For those returns that are extremely in depth, with many special tax rules, Lacerte is exceptional at including everything and providing trustworthy calculations. It is also set up with the ability to watch the actual forms change while adjusting the input. **What do you dislike about Intuit Lacerte Tax?** Lacertee is not friendly to the non-career accountant. It is not setup to resemble government forms, and many features and inputs may seem hidden. If you need a value on a certain line but don't know where to enter it on the input sheet, you can right click and select the "jump to line" feature. Lacerte also offers a handy checkmark took that allows you to check off numbers you have reconciled which makes reviewing very efficient - I always know where I left off. You can also prepare customized footnotes easily. Lacerte is also very attentive about updating their software based on the most recent tax law changes, more so than other tax prep softwares. **What do you dislike about Intuit Lacerte Tax?** I don't like how you're not able to "override" values directly on the return. I also feel like Lacerte isn't the strongest option when preparing multistate returns - I get kind of confused even whilst working on maybe 1-2 different states. Support is ridiculously slow for the price we pay. Most calls to support result in holding for at least 30 min to get even the most basic answer. Lacerte's diagnostics are above and beyond any other software I have worked with. With guiding questions to give completeness to the return. Also included is an analysis of every return prepared. This will compare the return to the IRS database averages for similar returns filed. This gives tremendous insight to potential missed information or possible pitfalls that could flag the return with the IRS. Customer support, and the Lacerte community, are always quick, friendly and very accurate with any issues I might run into - usually becasue of operator error :-) Finally, there is contunued Professional Education credits offered through Intuit each year as part of the package. Through these classes I learn new fetures and tips, and get my CPE hours! **What do you dislike about Intuit Lacerte Tax?** The price is a little higher than I was hoping, but I find it well worhth the extra cost when compared to other software applications. **Recommendations to others considering Intuit Lacerte Tax:** Try the free period and learn as much as you can. The learning curve is not as steep as some softwares, but the use is different than most programs. The software is input driven rather than form driven - this means it will auto-populate required forms based on your input. No more searching around for what needs to be filed for the return when something changes. These features have saved close to 40 - 50% on the time it takes each return to be prepared. ### 13. Its coverage of states and forms is very broad and is a great software whether a 1 man shop or a firm of 25. **What do you dislike about Intuit Lacerte Tax?** The absolute single worst shortfall is the lack of an electronic organizer that is either mac-compatible or agnostic (so web-based versus Windows based only). Intuit has been very slow in integrating Mac - just now have a QuickBooks offering that is "average' still far inferior to the windows based version. It really is boggling - if you search suggestions - users have been clamoring for a Mac-compatible tax organizer for a decade now. Another shortfall is the incohesive community search - many times other users have the same issue and you should easily be able to find their solution (versus calling and waiting during busy season) but when you search the google machine and you see a solution in the headline upon clicking you get a notice that the page is no longer available - historical solutions vanish into thin air even though google has a record of its existence. I've spoken to reps and they acknowledge this is an issue. Incredulous. **Recommendations to others considering Intuit Lacerte Tax:** Know that it is not Mac-Friendly particularly for tech savvy clients who want to input themselves into an electronic organizer. **What problems is Intuit Lacerte Tax solving and how is that benefiting you?** After you get past the tax organizer debacle, the software program is really strong and the interface allows even the most computer illiterate CPA to navigate fairly easily through the system. There are truly no complaints on how great a program it is when you are working in it. Finding answers to oddball tax occurences and the organizer are the two glaring shortfalls. ### 15. I can add/remove columns to save from switching between other views. Also, we have a couple of clients with huge returns, at least 40 states, and every year our IT guy has come in and adjust/fiddle with one of the settings to allow the return to load properly, why Lacerte puts a default limit on the memory usage is beyond me. **Recommendations to others considering Intuit Lacerte Tax:** Lots of tutorial videos on the website, which can be accessed from your desktop. Customer service is not outsourced, so you'll always reach customer service/tech in the US. Furthermore, I didn't like that in this last year (where NYS filers were required to have Driver's License information) we were unable to export the license information from Lacerte to an Excel spreadsheet - in fact that is about the ONLY field where you can't export the data. I would have loved to have a cohesive spreadsheet in order to keep track of client Drivers Licenses. **Recommendations to others considering Intuit Lacerte Tax:** Stay on top of updates - make sure the administrator is doing them first thing in the morning so that when everyone is immersed in their work, they don't get interrupted by Lacerte attempting to update and then crashing when you try to schedule the update for later in the day. **What problems is Intuit Lacerte Tax solving and how is that benefiting you?** Lacerte is beneficial for a cohesive operation across the team, and being able to track where and when people have entered/edited fields is helpful with accountability - considering how insane tax season is and how easily people forget doing things, that is highly beneficial. ### 28. You can easily hide them but its an extra step. I also wish updates could be performed on only the states you use as updating every state every time there is an update is time consuming. It is more costly then other products available but the benefits outweigh the upfront cost.
