What do you like best about Internet Information Services (IIS) for Windows Server?

Seems a little silly to be writing a review for IIS since it is basically a given for those working with Windows servers. Thankfully, IIS has almost always been an easy-to-use and reliable web platform (well at least since IIS 6). Regardless of the size of your server environment or your role within IT, it is easy to configure IIS to your needs and learn how to use it. The new config editor makes it easy to update config settings without having to dig into web.config. I also appreciate the security updates and the improvements on FTP server management through IIS. Overall it is a small but solid upgrade. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Internet Information Services (IIS) for Windows Server?

The update over the previous version is fairly small. It is also not the most modern version of the tool and you will have to update to 2012R2 if using Windows 10. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering Internet Information Services (IIS) for Windows Server:

Probably should be updating to IIS 8 at this point. Continued use of 7.5 may lead to future security threats. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Internet Information Services (IIS) for Windows Server?

IIS is very easy to install and configure in server. we can add all of application in IIS by separating Application pools. We can use same application pool with more than 1 application in server. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Configuration is managed properly as its maintain in a XML file and very hard to identify is something went wrong in IIS, even there is no default reset option for IIS configuration. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Internet Information Services (IIS) for Windows Server?

The community around IIS is very supportive, attentive and involved. For instance, some weeks ago I was trying to use LetsEncrypt to obtain a SSL certificate, and as I'm browsing the web looking for tutorials, I found that an IIS user developed an automated application that not only configures the server for you, but also renews the certificates before they expire.

In production, IIS has always delivered great speeds and is able to serve hundreds of requests per second. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Internet Information Services (IIS) for Windows Server?

Sometimes IIS is associated with legacy applications and people believe that it underperforms compared to Apache or Ngnix, but in my opinion it is very robust and reliable. I don't have many complains about it. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering Internet Information Services (IIS) for Windows Server:

Give it a shot; it might not be as popular as Ngnix or as liked by the linux community as Apache, but it is very robust and reliable! One suggestion though, is that its documentation on Microsoft's side is a little bit ambiguous, so be prepared to do third-party lookups when trying configurations. This is a web server, it literally runs the web apps I host on top of it. Some of the benefits of using IIS compared to Apache or Ngnix is the Windows integration and the code snippets that people have developed for it through time. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about Internet Information Services (IIS) for Windows Server?

- Easy to get started (you can configure all by just installing recommended configuration in Web Platform Installer)

- Separation of application pools for shared environments

- Ability to run almost anything (e.g. not only ASP.NET)

- Built in scalability options

- Integration with system (especially monitoring and logging)

What do you dislike about Internet Information Services (IIS) for Windows Server?

IIS versions is sticked to Windows versions, so if you have Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2 - you will get one IIS, if you have Windows 10, Windows Server 2012 R2 - you will got another. There is reason for this - IIS is tightly integrated with system but still I dislike it and want to be able to use latest IIS. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

If you are on Windows all you need to do is to run Web Platform Installer, choose Recommended Configuration and press Install - it will take you five minutes to start using it, and you will like it. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Internet Information Services (IIS) for Windows Server solving and how is that benefiting you?

IIS is used to run main sites behind load balancer in a farm (cluster). Also separate installation is used to serve static content, after some tuning it behaves very good and I do not see any reason why should I move to something else like a nginx. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
