Besides that, it feels more user-friendly than other software It has a help option that includes a help portal and a digital assistant chat. There is not much that I dislike about the software, as it is the best tax software I have used. The only not-so-negative feedback is that they could map things a little better and explain better the vast options that the software includes. The interface is relatively easy to navigate, the search function usually finds the form that you are looking for, the navigation response time is quick (unlike QuickBooks online which I consider unusable), you can reverse navigate from most of the form fields back to the input screen, the help pages are decent, the suggestions area in the review section is decent, and you can now allow you to speak to a live person for support (a big deal) since many problems are too complicated for a simple chat interaction. Also, the quality of the support staff varies, some are quite competent and others are quite inexperienced. Very few know anything about the tax code and why you need to do what you're asking to do. Maybe that is asking too much. Also, the price increases each year and I'm not sure it's price competitive. No one wants to enter their client's prior year returns, however, to switch platforms and I'm sure that keeps client retention higher than it would be if you could switch more easily. Certified Public Accountant Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.) 4/30/2025 "A solid cloud based tax preparation solution" 4/5 What do you like best about Intuit ProConnect Tax? 100% cloud based - I can work on my clients' tax returns wherever I am as long as I have my laptop or access to a computer. It is also very easy to set up and get started and does not carry a lot of overhead with it. You can pay as you go for your returns or purchase them all upfront. I rarely need customer support, but when I do, they're very helpful and you normally don't spend an hour or more on hold. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. What do you dislike about Intuit ProConnect Tax? Some of the input forms are clunky. For example, when making elections on a tax return, there are sometimes three different places to make elections. Sometimes they're on the main input screen, sometimes you access them by clicking on a link in the upper right corner that usually isn't labeled elections. Many elections are on the elections input page and the ones that aren't are sometimes hard to find if you don't know where to look. Integration with QuickBooks Online is hit and miss. Client information has a different format in the two modules and so the system often creates duplicate clients and merging them is not as easy or as seamless as it feels like it should be. ProConnect integrates well with the IRS's transcript service when you have power of attorney. This saves me lots of time on the back end when making sure everything's included in the filing of their tax return. The most helpful (and surprising) thing about using ProConnect is the level of technical support they provide. Whenever I have a question I simply request a callback, which occurs within less than 3 minutes. The support technicians are well trained and friendly to work with. The only downside I can think of is, despite my initial training on the software, at first I found it a little less intuitive than I expected it to be, especially after being a long time user of TurboTax. What problems is Intuit ProConnect Tax solving and how is that benefiting you? The biggest problem it solved was eliminating hard copies of documents. My clients now do their own scanning and uploading whereas in the past I was accepting hard copies of tax documents from them and having to scan/copy them myself. For these clients, ProConnect also eliminated what use to be hours of collating documents for my clients. Now, it's all electronic with easy upload to a secure portal and their built in email feature allows me to easily notify clients when their final tax returns are available for their records. I found the software to have all of the forms I needed in a fairly accessible and organized manner, which allowed for ease of use. The support staff were especially quick and helpful the few times that I required assistance which compared to other software(s) I have used if an amazing bonus. I did have some initial difficulties learning to use the software, and found the lack of customization options to be frustrating, would love to see a dark mode added in future updates. The most helpful feature of ProConnect Tax is that it is an online software. I appreciate not having to download a program. I can access it anytime, anywhere. It can be difficult to navigate of find the form you are looking for. I am very unhappy with the change in pricing structure for E-Filing & Printing. We are already paying for the returns. I like the automatic extraction of information from the uploaded w-2s and 1099s. I like that you can now upload depreciation schedules instead of entering items one-by-one. In my experience, customer service reps are responsive, but are not tax experts, they don't understand what the forms are if something is not flowing as expected, they are just systems people with scripts to troubleshoot. It is not easy to trace on your own how information you input is flowing into the tax return - especially when it comes to the state tax payments for California. Work-from-anywhere access. Everything is browser-based, so I can jump between office, home, and client sites without installing desktop software. • One-click QuickBooks import. Pulls chart of accounts, balances, and invoices directly from QuickBooks Online/Desktop, cutting data-entry time to almost zero. • Massive form coverage & automatic e-file. Federal, all states, and most local returns are built in; diagnostics catch missing data before filing. • Pay-per-return pricing. Great for smaller firms or side practices—no huge upfront license; just buy the returns you need. • Built-in client collaboration tools. A secure portal for document upload, e-signature, and real-time status updates keeps the back-and-forth emails to a minimum. • Context-aware guidance. In-product research links and worksheets pop up exactly where you need them, so you don’t have to hunt around. • Time-saving bulk actions. Pay-per-return is great to start, but heavy season volumes can outrun a fixed-license alternative. • Interface feels dated in spots. Core navigation is modern, yet some legacy screens and reports still look 2010-era. • Occasional slowdowns at peak traffic. Around April 15th the cloud servers can lag, especially when generating PDFs or running diagnostics. • Limited layout customization. You can’t fully redesign letter templates or add custom fields without exporting to Word. • Add-on creep. E-signature, advisory modules, and certain state packages come at extra cost, which isn’t obvious up front. • Learning curve for power features. I've used PTO daily for 5 years and counting. I've been really happy with my decision. As a long-time Lacerte user, transitioning to PTO was easy. The software is naturally familiar and intuitive. It's web based, which allows for seamless multi-user access and means there is no need for legacy network hardware or staff to be in one place. It offers a lot of additional features at no additional cost, like Intuit Link as a client portal, document import of basic tax documents like a W-2, and Intuit Tax Advisor for tax planning. PTO is tightly integrated with QuickBooks Online. They share the same client list and sign-in. It's easy to switch between one and the other. There is an import feature called Prep for Taxes to import data from QuickBooks to PTO for tax preparation, however, I've found that I want full control over what is reported on the tax returns and have opted not to use that feature for my own processes.
