If you're used to Pages or Numbers, it followed the same template. Things are pretty straightforward. We use this for our company slideshow. Easy to overlay lots of graphics. **What do you dislike about Keynote?** The transitions can be a bit tricky to get how you want. You need to know if something is appearing, moving mid-slide, or exiting the screen. Photoshop couldn't easily create motion graphics, not could I easily create transitions between displays. Powerpoint, on the other hand, could create templates and quickly input the text, but it all looked boring and drab. And then I realized I had Keynote on my Macbook. It was not something I had used and I had expected it was like a simpler version of Powerpoint, but the few presentations I had seen before were crisp and clean. I ended up realizing that I could create presentations, export them as static images for the display, or even as a series of movies that could be used within my signage. Not only for transitions, but adding dramatic elements to the signage that was often subtle, but kept attention to it. Compared to Powerpoint, it was elegant...Powerpoint felt like a brutal hammer that got the job done, but was created by people with absolutely no artistic value. There are other tools out there that can do this, but I am not an artist. Nor am I in this world. I prefer to use the quickest application available that gives me the cleanest results. And this was it. Since then, I have transitioned to ONLY using Keynote for any presentation, even if I have to eventually export it to Powerpoint format. It will lose a little in the translation, but still quicker to get the same results than using Microsoft's tools. **What do you dislike about Keynote?** The web collaboration is the only way to collaborate with someone on another operating system. It is still in beta years later. It works, but barely. Some of the more advanced features are hidden behind panes and popups and this makes it difficult at times to get great results. **Recommendations to others considering Keynote:** If you have a Mac, you should check it out. It is free on most new machines. I've been working as a graphic designer for 4+ years and am proficient in most design tools, but Keynote is still my go-to software for a quick design hack. I paid for mine when I bought it I think it comes complementary now. This is something that I don't like. The left sidebar and ease of use of keynote to design and use the outline section at the same time as designing is what really creates a positive user experience. The default for the templates and slides creates such a large text box that it makes maneuvering around the slide difficult at times. I serve within a local church where I help both people in the office and people within our body communicate their vision and events more clearly to those in their circles. The "problems" I'm solving is how to get the important messages these people have to the audience who needs it. With Keynote, I help people in my office communicate their message more clearly. Using Keynote, they have found an easier alternative compared to PowerPoint that helps them more easily create attractive presentations more quickly. Doing this, it saves them time and gives them the ability to catch people's interest and have more time to invest into people ultimately. It's not PowerPoint. After many years of struggling with PPT, I was thrilled when Apple came out with their superior, native version. The user interface is pretty simple - although the most recent upgrade (7.0) required a learning curve before I could find everything again. But that aside, it's superior in just about every way to PPT. The templates are more sophisticated, it's way easier to format slides, and there are many more ways to jazz up presentations (slide transitions, builds, animations, etc.). In general, it's very easy to make a slide deck that looks professional without being cheesy. If you use Apple products, you'll be able to find your way around this software pretty easily. **What do you dislike about Keynote?** Still in the minority - most of our clients use PPT so we have to convert decks to PPT once in a while, but more often we just PDF everything. It can be difficult to import text or objects from MS Word or PPT. It can be cumbersome to do a global font replacement. **Recommendations to others considering Keynote:** If you're already a Mac user and haven't tried Keynote, you owe it to yourself to try it. It's not PPT - it's better than PPT. Once you learn how to use it, you'll make the switch easily. The only downside would be if you already have many decks in PPT that need to be converted - it will take time and effort, as some of the formatting does not carry over from PPT to Keynote. **What problems is Keynote solving and how is that benefiting you?** We needed a better solution than PPT to create compelling slide decks, so that we can present our work to clients in the best possible format. We are an all Apple shop, so implementing Keynote was fast and easy. Keynote is macOS-only, so Windows users are out of luck. I'm tempted to say that Keynote is, by itself, almost reason enough to get a Mac. Although PowerPoint has greatly improved (especially in Office365), I still find Keynote a more approachable tool overall. **What do you dislike about Keynote?** When collaborating with PowerPoint-using colleagues, the exported format from Keynote sometimes lacks fidelity to the original, especially for certain builds and transitions.
