IrfanView is such a great piece of software, that sometimes I have difficulty believing it's free. No hidden costs, no trials and no pro version, it's completely free! Owner Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.) 9/23/2020 "Irfanview Rocks" 4.5/5 What do you like best about IrfanView? Irfanview has been my primary image viewer for YEARS. There is almost nothing it won't open, and year after year, the updates and plug-ins have only improved the software. Irfanview is also a great piece of software for batch processing or renaming of images, resizing/cropping, rotating, and adjusting image colors. Also while not extensive, the effects included are very useful for manipulating pictures. It also doesn't hurt that it is freeware and has been well updated and supported for over a decade. This type of longevity from an app, without becoming bloatware is rare and appreciated. It does what it does extremely well, using very few resources (generally) and hasn't changed from its core functionality. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. What do you dislike about IrfanView? While Irfanview is primarily an image viewer, I do (at times) which it had more image manipulation capabilities. Also, it's thumbnail gallery view is a little resource-intensive, and its plug-ins for non-image media could be improved. I do wish it had more effects, and/or the effects included had more nuanced settings. I would also like to see it auto-update, but so far that hasn't been on offer, meaning if I want the latest version I have to remind myself to go and get it every couple of months (or in some cases years). Nearly anytime I need to view images. . . Irfanview is my go-to app. It is also excellent at resizing small, low-quality images up to larger sizes while preserving as much quality as can be expected. Irfanview also allows me to side-step all of the (usually inferior) in-house image viewer apps my OS might want me to use. IrfanView works well, is small, and strictly for manipulating existing images or changing the file type. I've used this program for decades, it's my go-to image editor if I can use it. It is considerate about associating file extensions and gives you full control over what to associate with the program so it plays nice with other image editors if you want to use something more powerful for certain types of files. It's also easy to update or change the file associations inside the program in properties and settings. It has a GUI batch image processor built in that is easy to use and reasonably powerful with wildcards and rename pattern naming. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. What do you dislike about IrfanView? One of IrfanViews strength may be a weakness for some - it only manipulates images - it can't create them. When I create "programmer art" I need to use another program. So it's not a general art program. Irfanviews other weakness is it doesn't deal with pngs with transparency well, so I use other software for those. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. What problems is IrfanView solving and how is that benefiting you? I use it to resize images, change the image bit depth, crop images, sharpen the image and convert from one image format to another. The program is small so it loads fast and works well to do a quick change on one or two files but with the batch processor scales well to changing hundreds or thousands of images. It has a number of image utility functions where you can convert a series of images to a larger one, take screen shots, convert an image to grayscale, sepia, do limited color switching and negative the image values to name a few I use a lot, but there are a lot more and there are plug-ins as well. Irfanview loads very fast even on slower machines. It is faster than Window's default image viewer. 80% converts to various formats fast, and has a batch converted, and resizer for easy conversion, example for web image optimizations. Image conversions may loose quality sometimes, specially with transparencies. Other image tools might fare better. You may need plugins for some file formats.
