## Koha Reviews
  ### 1. A Good Library Management System, But Lacks Interface Design

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Dennis Marco G. | Librarian, High School Learning Resource Center (HS LRC), Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 24, 2020

**What do you like best about Koha?**

Koha has a large community of users who shares best-practices, offers solutions to technical problems, and includes software updates on a periodic basis. These are all available through the Koha.org site. In the Philippines, there are third-party companies (such as OnStrike Solutions) who offer technical assistance about the use and upgrade of Koha software. When I was working in World Citi Colleges, we pay PhP350,000 (USD 7,100) annually for their service.

**What do you dislike about Koha?**

The Koha interface is not user-friendly compared to other library management systems such as Destiny Library Manager (Follett). Also, cataloging of library resources takes time because you need to be familiar with MARC records.

**What problems is Koha solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We used Koha Library Management System to perform our library tasks such as cataloging, circulation, and management of library resources.

  ### 2. Koha Review For Librarians

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Laurel J. | Library Assistant, Higher Education, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 07, 2018

**What do you like best about Koha?**

It's for the most part pretty easy to understand. I like that when you're looking up a book, you can put in a lot of details about it beyond the author and the title. You can put in the publication date, what it's about, the ISBN, keywords of what it's about, copywrite info etc. It's a very thorough search engine.

**What do you dislike about Koha?**

Sometimes the system gets confused and it shows me titles that don't have any relation whatsoever to what I was trying to search. Maybe it's in the keywords, but the system highlights specific words that are only a small fraction, like a letter, of what I typed in the search bar. It can sometimes make it hard to find what you are searching for

**Recommendations to others considering Koha:**

Koha is fast and easy and great for students to use. As long as they understand how libraries work it shouldn't be a problem

**What problems is Koha solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use it for the university library I work for. We upgraded to it from Webster a few years back, and it's such an improvement. Everything is more clear and organized, and it's easy to understand. You don't have to be a skilled user to understand it.

  ### 3. Library Usage

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Museums and Institutions | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 31, 2018

**What do you like best about Koha?**

The program performs all the necessary functions needed for a library. It sets good parameters for use. For example, a student employee has restrictions on his/her use, which prevents possible mistakes.

**What do you dislike about Koha?**

The interface could be more user friendly. The program's text is really small and you have to pay careful attention to special notes and notices.

**Recommendations to others considering Koha:**

Not for those with poor eyesight.

**What problems is Koha solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It gets the job done. It helps us keep track of our books and patrons.

  ### 4. Versitile but glitchy

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Libraries | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 16, 2017

**What do you like best about Koha?**

The item searching works better then other systems that I have worked with including ALEPH. I also like the ability to add messages to patron accounts. I also like the multiple notification settings. Since most everything is hyperlinked it makes the system very easy to navigate. Also cataloging is pretty simple in this system.

**What do you dislike about Koha?**

System has issues when it comes to consortiums. Patron searching does not work as well as other systems. The fact that the system is so customizable is both a blessing and a curse. There is a lot that can be done in way of reports and settings, but it can be a bit overwhelming at times.

**Recommendations to others considering Koha:**

Highly customizable. A good option if you have someone who is into programming on staff, but you can get by with out it if your are hosted.

**What problems is Koha solving and how is that benefiting you?**

This is an ILS for a library. It is much more user friendly than our previous system. It has simplified our workflow and we hope that it will improve more as we continue to use the product. The notification features are a big benefit that our patrons greatly appreciate.
