Once you get to grips with it, I think it's a really good system and once we get more involved with the additional features, will be a great asset. **What do you dislike about Kentico?** We have the MVC version which doesn’t have a lot of the features it promises and requires extensive development to implement. **Recommendations to others considering Kentico:** Consider which features you’re looking for and how the back end structure is going to support this features. We have a lot of work arounds that could be simplified. **What problems is Kentico solving and how is that benefiting you?** We’re able to demonstrate a much more complex content strategy and create a better structured end user experience. Created custom user portals that allowed partners to integrate into our site. **What do you dislike about Kentico?** Since the dot net changes, they have chosen to completely outsource the modules so that it no longer has basic functionality. Since any functional modules are not official and from different groups, we cannot utilize it due to internal policies. Each individual is considered a separate vendor. Instead of having a robust core to build off of, we now must build our own modules that are no longer in the off the shelf framework. Since we have to build a new framework from scratch we are looking at other frameworks. **Recommendations to others considering Kentico:** If you want to build modules for other companies, get into Kentico. **What problems is Kentico solving and how is that benefiting you?** Creating a robust system that we can service and control and allows easy content updates to technical level users. ### 6. The interface allows you to move around efficiently. It is easy for content editors to use. It is fast. **What do you dislike about Kentico?** Lack of bulk utilities, like bulk deletion of pages, bulk inserting of files etc... Sometimes the interface gets hung up with all the windows that can open up during an insert or edit phase. Also, the naming convention in the UI is odd. Sometimes you have to Save an item and then it a button called Cancel to close the window. That seems counter productive. **Recommendations to others considering Kentico:** Take the two week trial and check out the product. If your content is heavily laiden with files ( intranet with corporate policies ) you may want to review Kentico's methodology for treating every file as a page object. Also, the lack of bulk import and deletion utilities, makes every task a manual one. **What problems is Kentico solving and how is that benefiting you?** We are upgrading our corporate intranets and external websites. The move to Kentico 11 has helped us realize our goal of creating responsive sites, that are easily managed by content editors. The site performance is so much better than our last CMS. ### 8. Not all companies can upgrade their Kentico version easily, so the lack of support for a customer who has been loyal for some time is a little disappointing. I understand your strategy, is to "encourage" people to use your current versions, but for the in-between times where it is either impossible or unachievable to do so, a 'little' support would go along way, especially when convincing upper management to stick with your solution due to solid customer support - no matter what version your stakeholder is using. I guess saying all the above, we have stuck with you - as we have multiple websites **What problems is Kentico solving and how is that benefiting you?** Easy to build webparts, widgets and templates, which are easy to integrate with third-party solutions meaning we've been able to make a highly effective and top-notch UX for ALL our stakeholders. This also includes the fact we're keeping a certified AA rated - WCAG 2.1 website in check as well. ### 9. They have been making strides in getting things adjusted to a more robust MVC setup and of course the integration with existing Microsoft technologies is a plus. There are not many CMS to choose from that are built on the .Net framework. **What do you dislike about Kentico?** They are in a middle of a transition period from classic web forms to MVC. There are numerous areas that had to be left behind or rebuilt to accommodate the MVC approach that were just given in the web forms classic approach. We have had to modify our process of site / page creation to match and that has led to longer development time. Before our non-technical staff could manage 90+% of the items they needed, they have to rely on us more now. **Recommendations to others considering Kentico:** Make sure you have a technical staff on hand to handle setup / implementation. This is not a straight out of the box CMS that non-technical users will be able to use without in-house or 3rd party consultants to help with the implementation. **What problems is Kentico solving and how is that benefiting you?** The backend administrative piece of the site is still top notch. Most CMS systems are laid out in a way that non-technical users can get lost in. The ability to limit any area of the site and give our support staff only the things they need is great. ### 10. Permission can easily be granted to users and hence let them easily enter the content. **What do you dislike about Kentico?** We have multiple sites based upon kentico. They are hosted on different domains. For each one of them we have to setup an admin site as well with different database although the data set is nearly same. e.g. portal1.multiview.com and portal2.multiview.com How can I setup one admin site which can handle both the sites. I did not find any good article or resource to understand how to setup multiple sites (with different domains and licenses) and use only one admin domain. **What problems is Kentico solving and how is that benefiting you?** Dynamically created content. ### 11. I like the fact that you don't need to be a developer to edit content, add blog posts, move pages, etc. Kentico is very easy to learn. I also like the reports you can create in Kentico to easily keep track of completed forms. **What do you dislike about Kentico?** Having to download images individually. It would be nice if there was a clean way to import images in bulk. Sometimes, the formatting can be a bit annoying, but I can't say 100% that it's the product's fault: as a school, we work behind strict firewalls and our computer system is managed by an external company, so there are issues with the gateways/portals from time to time. I believe Kentico is sometimes affected by this situation. **Recommendations to others considering Kentico:** If you need a Microsoft system, this is the one you need. Other systems are far too expensive. You don't need to spend more than 4 times the cost of the Kentico license to get a powerful system. Save your money, get Kentico, and put that money towards a qualified developer to help you achieve your needs and more. **What problems is Kentico solving and how is that benefiting you?** I have content that interests a number of visitors from different regions of the world. Kentico provides me with a place at home to enter all my data and represent it uniformly across a number of digital channels. This means I can serve a number of end users at minimal cost. Without Kentico, I would have a flat and boring website with so many associated applications for so many different purposes that I would lose track of the asset. Kentico has given me the necessary tools to provide a cutting-edge website to meet the needs of today's demanding digital markets. ### 30. We were able to utilize the site we created and make it international also. It was customizable to meet our needs. We were able to add color swatch boxes, create custom reports, and add product page features that were necessary for our products. **What do you dislike about Kentico?** There were limitations, but always work arounds. We needed a lot of custom widgets and builds on the platform to meet our needs. Using a developer was costly, but 99 out of 100 times, we were able to achieve the desired outcome. I found some of the uploading of images and videos for web purposes to be clunky. **Recommendations to others considering Kentico:** This is a great platform and it's customizable. You can achieve many business objectives using the base platform and adding on through customization and coding. You do not need to be an expert at coding or developing to manage the sites. The user interface is easy to use and intuitive. You are able to limit the usage of certain user (i.e.... payment, customer inquiries, etc) without compromising security and user information. **What problems is Kentico solving and how is that benefiting you?** Selling directly to customers and also selling to distributors. It was a great solution for both. It had the ability to add on automated order processing - this software worked well with outside add on softwares. We were able to use a payment system that connected to all our existing systems. We also needed a program that a customer could place orders on and that the orders could transmit to our warehouses - we were able to built all the appropriate connectors. ### 31. However, this can be easily rectified by simply going to the live page and clicking "edit page." Every site we build and host is done so with Kentico--it's a .NET CMS. Kentico's out-of-the-box features are especially appealing to clients who want to maximize an all-in-one system for ecommerce or online marketing without using separate systems. It is not a very well known application here in the United States as it was developed in Europe.
