I like how easy it is to keep track of our fleet and stay on top of maintenance schedules, and I also appreciate how interactive the software is. So far, the main issue I’ve run into is that the system doesn’t always automatically recognize the drivers in the truck, and up to now we haven’t been able to correct or adjust that. Motive is a company who listens to its users and wants to continuously improve. They care about customer feedback and enhancing their product. The implementation phase was really easy for us. Motive had a wonder team on our account and made things very easy. In fact all three of our Motive teams were incredible (sales, implementation, account manager). There are still features I would like to see. However, they have a very developed road map and take my feedback directly. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. What problems is Motive solving and how is that benefiting you? IFTA mileage reporting, risk mitigation, accident investigation, and asset tracking and utilization are all essential aspects of our operations. The ability to report compliance for TXDOT is particularly important to us. With insurance premiums constantly on the rise, reducing our incident rate and overall risk is key to keeping those costs down. Conducting thorough post-accident investigations is vital, as it allows us to learn from our mistakes and prevent similar incidents in the future. Asset tracking is also critical; with thousands of assets spread across various job sites, it can be easy to overlook one, but effective tracking ensures we never lose track of any of them. It’s easy to use, and customer service is responsive. The videos are clear, the equipment works as expected, and it’s also easy to install. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. What do you dislike about Motive? The safety video fetching could be simpler or easier. I've used Lytx and their video samples, even for speeding, were quicker to be available and didn't require a video to be requested. Motive’s biggest strength for me is the freedom it gives a fleet manager or systems designer to build tools and reports beyond Motive’s existing plug-and-play reporting. In the past, I’ve run into issues with other telematics software companies denying me access to, or practical use of, my own data. With those providers, custom reporting was essentially hidden behind email threads, and trying to explain the report I wanted to someone else often ended with me giving up on creating the more specific reports and metrics my company needs to properly assess performance, usage, cost per mile, cost per job, and costing by vehicle type or department. Those are critical accounting inputs for a business with multiple revenue-generating departments, and they simply weren’t available to me before. With Motive Analytics, I can control the sandbox of vehicle metrics myself, and Motive has also provided technical support and shown genuine interest in helping develop these ideas through to completion. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. What do you dislike about Motive? What I dislike most about using Motive is some of the smaller UI details. Overall, everything is placed in locations that make sense; however, I run into optimization issues when I’m trying to access information quickly. For example, when I do a lookup by vehicle ID, it only pulls from the vehicle IDs currently loaded on the screen. Only 25 vehicles load at a time, and you have to manually scroll to load more. My company has 95 vehicles, so I don’t like having to scroll just to find a specific one when the search bar at the top of the menu should be able to reference the full list much faster. As a result, making changes to vehicles or drivers ends up being more time-consuming than it needs to be. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. What problems is Motive solving and how is that benefiting you? My company has a specific problem that Motive is more capable of handling than other telematics providers I've worked with and spoken to: tracking usage/maintenance of vehicles with tracked equipment on board. It is much simpler to apply maintenance to vehicles in bulk to properly monitor our vehicle's routine maintenance and hopefully prevent vehicle downtime as time goes on. In addition, as a specific example, there is hardware and software capability to handle separate engines mounted on our vehicles, as well as the ability to track and differentiate PTO usage from normal truck usage to allow us to track highway/road usage vs. jobsite fuel usage. This not only lets us better track job costing via travel vs. equipment costs, but it also enables us to write off fuel usage not used for the purpose of transportation on our taxes and get refunds for highway fuel taxes. Another problem being solved by Motive is equipment reliability. Our previous telematics partner was difficult to manage, as we would see dozens of tracking anomalies per pay period. I like the platform's multitude of features, especially the fleet view, which gives me a quick general overview of where my trucks are at. I also appreciate the ability to hover over icons and see specifics, like how fast the trucks are moving and if there's a check engine light. These are really solid features. The safety aspect is also important to me, as distracted driving can be costly, and the cameras help us identify issues and focus areas for our technicians and drivers. Additionally, I like using the compliance features to ensure our drivers are up to date with their safety training. Lastly, the analytics give me insights into whether we're improving in our coaching efforts, pushing the needle to the green, or if there are areas that need more attention. One thing that I would like to see is an improvement when going into the detailed view of the vehicles and going back to look at the past date histories. I feel the initial training seminars with Motive employees were extremely quick and too high-level, lacking detail orientation for our specific account and the features we have. I love how Motive uses smarter AI to streamline the coaching process and have more accurate events, which improves safety overall. The fuel management feature is great with its integrated Motive Card that helps save money and prevents fuel theft. I appreciate that the initial setup was easy, as I installed all of them myself. The decision to switch to Motive from Samsara was driven by Motive's better AI, more comprehensive safety features, and the fuel card. These aspects make Motive very valuable to me. I also notice data does not upload correctly on the backend. Driver logs are filled out correctly but don't upload properly. Sometimes, drivers log out of sessions but remain on duty even though they've completed all steps. When drivers watch safety videos, they often have to start over because they can't advance, and buttons are not clickable. The app could be much more user-friendly.
