We started using inriver when we were launching our online storefront, and inriver offered all of the functionality we needed for enriching the products in our portfolio. Now that we are several years into our implementation, we have still not come up with any data challenge that we could not manage using inriver. Our inriver team has also been supportive, encouraging, and proactive in helping us to grow. They don't want us to be satisfied with just the basics. I especially appreciate the access I have to their product experts and the way they facilitate knowledge sharing among their customers. **What do you dislike about Inriver?** The only dislike we have run into so far has been addressed! Early on, the Content Store functionality was a little difficult to configure and navigate. I found myself exporting content to spreadsheets to share with external partners who did not want to use the Content Store interface. Inriver has made some great improvements since then and we now have more partners taking advantage of Content Store. Otherwise, the areas where we may have doubts are also areas of opportunity and possibility. At times I have wondered if we have a little too much flexibility at our disposal with inriver. Your implementation partner will play a huge role in helping you set up your data model, so make sure you find the right fit for your organization as you make your early decisions. We also haven’t made the best use of completeness rules, but I suspect they have more to offer for data governance that we just haven't explored yet. **What problems is Inriver solving and how is that benefiting you?** Inriver provided the flexible, customizable solution we needed for managing our catalog of diverse products. We launched on our timeline with a subset of products and have been able to build out our catalog continually. As our portfolio expands to include new brands and products with different data needs, adding categories and fields has been a breeze. Changes to existing categories are much easier than I expected them to be. We are just getting started with a data syndication program and expect it to bring process efficiencies that will free up staff to pursue more data partnership opportunities. ### 7. We were using sharepoint and spreadsheets before and it was a real pain keeping up to date. **What do you dislike about Inriver?** The hardest part is getting buy-in from all the necessary partners internally to contribute data points to the master database. **Recommendations to others considering Inriver:** Make sure you test drive all of the competitors. After loading your real data (not test data) you will see if you can actually work with the platform. **What problems is Inriver solving and how is that benefiting you?** The biggest problem solved is having the latest versions of content instantly available to our digital partners when they need it. Before it would take weeks to update the spreadsheets they required us to populate our data into. Now we say here it is and they provide their own integration links. The largest benefit is we are able to respond within days to requests instead of weeks or months. And what we are sending them matches what we send all other retailers so there is no mis-representation of our products or their features. ### 17. By gathering all of our product related data into one streamlined location, for the first time in our history we know what information we have, what we need, and who we're sharing it with. The value for our investment has been fantastic, and the InRiver team has been quite helpful in assisting us in leveraging the platform. Syndicate has been a key addition to the portfolio since we adopted InRiver, and is integral to our continued success. It takes my team our of copy and paste pergatory, and allows us to spend more time with our customers, critically analyzing opportunities for growth. It's also allowed us to sifnigicantly expand the number of customers we can serve! There have been many bumps in the road over the last few years, but our Customer Success Manager is always an ear to list, championing our needs within the business. With the Community Board for Customers/ Users, we're able to communicate what feautres would be most appreciated as they continue to learn, develop and grow the platform. Data is always always changing and growing, and this partnership with InRiver will carry us on into the future. We are incredibly excited about the recent acquisition of Detail Online, and eagerly await the full integration. InRiver is really looking to the full circle picture for data for their customers. Always looking for the next domino to push! **What do you dislike about Inriver?** Though InRiver does include a simple "task" functionality, the platform does not include a fully functional work management platform. When assigning a user product data to update, there is no way to link what fields are required to complete the task - meaning the requestor's task description is critical. The task doesn't necessarily alert the assigned individual; they must either create a query with an alert, or manually go in and check to see if they have tasks. When they're finished with the task, they must also remember to manually close it. Data quality can be a bit tricky as well. InRiver does have completeness capabilities, but they are somewhat more simplistic than our ideal would be. Fear not, with some Excel skills and ingenuity, you are able to Magyver yourself a robust data qualtiy audit using InRiver. This is the case with many of the limitations we've experienced with InRiver. . . they're a roadblock, but you can simply offroad for a little bit and get right back on track. We're also very excited to see API built-out to key eComm partners, which has been on and off in the works for some time. In these instances there seems to be complexity and internal issues at the eCommerce partner - they don't have proper documentation for InRiver to take the ball forward. **Recommendations to others considering Inriver:** If you're on the journey to eCommerce, or simplification of your product data - absolutely make the investment in a PIM platform. InRiver is a fantastic solution at a great value. **What problems is Inriver solving and how is that benefiting you?** We are leveraging PIM to combine ERP product data, with enhanced product data. By investing in Syndicate, we are also leveraging the platform to syndicate our data to our customers, by creating customized formats required by our customers. This has saved us significant amounts of time, and allows us to provide more customers with product data, more frequently. We're also leveraging Plan & Release to track what customers have been provided what skus, and what skus they have utilized the data for. We're able to better manage our product lifecycle with customers, and the system enables us to beter review and improve our product data. The difference between having and not having InRiver has been night and day. ### 19. I have been involved in more than 20 implementations, also in very complex Nordic level projects, and inRiver fits perfectly for all customers. The flexible data model is one of the most significant advantages of inRiver. It is very easy to change if needed. Also the workflow capabilities and product completeness level rules allow having very cool and modern ways to work with the solution. Automatization can be very high if needed, which eases the organization's workload a lot. inRiver community works well and offers different partners and clients to collaborate to create better ways of working. inRiver is frequently launching new features to its solution and they are easy to take into use. One of the most popular features is Syndicate-module which makes it possible to access market places, like Amazon, easily. **What do you dislike about Inriver?** Well it is very hard to find anything that I dislike in inRiver. But I would say that those unliked features or limitations are on the technical side and they do not show to the end user which is good. And I have learned to cope with the limitations so they do not bother anymore. **What problems is Inriver solving and how is that benefiting you?** This list could be too long, but generally, the companies are seeking for good overall PIM solution by which they can use to cover all of the PIM needs that they have in all different channels. So PIM is used to manage all product information globally to feed the right information to the right channel in correct format. Organizations are also looking for automation tool to ease their manual product processes, and inRiver is very good at that. I have realized that inRiver is not just technically advanced tool to cover PIM needs but it is a business accelerator at its best. inRiver provides so many cool features to enhance business that there are no limits discovering new ways to use it. ### 25. The Marketing Model for your product data is highly flexible so you don't have to enrich the same information twice. You can have as many product levels as you need, you can also have sibling (on the side) information such as Brands, Fabrics, Technology, etc... that are applicable to many of your products so you don't have to copy product information on several places. If you wish to have a custom interface for specific needs that the native portal doesn't provide, you can leverage "HTML Templates" and create your own. Also, you can create as many imports/exports as you need by leveraging "Extensions". Important mention that inRiver is a pure SaaS and you don't have to bother with hosting and software version upgrades, it's all done by inRiver. Finally, inRiver is highly extensible and you can do whatever you need, but keep in mind that these customizations need developments from your inRiver partner. It's a good idea to do an internal assessment of your need before selecting the PIM solution. **What do you dislike about Inriver?** I always said that inRiver's strength is also his weakness. By allowing the Marketing Model to be flexible, it could be hard to even impossible to use inRiver's native features, such as "Excel import/export", Content Store, Syndicate app, Supplier onboarding/Contribute, etc... So as I said above, if you were sold to use one of these native features but your complex model prevents you from using it without customization and you don't have the budget for this, it could be a really bad surprise or even a roadblock.
