Irfanview works with every kind of file extension I have ever tried it with, and many that I never thought to try it with until alternative applications failed me. It's so lightweight and fast that I never hesitate to engage it even when my CPU is groaning under the weight of profligate processor demands. The tools it offers, at least the ones I use, are close to the surface (vs buried under subordinate menus) and straightforward. It has many powerful functions which allow really deep-reaching editing to be done, at least the kind of editing I do many times a week-- taking images that are completely (structurally) unsuited to the application to which I intend to put them, and torturing them until, docile and compliant, they suit admirably. The program, as I have it set up, often resizes windows according to some arcane algorithm that I cannot identify or defeat. There are numerous settings/preferences, a large percentage of which I do not understand at all, which may well solve this minor inconvenience. It is a very good solution to replace the slow and boring Windows image viewer. IrfanView offers a much greater fluidity when it comes to moving between images and displaying it on the screen. It also offers a set of interesting editing tools and the ability to watch videos. I can associate IrfanView to any image or video extension that interests me. The software allows me to open a browser to view and locate images quickly. It also offers the possibility of adding PlugIns and other tools such as a batch to rename files, an OCR application and a screen image capturer.
