The support was also fantastic in answering my questions. **What do you dislike about IPinfo?** The only, very minor, problem I had was that their bulk API did not support the type of data that I needed. Their customer support is some of the best in the industry, I noted an issue with their website to support and within a week they had resolved it and gotten back to me to let me know that it had been handled. That is a big sign of company maturity to me, and it only made me want to use the platform more. **What do you dislike about IPinfo?** I would like to see an additional option geared to those who want to "pay as they go", rather than a set tiering system that offers a cap on monthly limits with overage charges. I never know exactly how many requests I am going to need in a given time frame and I don't want to overpay if it isn't necessary. **What problems is IPinfo solving and how is that benefiting you?** I discovered IPinfo when I was looking to help a colleague solve a curiosity of theirs. He had a 40MB server log file of visitors who indicated malicious intent by trying to break into his server's SSH, which he only noticed when he was going to retire his site after three years of continuous operation. He wanted to know the countries of origin for the traffic, and I found IPinfo's "Map" tool to convert IP addresses to geolocation. After writing a random sampling algorithm to get a good estimate of the entirety of the data without bypassing the free tier limit, I was able to get a beautiful overlay of information on a map of the world to offer him. ### 8. Many times I've needed to get details of an IP address (location, owner, cidr block), and many times I've resorted to writing a script to scrape whois or create my own database. I don't need to analyze addresses often, so it's really too much work for too little reliable reward. So I was delighted to find IPInfo has an API. And I'm bordering on ecstatic to find out it is reliable. I'm still developing what I need from the API, but I've yet to see any bad information. **What do you dislike about IPinfo?** I'm not sure it's really a downside of IPInfo, but I'm still fumbling around trying to find the right fields in the API. If anything, maybe there is too much information, some of it repetitive. (Visible for USA with a minimum order value, visible for Canada with a different threshold ... and hidden entirely for international visitors) IPinfo.io was the perfect solution to make that possible. **What do you dislike about IPinfo?** The only thing I dislike is the price. A developer I hired installed IPinfo onto my site to make the "countdown to free shipping" threshold work properly, but he did not tell me that there was a max number of IP Calls on the free plan. So by the 3rd week of the month, IPinfo just stopped working. (Then it would start working again the first of the following month) ... Now that I am paying for IPinfo that isn't a problem anymore. I just wish there was a more affordable option for sites with my traffic. **Recommendations to others considering IPinfo:** Be sure to review your current level of traffic to make sure you won't exceed the "free" plan. I often use it to keep tabs on where visitors are coming from to my website. Recently, I set up one of my analysis pages to render hundreds of IP addresses, and then use Ajax calls to look up each address with IPInfo. I use http2, so the parallelism possible is almost unbounded. Your servers are so impressive, that when flooded by my page's requests, they return all the results within seconds, and before I can scroll the page. Typically, you can deliver a thousand look-ups in under 5 seconds! **What do you dislike about IPinfo?** There isn't much I can complain about. The occasional usage overflow warning email, but that's fair enough. Also, the location precision isn't the best.
