"Krita, my new painting toolbox."

What do you like best?

I really like its brushes. I don´t have to spend hours setting them up. I just choose the one I need and start painting.

I also like its customization. I can set the shortcuts up just as I want. When I used it for the first time I felt not so comfortable until I configured my shortcuts layout and started to paint as I did it with other softwares.

I use both Windows and Linux computers and it is a big deal to be able to use it on both SOs. I´m new to Linux and I´m really surprised with all the great free software available.

What do you dislike?

There´s only one issue I need to mention about layers management. I didn´t find a way to select two or more layers and move them without making a group. That´s something I´ve always done with Photoshop and I got very used to that. I can live with that but it would be grat to have that functionality.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Try it, customize it, experiment. I´m sure you´ll like it.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I am a freelance illustrator and animator. Software licenses are really expensive and finding an incredible tool like Krita is miracle. Maybe a company can afford big prices but when you are on your own, it´s a bit difficult.

"Genial y subestimada aplicación"

What do you like best?

What do you dislike?

Recommendations to others considering the product

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

What do you like best?

What do you dislike?

Recommendations to others considering the product

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

"Awesome photoshop alternative fast, flexible and free."

What do you like best?

What I like about Krita is that it includes layers and management of them, masks and selection tools, transformation tools, a full color palette and some advantages like drawing wizards, a resource manager and a very friendly interface.

What do you dislike?

When Ecuentras a free application with all the advantages that Krita has, it is very difficult to get something you do not like. I like everything about Krita, has been my solution as a photographer and I really have nothing negative to mention.

Recommendations to others considering the product

I recommend it as it is quite good, plus it is free, you lose nothing to try it safe you will not regret.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

It is very beneficial to work with Krita, for me has been very good, this tool has support to Arhiv native Photoshop in format psd so you can spend to use it without fear of losing old jobs, its interface is tremendously familiar and excellent Application to help in my work .

"Good tool to create images"

What do you like best?

Honestly this application fascinated me from the first moment I had contact with her, even being a newbie it is possible to do very nice designs and if you follow the documentation and learn to master completely Krita you will finish making very professional designs.

The best of Krita without a doubt are the brushes as they allow you to give an artistic touch to your images, especially if you have a graphic card to be able to draw by hand. In combination with GIMP you can do anything and without licensing costs.

In summary for my Krita highlights in:

- Multi-platform application with support for Windows and Linux, the main desktop operating systems

- The application is free in its total, which is to be admired because I have not found any other application that offers the same and is free.

- Native support for graphic cards, does not need any additional driver for new cards, it is simply plug and play.

What do you dislike?

- Although the application is a fork of GIMP I have not found the way to increase the size of the icons, which I can do in GIMP.

- When the mouse pointer enters the Krita window it seems unresponsive as if it presented some type of delay or lag.

Recommendations to others considering the product

I recommend the Krita application if you are a user of a digital or graphic card and you are looking for a much more advanced paint application than simple paint. Also if you are a Linux user you are lucky because Krita works natively.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I needed an application to design sketches with professional finishes and that did not need licenses. Although Krita was the only free application I found, it covered my needs completely. The finished sketches are professional and beautiful.

"Kunst schaffen mit Krita"

What do you like best?

What do you dislike?

Recommendations to others considering the product

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

"Great, but underrated application"

What do you like best?

The best of Krita in my opinion after having used it for several years is the hidden potential of this application, that is, at the beginning it is more than likely that your designs are bad but once you learned how to handle the application, you will be surprised with the results so my experience in general is positive.

The application is stable is available several tools for the creation of sketches, logos or anything you may need. A positive aspect is that it has no license cost which surprised me at first because it gave me the impression of being using a very professional tool (except maybe its somewhat old-fashioned interface)

What do you dislike?

A negative aspect of Krita is the graphical interface somewhat outdated, in future versions should correct it and improve this aspect.

Although the application has worked very well and I am very happy with it the support for my graphic tablet gave me some problems because of the drivers, I do not know if it is a problem of Krita or Linux but I solve it thanks to the technical support of Krita so I will write it here, after the help they offered me everything works perfectly for me.

Recommendations to others considering the product

I recommend using Krita if you are a designer, professional or not, and you are looking for a powerful application capable of creating any type of image, besides Krita is a free application unlike many alternatives in this field.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Mainly I am using Krita for the design of sketches and web logos, the result is very positive and I am very content with the application, especially because once you learn to use it your efficiency and speed increases considerably.

"Krita a powerful alternative to photoshop"

What do you like best?

2 years ago I made Krita my professional image editor by default, leaving aside other options that cost a lot of money on licenses. After having learned to handle krita, the results of my work are the same as with the previous software I used but without the extra cost.

I liked Krita that has a great facility to recognize the last generation graphic tablets, working without configuring anything.

Technically it is a software very similar to Gimp (it is a fork) so it inherits many features and a lot of good things (and some bad that I will comment later)

The characteristics that make Krita a great option:

- Stable software

- Great finishes in your works

- No licenses or costs

- Support for last generation graphic cards

- Application that works in Windows and Linux (Both I have tried and they are the same)

- Limited consumption of CPU and RAM resources

- Support for plugins (inherited from GIMP)

- Many brushes and tools for drawing

What do you dislike?

Although in general I love Krita I have seen some things that could be improved in the future, from my point of view.

What is not so good about Krita:

- The graphical interface looks old, it would be fantastic a krita that is visually beautiful

- I have had problems loading some type of file (it is solved exporting to another format)

Recommendations to others considering the product

I really consider you using Krita if you are looking for a powerful tool that does not carry additional licensing costs. People tend to think that because software is free, it will be worse, but I assure you that this is not the case, Krita is a very professional software.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We needed an application that was powerful for the creation of images and that was open source and free, because the cost of licensing the alternatives was too high.

"Krita, An awesome alternative"

What do you like best?

I was using Krita in my company for a long time and it seemed like a very competent drawing tool to be completely free.

The results of all my designs with krita are very good and artistic because once you have learned to handle krita completely it is an incrible tool.Technically the software is very stable, I have never lost a job because of krita, its

interface although it is not its strong point, it is similar to GIMP.

- Works in the three main operating systems (Windows, Linux , MAC)

- Powerful free tool, our logos look great!

- Open source with great support community

- Very fast loading large templates (Especially if you install it in an SSD)

What do you dislike?

What I do not like about Krita or I think they should improve in later versions:

- The interface should be improved, it looks too old

- The icons of the drawing tools should be more descriptive

Recommendations to others considering the product

I recommend that you use Krita if you need a powerful alternative to other design or payment applications, with Krita you do not have to pay any license. Also i recommend that you read the documentation if you have doubts about how to use Krita and learn the shortcuts to design much faster.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

With Krita we create our web designs, especially business logos with very good results. Also thanks to Krita we do not pay for licenses because it's free.

"Great tool for image design"

What do you like best?

We have been working together with Krita and Gimp for a long time in our company and we are very happy with the professional results obtained with this great application. Krita is as good as any other payment application, even superior to many of the ones I've tried. Creating sketches with Krita is not an easy task because it has a very high learning curve but thanks to the documentation and to the community you can learn to develop in a few days, then the results are impressive.

The best thing about this application is:

- In the office, everyone chooses their favorite OS, so using Krita is not a problem because it is multiplatform and supports Windows and Linux

- Support for images created in formats of other applications that are not Krita, for example .PSD of photoshop.

- Krita is very stable, with other applications when opening large templates, or it could result in a crash of the application

What do you dislike?

Some older graphics tablets can cause problems if you do not use certain drivers under Linux, Windows is totally fine. Also they can improve the icon theme to look more descriptive.

Recommendations to others considering the product

I recommend Krita if you are looking for a free and professional alternative to create your sketches. I assure you that the sketches of Krita's are very professional.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We have used many image design applications over several years and none of us ended up being convinced because they always had some defect, so we stayed until we found Krita that had all the virtues of other applications and was free.

"Creating art with Krita"

What do you like best?

Krita is a fork of gimp created to design sketches, paintings or artistic logos for companies or web design as we use it in the company.

The application of course is completely free and open source in addition to multi platform (Windows, Linux and Mac). Our main use of krita is the creation of logos and funds in the web pages created by our team.

About krita:

- The application is very stable in its latest versions

- The final finishes are incredible once you learn to use the application correctly

- A lot of documentation on how to do all kinds of things with krita available on the internet

- The application supports a large number of formats such as xcf, psd or png

- Large amount of brushes to choose and use in your designs

- The application loads very fast unlike other applications of the same type, Krita is very light and does not consume much CPU or RAM

What do you dislike?

The interface of the application is a little outdated, should update a little and add more descriptive icons. They could also add some scripts by default.

Recommendations to others considering the product

If you want to create any type of design with artistic and professional finishes then choose Krita and you will not be disappointed. Krita is also free and has a large community behind.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We needed an application to create logos something more advanced than gimp and Krita gave it to us, the finishes are very artistic.

"If you are an artist, Krita is for you."

What do you like best?

I work remotely for my company making sketches for web design, I have used krita for a long time and I am very satisfied with the results I have obtained in all this time.

Krita is very powerful once you learn to use it with all your keyboard shortcuts you increase the speed enormously. Technically Krita has improved a lot compared to previous versions and now it is a very stable, fast and reliable application.

We liked Krita which is a free and open source application with a lot of documentation available on the internet, so although the learning curve is high, you can learn to do simple and beautiful things in a short time. It also supports third-party plugins.

What do you dislike?

The previous versions of krita were a little unstable but this has been solved, the only negative aspect nowadays is that its interface, specifically the icons are not very descriptive.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Krita is one of the few drawing tools that is offered for free, if you need to save costs, Krita is your best ally. I recommend you to be patient because the process of learning in krita is not fast but if you use the documentation it will not be difficult

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I needed a free tool that could be executed in different operating systems, which was also stable and powerful in the drawing. In Krita we have found everything we were looking for, so our needs are covered.

"Bugs make it more trouble than it's worth"

What do you like best?

Krita has a good selection of tools, and is fairly straightforward to use.

What do you dislike?

I originally installed this to do illustration with, but a host of random bugs have made the work so difficult and frustrating that I have decided to switch to using photoshop instead. Mainly, it has a tendency to crash and freeze the screen, forcing me to close the application and somehow losing all autosaves of the file at the same time. I've probably lost at least fifteen hours of work at this point from whatever bug this is, and I have tried and tried with no avail to fix it, but I've put up with it since I only have experience with krita and switching to something new would mean relearning everything. I am now switching though since it's gotten bad enough that the price is worth paying.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Use photoshop or Sai instead

"Bit of a learning curve, but a fun and powerful program."

What do you like best?

Brush Stabilizer.... without it I could not create anything using this program for my company. The UI is very easy to use once you learn where and how everything is. Options.... I LOVE options! On a personal note I really like the comic templates.

What do you dislike?

I have had the program crash on me a few times, however this is due to the computers at work i'm sure. I wish there was a pressure sensitivity support. I use the swiftpoint Z mouse and this feature would be beyond perfect for me.

Recommendations to others considering the product

worth the learning curve, because there is so many cool things you can do. I'm no artist, however this program makes me look like one :D

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We use it for graphics and animations for other programs such as power point. I make comics when no one is looking ;P

"Krita has been my co-worker for a long time, and now it's more renewed, it's excellent."

What do you like best?

In all operating systems you can use the two versions of Krita, 3 and 4 without having to uninstall one for the other. This is an excellent tool that helps me in my work as a graphic designer, there are many things that I like, You can assign ten keyboard shortcuts to ten specific brushes, you can simply click on the desired brush or drag it to one of the available spaces. With the panel of quick adjustments, you can quickly change the size, opacity and flow of the brushes, with a series of predefined values.

What do you dislike?

krita has everything I need, it is also free, I use it online and every day they have more functions that improve my work, there is nothing that I dislike about this excellent tool.

Recommendations to others considering the product

very good option, do not stay without trying it. you really get better results than with more expensive applications. is created by experts who seek to satisfy our needs, as graphic designers.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

This is an excellent application that helps me to do all kinds of work, now with all its improvements I get a better finish in each design that I create, without krita I could not do all the wonders that I do to my clients and they would not have such good references. this appliccation is very good.

"Simply Amazing."

What do you like best?

Frankly the brush motor is very successful. you can also export gimp and photoshop brushes from the outside. There is also a paid version of the Krita gemini on steam. it also supports the tablet interface and allows you to draw from the tablet to the pc with as much as I understand. the macro drawings and you know the load is super something I think. in addition to ready-made templates for comic book drawings. pattern is very easy to do. It's fun to make patterns. also support symmetrical drawing. krita is not free alternative to any drawing program according to me. it would be unfair to criticize it.

What do you dislike?

Even with a good computer it is surprisingly slow for some work.

Recommendations to others considering the product

If you are using or planning to use a graphical tablet on linux, the krita will be a good friend.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

krita free and open source drawing program. I use Krita for macro drawings and comic book drawings or painting.

"Krita: the reference for digital painting"

What do you like best?

There are many advantages in Krita, but I mainly love it because:

- It is free, open and quick. This characteristic is essential when you compare it with ArtRage.

- It provides some possibilities that other programs (like Photoshop do not). Yes, I know that Photoshop is designed for digital photography edition. Instead, I like the Krita's ability to create digital artwork using a vast set of brushes with many advanced options (pressure, tilt, pressure, rotation...9 engines in total)

- I like use Krita with a tablet, instead of Photoshop or Gimp which I always use with a mouse.

What do you dislike?

There are few disadvantages I can find in Krita:

- Perhaps, I would like that Krita incorporates deeper digital tablet support.

- Another problem is that does not support support SVG 2 (for example, mesh gradients)

Recommendations to others considering the product

If you are considering to becoming a digital artist or you are already an artist but you are searching for a free and almost professional tool for your desings, Krita is your solution, better than Paint.net, Gimp, Photoshop or Gravit, in my opinion, for artistic developments.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Overall, Krita is a helpful tool for all those who are trying to desing digital art and create animations, but I use it to create backgrounds, hand-painted cover pages, title pages and drawings for e-learning courses.

"Painting is beautiful with krita!"

What do you like best?

We really like the power of krita, we use it to create big canvas and we printed them to use it in different promotions and publicity. Krita it's also a stability rock you would never will see crashing o hanging.

Another good thing about krita is that it barely consume resources from your computer, i've never saw it above 1 gigabyte of ram.

More positive things about krita:

- Huge collection of brushers

- Support for RAW, PNG, JPEG, BMP and PSD formats

- it is a fork from gimp

- By using it you are supporting a community of people that works just for free

- We can create professional design and images without paying a single dollar!

- Open source

- Multi platform (Linux, Windows and Mac are supported)

What do you dislike?

Since it is a fork from gimp the look and feel from krita is clearly outdated. It is a bit weird that the create such a nice program that can product awesome design and the app itself looks so old.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Check the online tutorials if you need! You can also can ask the community for help, there is a lot of people willing to help you!

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We do not have to use expensive programs anymore to design for our customers and we benefit from it saving money not just from using krita but thanks to it we are no longer forced to use Windows.

"Constant performance issues."

What do you like best?

Krita has the minimum requirements I want in a drawing software: brush smoothing, advanced brush customization and the ability to flip and mirror an drawing quickly.

What do you dislike?

Sadly, Krita fails in the performance requirement, slowdowns and sharp corners are constantly when doing fast strokes and all those bugs happened in the best conditions for a program to run. I could say my computer is the problem, but other drawing programs run perfectly even when I have multiple programs opened, such as music player and browser.

Recommendations to others considering the product

I understand Krita is open-source and bugs are bound to happen, but for now, it's not worth investing time.

"For lovers of painting, we have a good digital option !!!"

What do you like best?

It is free software and with enough potential to create quality images.

Krita has it all, it has allowed me to work in layers, apply filters, use brushes and use colors.

I really like that it supports different formats such as RAW, PSD, PNG, JPEG and BMP, it is also possible to export the files in a large number of formats.

Krita has brushes for all tastes, so that our paintings are amazing

What do you dislike?

The only important tools that Krita does not have is Clone with perspective

Recommendations to others considering the product

I recommend it to everyone. Krita is a powerful tool for editing and designing images, it's free and with enough potential to create quality images.

It has an easy-to-use interface, a variety of brushes, allows easy color management and has a variety of filters and effects.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I use Krita mostly in my free time to paint and I have also used it in my work to edit or retouch some images. I always look for different editors and design software and I have added Krita to my favorites list because it is very practical and complete.

"One of the best digital painting software, all for free"

What do you like best?

It would be easy to say "its price", since it's free and open-source, but the truth is that Krita's strongest point is that it's actually a great, great tool for digital painting: tt's nothing short of awesome.

Some would name Photoshop, Procreate, Clip studio paint and PaintTool SAI, but I stick with Krita, plus it's got a big and colorful community to share ideas, brushes and whatnot.

Plus, it's multi-platform, so you can rock on with you Linux distro.

What do you dislike?

At the moment, nothing. Krita has a LOT of realistic brushes, layers, vector shapes, the ability to rotate and mirror the canvas to spot errors... There really is nothing to dislike, IMHO.

Recommendations to others considering the product

It's a great, multi-platform, open-source, free digital painting program, and it's been getting better every year. It won't let you down anytime soon.

"Krita has functions rivaling Adobe Photoshop, with a free price tag"

What do you like best?

Krita has many functions that you can also find in Photoshop (a much more expensive program). One of which is gradients, you're fully able to select the angle and location of the gradient. Gradients are a very helpful tool that aren't found in most other full-price programs like ProCreate. There is a large variety of brush tools that once you get the hang of, can product excellent sketches and finished pieces. There is a full color wheel and sizes and opacity settings are also available.

What do you dislike?

During my first few uses of Krita, there was an extreme lag that made the product unusable at first. After researching online, I found that going into the settings, then configure krita, and then un-checking the pre-checked box labeled "OpenGL," the program should fix the lag. This was almost a deal-breaker for me, but I'm glad there's a solution. The layout can be overwhelming at first, especially with how many different brush settings there are.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Krita is an excellent tool for artists who need to save money but still need a way to color and design. Make sure you research the lag program and fix it so you can enjoy this program!

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Because Krita is free and accessible to anyone and everyone, this makes collaborative work very easy. Whether its another designer I'm working with from my client or the client adding ideas to the piece directly, another person can easily build upon what I've created using Krita themselves, after I share the Krita work in progress file.

"Best Open-source Artist tool"

What do you like best?

What I like the most is that it isn't a general purpose software. It is an software for artist. Made it for artist.

The default templates set is an example of that. it hast comic and textures templates and others artistic templates. The default brushes settings is enough for create stunning art, you don't need expend a lot of hours, sinking for custom brushes, but you can customize anyway.

It has a color wheel! Photoshop, what are you waiting for? I don't undestand why this tool is not developed in all artist softwares. And at last, an integrated reference panel is a great plus.

What do you dislike?

Like others art software, Krita has a not user friendly layers tool and can't reach the unbeatable photoshop layers management.

The interface can be improved. This is a general lag of open-source.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

As an open-source software, they listen the communitiy and apply his demand of every release of the product. In a low-budget project, Krita is a perfect suit.

"Powerful and Free"

What do you like best?

- Krita is free. This lets you try it with no demo limitations or fear of having to spend money on software that you may not like

- Krita is powerful and offers many of the features of Photoshop

- Krita has many resources. Despite being free, newbies have access to users guides and online communities to help learn and master the software

- Linux, Mac, and Windows support

What do you dislike?

- The UI of the software is certainly not as aesthetically pleasing as that of Photoshop (which is essentially the gold standard for image editors

- For something free, and as powerful as Krita, there is not much negative to say for most users who need an advanced image editor

Recommendations to others considering the product

If you've previously used a demo of Photoshop, or used GIMP, give this a try. It is free and robust so there's isn't much to lose. Like all image editors with many features, Krita can be intimidating. Spend some time going through the menus of the app, testing out features and effects, and don't forget to visit their website which links you to their many learning resources.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I mostly use Krita to make minor adjustments to images such as precise rotating, resizing, and color changes, and blurring out sensitive information for screenshots. Performing these tasks in Krita is really fast so I can work through these images quickly. With this tool, I don't need Photoshop.

"Finally a Photoshop Replacer for Painting!"

What do you like best?

All the likeness compared to photoshop, huge amount of features and very fast. Much Faster tha photoshop for painting. It´s also Free and a very good documentation for starters.

Another Huge feature is the ability to use .PSD file format, so you can still maintain total flexibility with other people´s work.

What do you dislike?

So far I didn´t see any cons on using this software, People used to photoshop may need to learn all the different shortcuts, but I think it´s part of any new software that you propose yourself to learn.

Recommendations to others considering the product

If you are a 2d or 3d artist on games industry, I higly recommend this softwarem you can even still use .PSD formats inside without flattening or losing any work. It´s just Great!

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I´m so used to photoshop for painting concept arts and textures for 3d games that I couldn´t get used to any other software for this sole purpose, With krita I can finally replace Photoshop not only because it´s a free software, but also because its simply better!

Another great thing is speed, my equipment is very low spec and old, but this software is still very fast

"Fully featured Digital Painting Software for free"

What do you like best?

The brush engine is pretty amazing. You have absolute control over your brushes allowing you to create effects and strokes really easy and fast. The interface, although a bit dated in its looks, is pretty well structured with docks that you can move around to create your own workspace. This is something that is very reminiscent of Photoshop and it's a welcome feature since it facilitates the transition from one software to the other. Regarding painting features, it has all you could need: canvas rotation, perspective grids, rulers, several transformation options. Everything.

What do you dislike?

As stated before, the interface is a little dated. Some of the UI icons are plain ugly and this makes the workscape look "old". Also, some of the options and shortcuts are very different from other apps, making the learning curve a little more steep than necessary, but it not that big of an issue and eventually you'll get used to it. The interface can be customized to mitigate this specific issue and improve your workflow.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I've been using this software on my everyday work as a Digital Illustrator and I can recommend it to anyone, professional and amateur, who wants a complete, fully featured tool to work with. And, since it is open source software it's totally free. If you want, you can always donate some money to the development team to show some appreciation or you can support development by buying training DVD's filled with hours of content and bonus materials made by professional artists.

"Great open-source software for digital painting"

What do you like best?

I started to use Krita for its accesibility (it's free and easy to download) and good performance. It's a very useful software for traditional looking digital painting. The blending works really well and it gives a lot of creative options. From my experience, it's a great alternative to Corel Painter, that it's usually slower.

I find really useful the pressure and smoothing options for the brushes as it makes more comfortable to work with a graphic tablet resembling traditional techniques. Also even though I don't particularly use it the mirror mode is a great creative tool.

What do you dislike?

Since I've had it updated to the last version it often gets a little bit stuck when rotating the canvas, creating strange mosaic effects. It (obviously) starts to get slower with large files but anyway it has a better perfomanca than other digital painting softwares.

Apart from that my problems are not usually the software's fault. For example, I could use more variety of brushes, but I think they can be installed somehow.

Recommendations to others considering the product

If you enjoy digital painting: just give it a try! It's a very satisfying experience.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I use Krita for concept art and illustration when I am looking for a more traditional look. It easily resembles traditional painting and gives a unique touch. It's very instintive and great middle point between paint and a graphic tablet.

"Designed with the artist in mind"

What do you like best?

Before Krita, I worked mostly with vector graphics for any art I needed done, mainly because I felt unsatisfied with the options I had: Photoshop didn't felt intuitive enough for me, it had what I needed, but using it felt awkward; GIMP is mainly suited for photographic manipulation, with digital illustrations and paintings being just "something else" it can do; and lastly, Corel Painter is heavy, but it was nice.

And then I stumbled upon Krita, version 2.8 at the moment. I'm always looking for open source alternatives to use, and Krita felt easy to adapt to, with a nicely configurable interface and intuitive way of doing things, and I learned to use it quickly. The program, aside from being open-source (and free), is incredibly lightweight, has everything I need to draw and paint from scratch, has a lot of resources available from other artists, and the community around it (programmers, designers and users) is healthy and helpful to anyone (and anyone can contribute too). I've been using Krita since then and it's my "weapon of choice" for any illustration I need done.

What do you dislike?

There are a lot of things that are coming with versions 3.0 and 3.1 that aren't ready yet, but I want them badly. Some of these include brushes that doesn't lag when too big (big as in thousands of pixels wide), animation tools, new filters, new layer features, more compatibility with some plugins, specially the incredibly versatile G'MIC, and other features. But for my main work there's nothing lacking with the program, as far as I see.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Give it a nice good try, and check the community for help, some tutorials and the like. Artists like David Revoy, Vasco Basque and Tyson Tan are among the users, and people are helpful to each other.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I use Krita for any kind of digital drawing or painting, and also for comic creation. It comes with great templates and tools for comic artists, enough that it's not needed to use other tool alongside it.

I could finally move from vector graphics, and that made my work feel more natural, and things get done in less time because of that. It feels more comfortable than traditional drawing for a lot of things nowadays as well.

"Best Digital Painting Software I Have Used."

What do you like best?

Krita is the most advanced and complete paiting open source software I have seen.

It's tools quality and it's speed make you think Karita is a paid, strong developed software as Photoshop or CorelDraw is, but is free to use and open source.

If you are a digital painter, you can drop the other software you use and stop paying for it. This is your new main tool.

What do you dislike?

As many open source projects, it's developing speed is not as good as other kind of software.

Now Krita has lauched crowd funding campaigns and they have been a big success, so you can expect this issue to chance at any moment.

Recommendations to others considering the product

If you have already used any other software for digital painting, you could have some problems getting used to Krita´s tools, but with little practice you will feel at home pretty fast. Practice is probably the most important thing in the learning process.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Texture paiting for 3D models. Krita has many tools, brushes and dynamics to work with that makes the process much easier and natural.

"Best free art program I've ever used!"

What do you like best?

This program has saved my ass countless times with the autosave feature. I literally just finished drawing a realism peacock on it and excitedly unplugged my laptop so I could show it to my mom and right as I did it, my laptop CRASHED. I frantically turned it back on, searched through my folder to see if I could find any hint of an autosave file and couldn't see one. Opened Krita in defeat about to start again, opened the file I started for it, AND IT ASKED IF I WANTED TO OPEN THE AUTOSAVE FILE! HALLELUJAH! God stepped down from the heavens and handed me a small loan of a million dollars! All that was missing was my signature but that was an easy fix. If I could rate Krita 10 out of 5 stars, I absolutely would.

What do you dislike?

Sometimes finding the separate brush modes can be a little tricky, but it's a small price to pay.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Like I said before, the autosave feature is great. Not to mention, there are several different brush and texture packs that you can download and set into your Krita program. I've downloaded the watercolor brush set and absolutely love it. It's very fun and easy to use.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

All I'm really doing is creating art and animations with this program. I can't really see what else it would be that useful for.

"Krita Review from a Newbie Perspective"

What do you like best?

The variety of brush engines and the built in smoothing algorithm

What do you dislike?

Krita is such a beast that it may overwhelm a newcomer, especially a first time and aspiring digital artist like me. But if you ever use PaintTool SAI, the interface is not too different and you'll master it within minutes.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Krita is still in active development. As a free and open source software, you also has a right to make improvements to Krita. Whether by submitting feature requests, doing the dirty laundry by submitting codes, support financially by pledging on Kick Starter, or even just making custom brushes and artworks using Krita.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

I usually create some sketches in Krita before I export it to GIMP and then export it to Inkscape. Long workflow, indeed. But it worths the journey because Krita can make clean line art for vector arts.
