From accounting to IT and most importantly for our shipping and receiving department. Upgrading to V7 has made this even more flexible. **What do you dislike about JAMS?** I am really enjoying V7. There are a few things that do get under my skin a bit. One, tooltips get in my way when trying to save my work on a job. Two, while I was upgrading from V6 to V7 I would get these error messages and they are really tiny scroll windows with no way to expand them. I've seen the same issue in other areas of JAMS V7 **What problems is JAMS solving and how is that benefiting you?** Probably the most important ones are the overnight jobs. Again we run hundreds of jobs. A smaller amount during the night still put quite a few. Sequence jobs are handy. The whole purpose of JAMS, getting out of scheduled tasks is why we purchased it. Gives us the benefits of a single place to look and manage regular tasks. **What do you dislike about JAMS?** Credentials are onboarded with incorrect security in a shared/team environment, i.e. adding a service account. it's a major pain to manage that. Other team members often forget to fix the security. Parts of the UI arent great - found v6 slightly better. There a trace dumps in places where a user tries an action and they don't have the correct security. **Recommendations to others considering JAMS:** Great product at a great price, alternatives out there such as Control-M, however this product for a fraction of the price is great. **What problems is JAMS solving and how is that benefiting you?** It gives us the benefits of a single place to look and manage regular tasks. An overview of what's happening in the environment Historically before we used JAMS there would often go days/weeks where regularly scheduled tasks would fail. There are tasks that can be done with PowerShell programming and other functions that have modules already built. **What do you dislike about JAMS?** Debugging scripted tasks is a little bit cumbersome. I wish there were better capabilities to debug within the Jams editor. In our organization, We had to set up a lot of SFTP jobs, SSIS package execution schedules. A lot of SSIS packages have a dependency on other SSIS packages. JAMS scheduler has multiple execution methods for scheduling SSIS packages sequentially. We can also add a dependency for the jobs to handle the execution of the jobs. The email alert functionality helps to receive the alerts and log files if any job fails. The JAMS client monitor window is handy to monitor daily jobs. **What do you dislike about JAMS?** JAMS WebClient still requires better performance. JAMS monitor is not displaying JAMS job execution status accurately. **What problems is JAMS solving and how is that benefiting you?** The process is simple to create jobs. JAMS scheduler has helped us automate the execution of SSIS packages for daily file uploads and SFTP the reports to external vendors. The email alert functionality is helping to alert us about job failures. We really like the reliability aspect of the tool. On a couple occasions we suffered HW problems which brought the DB host down in the middle of ETL processing which was orchestrated by JAMS. We were able to fix the HW issues and resume processing like nothing happened. We also like the level of customization in JAMS. On a several occasions JAMS team would implement feature request we needed. **What do you dislike about JAMS?** Our developers who use JAMS v.6 client reside in remote offices, away from the JAMS Scheduler v.6 engine. We have observed a slight lags between the client and Scheduler engine. **Recommendations to others considering JAMS:** Give it a shot. It's light and easy to deploy. **What problems is JAMS solving and how is that benefiting you?** We use JAMS to run everything - critical ETL processing which supports internal Data Warehouse, backups, file transmissions, jobs that destroy/rebuild lower environments daily & weekly, code deployments and maintenance jobs. The product has steadily improved with each release. Even more significantly, support for JAMS has been incredibly strong, even when we came across a quirky situation or a bug in the software. **What do you dislike about JAMS?** There is a learning curve for using various components of JAMS, even for things that seem like they should be straightforward. For example, the projected schedule feature of JAMS Client only shows jobs that started between the dates and times specified for the Time Range. This excludes any jobs that are repeating jobs during that time window if the initial start time of the job precedes the Time Range window. **What problems is JAMS solving and how is that benefiting you?** We are running most of our scheduled tasks for our university, including batch-submitted jobs from our Ellucian Banner ERP, via the JAMS Scheduler. We've been able to create any type of job or workflow that was needed. We've had some complex workflows with over 100 jobs in it. The database that manages the JAMS data is easy to understand and I often query it. It has great PowerShell APIs when we need to do bulk submissions. The Windows client is easy to use and helpful. It is easy to manage these jobs, and to fix and retry failed jobs. We had a recent unplanned outage, and because of how JAMS works, we were able to restart jobs in an organized fashion. That's very problematic. The setup process for connecting to an existing SQL instance is very bad. We made it through it because of the excellent support, but it should be more straightforward. For example, when creating a JAMS database on an existing SQL instance, it asks for the path for the data and log files. While a little more careful reading would have made it clear to us that it wanted that info to create the database on the server - it shouldn't have asked that in the first place. IMO it should have created the database in the default for that SQL instance. The features that we take advantage of are the multiple job types, scheduling, and extensability. In my organization it is important provide end users flexibility with the technologies that they can use and customize. Jams allows us to meet these requirements and allow our users to use their preferred technology. Additionally, we're able to create customizations that further extend Jams capabilities and give our teams exactly what they need. **What do you dislike about JAMS?** While there isn't a whole lot that I dislike about Jams Job Scheduler, there are a couple of pain points we've had to deal with. Deploying customizations to multiple servers can be a bit of a headache, due to the time it takes to get setup for the first time. However, when deployed using an automated process, this is only a temporary discomfort. Additionally, I have had trouble with the online documentation not being up to date with the latest version. Although, that problem was remedied quickly by the Jams staff. **Recommendations to others considering JAMS:** Jams has excellent documentation and very helpful support staff, so I wouldn't hesitate to dive in and tackle any automation task. **What problems is JAMS solving and how is that benefiting you?** The main problem that we solve with Jams are automated scheduling. In our environment we rely on a service oriented architecture, and want a system that is easy to modify how tasks are triggered. Jams provides this additional outer layer enabling us to customize how tasks our carried out in our environment. ### 50. The dependencies on jobs and groups of jobs (setups) allows for the most efficient use of system time. Grouping jobs together as a setup allows flexibility to make changes very quickly for entire groups of jobs at one time. The projected schedule gives great visibility. Having windows scripts, FTP, and JDE in one place makes for easier system monitoring. Lastly, alerts give you the exception handling that is required to handle issues when they arise, without it propagating an issue. **What do you dislike about JAMS?** I honestly have no dislikes of this toolset or the people that I have reached out to for help with any questions. JAMS has been one of the BEST solutions that we have put in place. It's positive effect on the Business Applications department has been fabulous. **What problems is JAMS solving and how is that benefiting you?** We have decreased the time to perform system activity and improved the ability to react to issues if and when they arise. When a temporary or permanent change in schedule has arisen, the time to accommodate has been small and simple.
