Jama Connect offers a wide range of powerful features that make requirements management easier and more efficient. We migrated all our projects from different tools to Jama, and we are very satisfied with both the product itself and the responsive communication and support from the Jama team. In particular, Mr. Preston Mitchell played a key role in helping us with the migration by importing ReqIF and even Excel files smoothly. What we appreciate most is the flexibility to customize our own workflows and represent them through statuses that we can update easily. The locking feature, along with detailed activity tracking for each item, is extremely helpful. The review feature is also very robust, which makes collaboration and collecting feedback much more efficient. In addition, exporting and importing data is straightforward and highly customizable. Another feature we find especially valuable is the filtering functionality, which makes it much easier to navigate and manage requirements. What do you dislike about Jama Connect? Like any management tool, Jama Connect has some downsides, but honestly, I’ve noticed very few, maybe two or three areas that could be improved: Relationships/Links Between Items Currently, the relationships between items are limited to only two cases: upstream and downstream. It would be helpful to have additional relationship types or naming options for items on the same level (for example, linking test cases to other test cases without forcing one to be upstream or downstream). Review Process – Status Update After Closing In the review process, once reviewers approve or reject items, the moderator has to close the review. Unfortunately, after closing, the status of all items defaults to “approved,” regardless of whether they were actually approved or declined. It would be much better if, after the moderator closes the review, the item statuses could automatically update based on the majority decision or the final outcome from the reviewers’ feedback. Review Process – Handling of Approved Items in New Revisions When a new revision is published, the previously approved items are still shown in the review, and reviewers must go through and approve them again, which can be a bit annoying. It would be great if already approved/accepted items were either hidden in subsequent revisions or kept with their approved status so reviewers don’t have to reapprove them unnecessarily. Jama Connect has really helped us streamline our requirements management process in many ways. One of the biggest benefits for us is that, after migrating all our projects, we now have everything centralized in one place. This makes it much easier to manage and navigate our entire project database and specifications. It also provides great flexibility and fluidity in handling different sets of requirements, whether software, hardware, architecture, test cases, FMEA, or other types of specifications. Jama Connect supports the entire V-model cycle, from requirements to test cases on the right side of the V-cycle, making it a truly comprehensive solution for managing all aspects of our projects. As I already mentioned in the first review, the built-in review features are a huge advantage. You can manage reviews, approvals, and even test runs directly within the platform, which makes collaboration and project tracking much easier and more efficient. It is a relatively intuitive tool that proves beneficial for large sets of requirements (\>100) that needs downflowing throughout a product breakdown. It would be great to parse item type fields for e.g. project phase, compliancy statements and verification methods in a requirement into a tabular form instead of a list. I like that Jama Connect for Requirements Management is web-based, which means its performance is not dependent on my hardware, and the database is safely stored in the cloud instead of on my laptop. I appreciate that everyone receives updates automatically because everything is online, eliminating the need for manual pushing or committing changes. The customer service experience is something I really like. It is efficient and very helpful, providing assistance to a great level of detail. Additionally, I found the initial setup to be intuitive and I love the well-designed, user-friendly UI, especially with my previous experience with tools like Doors, Jira, and Cameo. The API offers a great level of granularity for integration with internal tools. Integration of AI in Jama is in development, but already the first tools are quite useful. In addition, the technical support and customer service have been consistently responsive, knowledgeable, and highly satisfactory. Another aspect I value is Jama's strong focus on innovation. In our case, the setup required significant effort, partly because our existing Jira structure was not optimally aligned with the integration requirements. Another challenge is reporting. For reports that need to be tailored to specific organizational requirements, a Velocity-based solution is often necessary. Since we do not have the internal expertise or resources to develop these ourselves, we typically need to engage Jama's services. While the results are generally good, this process can require additional time and coordination. Finally, creating and maintaining filters can sometimes be more complex and time-consuming than expected, especially for advanced use cases. Senior Project Engineer Enterprise (\> 1000 emp.) 7/29/2026 "Jama Connect: Easy Reviews, Strong Traceability, and Amazing Support - with Ease of Use Suggestions" 5/5 What do you like best about Jama Connect? Jama Connect is essentially a full-service, full-featured requirements management and traceability platform. It’s easy to use overall, and what I like most is its native review workflow and built-in traceability capabilities. The user interface is user friendly - except the recent change in the search for new project. Where you can only type a couple characters before the search starts. The performance is also very good. It still takes while to create a baseline - sometimes it takes long enough that I create request a second baseline before the pop-up shows. The only other performance issue is in the review activity log. It takes a very long time to pull that up. We currently use TaskTop for most our integrations. We will start using JCI in 1 month and I'm hoping use it for Jira and ReqIf integrations. The support team is amazing. They are highly available and informative is all aspects of needing assistance for myself as org admin, and for team members when they have questions I cannot answer. As for AI, the test case intelligence is very good. The feedback from the team is that it is helpful even in the situations where the requirement is complex or not written well. The JCA has been clumsy. However, an update has been made that, I hope solves that problem. I have not been able to look at that yet where the refinement is posted in the current requirement. I'll make a quick comment about the pricing - but my head doesn't really think in macroeconomics. I firmly believe the ROI of the tool is high- but I'm not good at placing monetary value on that. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. What do you dislike about Jama Connect? The only downside is that it is difficult to get the team up and running on AI capabilities. I mentioned in the last post that the JCA requirements advisor has been clumsy, and I think that interface can still use some 'ease of look' look-see. Again, the refinement update in 9.38 should solve some of the issues with it. The MCP is also not being picked up greatly by the team at RA. This is due (partly) to the copilot studio issue, that I think is just about to be released. But management feels that we are slow to see AI and MCP value (with the exception of test case intelligence) . Baselines are an important part of archiving old work and releases. However the interface is very difficult. A quick fix would be so pin folders at the top of the baseline area. The biggest problem is that is a difficult area to keep clean due to the number of reviews and work complete in the project. And the people that can manage it are WAY TOO LIMITED. Everyone that creates a review or baseline should be able put it in a meaningful place in the structure in a baseline area. But since only admins can create folders or move content into them people just have to leave the baselines where they are created by the tool. NOT GOOD. This makes it a big effort to clean up for release and audit. This is one of the places where doing work later makes more work. It is a 'link while you think' -type of work and the baselines should be managed at the point of creation. Another big problem that can be solved by Jama is the review information availability. We have a large enterprise problem where reviews are closed automatically (this is an equal problem with training and ease of use. But when we say it is a training problem, it is also an ease of use problem) Anyway, when the review is closed, the program manager does not have easy availability of the approval status of the review and the approvers. There are a couple reports, but we need a more native way to be able to access this information. This content should be better accessible by API, and better yet to be accessible by filters. Another place where there could be improvement is the dashboards. We push to use the tool natively, so creating reports, though often works, isn not ideal. We need better complex dashboard capabilities.... with the ability to have 2 custom fields as variables - such as status per phase example. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. What problems is Jama Connect solving and how is that benefiting you? It solves our compliance needs by having the native review and traceability. These are the two biggest deliverables (other than requirements, of course) of 62443 for user. We have been slow to pick up live traceability - mostly because of the structural changes we need to make in the project to get away from a large all-encompassing relationship model to a multiples for focused relationship models. I use Jama Connect as a safety engineer to manage requirements and testing. The traceability feature is crucial for generating a defensible safety case, making it easier to represent and share traceability from requirements to tests. I like that Jama Connect is customizable, allowing us to create any workflow that makes sense for our team and to create our own item types. The Review Center is a standout feature for me; having asynchronous reviews that can end with e-signatures is incredibly valuable. This tool facilitates static testing by allowing us to test ideas on requirements, safety goals, hazards, allocations, and test cases, helping us catch errors early in the development process. Additionally, I thought the initial setup was pretty easy and Jama Connect is quite intuitive. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. What do you dislike about Jama Connect? I don't really have much criticism for the tool, aside from the expense. It is an incredibly expensive tool and I don't know how to evaluate if we're getting the ROI. We primarily use it for test management, and convincing people to use it more regularly for requirements management is hard because they prefer Atlassian products, which fit better in the developer workflow. Those tools, however, aren't built for the needed rigor around baseline-ing and traceability like Jama Connect. Without using it fully for requirements, the tool is too expensive to just use it for test management. Also, we tried the Jira integration initially, but there's not enough flexibility to integrate well as the mapping usually isn't clean 1-to-1; it's usually 1-to-many or many-to-many, so we dropped the integration package. I like Jama Connect because of the tools that are offered including integration into other systems. I personally have not used the tools very much, but I have learned about the full stack and how it can be used to implement traceability between all levels of technical and commercial requirements. I also do like how reviews and workflows are handled to ensure that we get feedback from all the stakeholders. It is not 100% intuitive to users at my company to use if they have never used it.
