It integrates with most common email platforms, and gives the end user a button to click to report a suspicious email. It splits out the headers so they are easy to find and review, automatically scans attachments, and in most cases will automatically categorize submitted emails for you. Once it makes the determination that the email is malicious, it will automatically pull matching emails from other inboxes in your organization. It has saved us multiple times. **What do you dislike about KnowBe4 PhishER/PhishER Plus?** The only real pain point we have had with the product, is getting users to click the Phish Alert Button, rather than forwarding the email to our helpdesk account. That isn't a fault of the platform, but a user training issue. It does have a limitation where if the user has replied to the email or forwarded it before clicking the button, it doesn't give you the information you need from the original email, but submits the most recent email in the thread. I'm not sure if that is able to be fixed. If it can't make a solid determination with regard to the validity of an email, it will send an alert so it can be manually reviewed. It does not offer the robust capabilities found elsewhere in the KnowBe4 ecosystem, particularly when compared to KSAT. The interface feels unpolished, and the platform frequently struggles to process requests, often running slowly and encountering errors more often than is acceptable for a security product. Automation capabilities are minimal. Beyond basic keyword-based tagging, there is very little available to meaningfully streamline workflows or reduce manual effort. Reporting is another major weakness—built-in reports provide limited actionable insight and pale in comparison to the comprehensive reporting available in KSAT. My experience with PhishER support has been particularly disappointing. Issues are routinely minimized or described as “expected behavior,” even when the platform becomes difficult or impossible to use. It is apparent that frontline support agents lack sufficient training and escalation support from senior staff and the development team. If you are considering PhishER because you have been impressed with KnowBe4’s KSAT product, be aware that the same level of polish, investment, and maturity has not been applied here. We have several administrators and we all tend to process the PhishER messages a little differently. For example, I can create rules that look for Spam keywords and automatically send a response thanking our users for their due diligence and give them some advice on reducing spam emails in the future. Additionally, if there are emails reported that PhishER has defined as a threat, or upon review I have decided is a threat, I am able to query our entire Outlook system and find messages that match the criteria, then pull and quarantine these messages. **What do you dislike about KnowBe4 PhishER/PhishER Plus?** As bad actors continue to evolve, sometimes they are able to send to users, and the receiver's email is not located in the header. Sometimes this prevents the query from working as expected to remove these emails/threats from other users' inboxes. **What problems is KnowBe4 PhishER/PhishER Plus solving and how is that benefiting you?** PhishER gives us a second and third line of defense against potential threat emails. Being able to easily find and delete or quarantine messages from all of my users inbox is an amazing feature. Lately I have seen multiple instances where a "Global" PhishRIP was started and pulled a number of emails from my users, potentially saving us from a phishing incident. I have used the customer support a couple of times and they have been knowledgeable and helpful every time. **What do you dislike about KnowBe4 PhishER/PhishER Plus?** It's a bit frustrating that you have to first log into the KB4 training portal before being able to access the Phisher Plus interface. (This looks like it is getting fixed soon in the new unified login process.) I wish that I would be able to simply enter an email address to initiate a PhishRIP, instead of having to wait for a user to send in a malicious email. **What problems is KnowBe4 PhishER/PhishER Plus solving and how is that benefiting you?** PhishER+ allows me to have users submit emails for review directly into a single interface where I can look at them and act accordingly. Further, having the crowdsourced list of known bad URLs and senders is a powerful feature. The ability for us to create rules and automate certain actions based on the rules makes reviewing the reported emails much easier for our team. **What do you dislike about KnowBe4 PhishER/PhishER Plus?** What I dislike about PhishER is that it doesnt have the ability to automatically quarantine a confirmed phishing email. In this use case where a phishing campaign is sent out to users and I find it on phishER and phishRIP all the emails and quarantine them, if the same email is sent again later, it does not automatically quarantine it based on past actions to that email. Another thing is that when a phishing campaign is sent to our users and they all report it, it shows that one email reported by so many multiple users - it would be nice if the system could detect that all the reported emails were part of the same campaign and maybe just have the campaign in the inbox where we could click it to see all the reported emails. Both dislikes are fairly minor but just things that could improve the experience of the admins who review the emails. **What problems is KnowBe4 PhishER/PhishER Plus solving and how is that benefiting you?** We use PhishER as our primary phish reporting solution for our users. PhishER and its machine learning helps our team by categorizing spam and threat emails fairly accurately. We can configure exactly how we want and trust that it will just work. In the rare event that we actually need to sign into the dashboard to investigate something, they retain everything. We can even release a copy of any emails filtered if need be. **What do you dislike about KnowBe4 PhishER/PhishER Plus?** Learning to configure it the way we want is a bit time consuming. They have done an amazing job to make it as easy as possible, but we have still misconfigured it more than once. I have no recommendations on how to make it better because it is already as good as I can think to make it, but there is definitely a learning curve. **What problems is KnowBe4 PhishER/PhishER Plus solving and how is that benefiting you?** We have a small IT team within our agency. Putting eyes on something is often a luxury as we're such a small team. Giving our users a way to notify us when they spot something suspicious and allowing a machine learning system to assess the situation before alerting the IT folks to put eyes on it is priceless. Most of the time, PhishER figures out that the suspicious emails are either harmless or spam and the user gets their automated kickback thanking them for doing the right thing. It gives them a real sense that they're helping, and we never had to even look at it. To be completely honest, we configured the system when we bought it and almost never signed into it again. An email plugin called Phish Alert is installed on the end users' email system, allowing them to report all suspicious emails by clicking on it. The PhishML feature auto-scans the reported emails by users and helps the IT Security team by informing them about the email if it is a phishing email, a spam email, or a clean email because the PhishML tags every reported email with a tag. The PhishRip feature helps the IT security team by giving them the option to create a query on reported email, and then they can take action to quarantine all the relevant emails from all the end user systems. We started off looking into their product for our business in order to keep our employees up to date on protecting us and themselves from phishing attacks. Their product makes it quite easy (after the initial setup) to create and schedule phishing tests. Along with the phishing training we were not expecting, but happily surprised, that their platform will also handle standard online training formats, like SCORM. I was able to convert some PowerPoint files via another bit of software and upload those to KnowBe4, and now some of out yearly training items (Sexual Harassments training, CPNI training and the like) no longer need to be meetings or waste paper. A surprising added benefit! **What do you dislike about KnowBe4 PhishER/PhishER Plus?** The initial setup, for us, took quite a bit of doing, though that may be more of the non-standard email setup our business has. Rather, it begins with my users—the individuals on the front lines. The emphasis on 'harnessing human observation' is a major advantage. Sophisticated attacks often slip past even the most advanced filters, but gathering insights from a trained global community provides a level of intelligence that's hard to surpass. **What do you dislike about KnowBe4 PhishER/PhishER Plus?** The integration and setup process is definitely complicated; I really wish it were much simpler. There are still a significant number of false positives, and accuracy issues persist. At times, the Phish Alert Button fails to function as expected. **What problems is KnowBe4 PhishER/PhishER Plus solving and how is that benefiting you?** The automated removal of threats and spam at the organizational level is truly impressive. ### 50. We are using the PhishER Plus and it's great for building more realistic scenarios.
