We can then act if we see the message hit multiple recipients. Integration with VirusTotal has been helpful to quickly identify certain types of threats. This has improved my time to focus on real issues, attacks or clean emails falsely flagged. **What do you dislike about KnowBe4 PhishER/PhishER Plus?** PhishER can be slightly difficult to configure without much experience with YARA rules. When I configured it I would have prefered more tips, training and practice rules to review before I configured my rules. **What problems is KnowBe4 PhishER/PhishER Plus solving and how is that benefiting you?** Before PhishER, the department responded to about 10% clean emails with no understanding what the customer impact was. These emails had unexpected PDF scans from customers or were vendors sending emails that looked odd. Now we respond to 100% of customer impacting clean emails and about 60% of clean emails. All threats are identified, investigated and responded to quickly with PhishRip. ### 18. PhishFLIP's ability to create a testing opportunity out of what was once a genuine threat is also valuable, as it creates a "real world" training experience. Integration with VirusTotal allows automated scanning of links or attachments which speeds up response time **What do you dislike about KnowBe4 PhishER/PhishER Plus?** There is some room for improvement in the automation of resolving reported emails. Setting up rules is not particularly intuitive and, having not seen a volume to justify it, I have not spent the time to figure it out. Additionally, the query process for PhishRIP feels unpolished as it's not always easy to narrow down requirements. Also, if the reported email comes via a chain of "Is this safe?" emails being passed around, the original contents (sender, recipient, etc.) can become lost in the traffic and queries can become impossible to create effectively. The inherent flaw with the PhishER approach is that it does little to mitigate ongoing attacks. This is in line with KnowBe4's approach to CyberSecurity in general which emphasizes the "human side" of cybersecurity, but can be frustrating when you're being bombarded by a specific attacker who is hoping his persistence will pay off and PhishER offers no way to shut down specific users, domans, IP's etc. All of that needs to be done at the firewall or ESA level. **Recommendations to others considering KnowBe4 PhishER/PhishER Plus:** As we are now looking at replacing our end-of-life ESA, we are discovering that there are other companies that can offer more holistic packages that include the hardware, the training, and the software. PhishER was something we added on as part of our need to implement training and so, at the time, working with KnowBe4 made a great deal of sense. However, now that we are looking at replacing our ESA I would have preferred to opt for a total-solution package. This is not because I am in anyway dissatisfied with KnowBe4 or their PhishER product, but because I dislike having to manage multiple tools and will always opt for more complete integration in a centralized package where I can. If you're in need of a "total package" hardware, software, and training oriented security solution, there are, I think, better options - albeit far more expensive ones. But if you're looking for something to add onto your existing security measures, then KnowBe4 is an effective and affordable option. **What problems is KnowBe4 PhishER/PhishER Plus solving and how is that benefiting you?** Multiple instances of widespread attacks have been shut down, quickly and efficiently. This reduces the time spent on addressing the attack and minimizes vulnerability. ### 19. This has really been a good way to help our employees combat phishing by having an actual button right in Outlook they can click whenever they suspect something with a no harm no foul mindset since if they do send you a clean/normal email you can send it right back to them with a custom email message as well. **What do you dislike about KnowBe4 PhishER/PhishER Plus?** The only thing I dislike about it is there are a ton of features, automation, rules, etc to set up. It is one of my favorite features since it is very easy to set up and an easy way to get your users to pay attention and report possible phishing and threat emails when they never did before. They would always delete them or fall for them and now using this was very eye-opening to how many spam/threat emails we receive daily. ### 26. The emails can be configured to reply to the reporter and can trigger based on variables. **What do you dislike about KnowBe4 PhishER/PhishER Plus?** The biggest downside for PhishER is that the tool is being developed for cloud-based mail and less for on-premise mail services. Some businesses choose to be on premise for various reasons and finding tools that cater to those businesses seems to be on a decline. I would very much appreciate useful tools such as PhishRIP were available for on-premise mail services but more specifically, exchange. **What problems is KnowBe4 PhishER/PhishER Plus solving and how is that benefiting you?** Before PhishER, we would have employees deal with individual emails which would take a lot of time. I receive an email alert so I can review the situation, and either delete the emails or restore them with 2 clicks. My users like knowing that their reporting of phishing emails is helping the company by reducing risk.
