want the most logical, easy to use interface in the Linux world, go for Kubuntu. It's hands down the easiest Linux to use even for beginners.

**What problems is Kubuntu solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Kubuntu is very flexible and with a couple of tweaks, it's quite possibly the fastest you could make any computer bar none. The trouble is it takes some investigating and research to get a system to that kind of cutting edge performance. Stock Kubuntu is extraordinary and with some tweaks, it's even better.

  ### 48. I really love it, love KDE.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Program Development | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 01, 2019

**What do you like best about Kubuntu?**

The whole desktop and look and feel. Not problem with my working environment (I'm a Java programmer, in my current we use Cassandra and docker), never had an issue so far. It's not hard to install I get my laptop replaced.
My company works with all Microsoft software (in local machines and cloud), they even suggested us to migrate to Windows and use Windows Subsystem for Linux, but all the Linux users complained and they couldn't do it.

**What do you dislike about Kubuntu?**

No much to dislike. Only that with 18.10 (also with Ubuntu, so it's an issue with the kernel, something changed there), the apps in the docker containers can't see the local dnsmasq, so the containers can't connect Cassandra, and I have to start a dockerized Cassandra. I know there is a work around, but it wasn't straight forward. Before this laptop, I had Kubuntu 18.04 and no issue of this type.

**Recommendations to others considering Kubuntu:**

In my experience, I never had issues with Kubuntu, I find it's UI fancy, cool and friendly. Easy to find things. Never in 5 years I had an issue with my development environment.

**What problems is Kubuntu solving and how is that benefiting you?**

For me Linux was always better for Java environment, more stable than Windows. When I first started with Java, I used Ubuntu, until they left gnome 2 in favor of Unity, I didn't like Unity nor gnome 3. So I started using Kubuntu. I also feel more comfortable and safe surfing the net with a Linux based OS.
But I also use it in personal computer (dual boot with Windows 8), and my own laptop.

  ### 49. One of the best UIs with all benefits of open source

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in E-Learning | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 27, 2019

**What do you like best about Kubuntu?**

I have used Kubuntu for several years and really enjoy its environment. In Kubuntu, you experience a rich GUI along with all benefits of open source community and specially Ubuntu's. While you enjoy getting around with a wonderful graphical interface, you have all benifits of the linux.

**What do you dislike about Kubuntu?**

Some bugs in copying and moving larg number of files which may causes loss of data. It actually rises from the caches on the disk memory, when you think everything is done and the task of moving of the larg amount of files to another drive is finished, it still copying the files on the background which you may are not aware of so you must be very careful.

**Recommendations to others considering Kubuntu:**

Just try it once and you would be in love with Kubuntu.

**What problems is Kubuntu solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Mostly the problem I have experinced, as already stated, is with its GUI in moving larg amount of files.
A very big advantage of Kubuntu, however is its unique graphical and userfriendly experience which it give you.

  ### 50. Free Operating System with very comfortable desk, ideal for anyone.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Rebeca S. | Software Engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 24, 2019

**What do you like best about Kubuntu?**

Kubuntu is a Linux Open Source Operating System, where you can do anything.

It has a very comfortable desktop, easy use and application search in its search bar, its graphic environment in general is beautiful and adaptable to any user dedicated to users accustomed to the Windows desktop, when installing Kubuntu for the first time you will feel comfortable because of its ease and its very similar desk.

Kubuntu is derived from the most famous and easy-to-use Linux Operating System that is Ubuntu, it always has major updates, bug fixes, important programs, constant updates, and virus-free.

Kubuntu is designed for PC of somewhat low resources and dedicated to users who want an easy-to-use desktop, you can work on it as in another Linux distribution to be Open Source.

**What do you dislike about Kubuntu?**

Ubuntu being the main system, Kubuntu sometimes has incompatibility with some programs, generating errors and frustrations in the user, they have to give more importance to this distribution.

**Recommendations to others considering Kubuntu:**

I recommend those users who come from Windows, who want to experiment with Free Software, this is an excellent distribution that adapts very well and is very similar to the Windows desktop, having a very stable distribution, backed by a large community and free of Virus!

**What problems is Kubuntu solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have been able to migrate to Linux completely on many desktop PCs, with this excellent distribution the users adapt very well to the use of the PC since they find it very familiar, free of viruses and expensive antivirus.
