## About Inkscape
Inkscape is a free and open-source vector graphics editor available for GNU/Linux, Windows, and macOS. It is widely used for creating both artistic and technical illustrations, including cartoons, clip art, logos, typography, diagrams, and flowcharts. By utilizing vector graphics, Inkscape ensures sharp printouts and renderings at any resolution, unlike raster graphics that are limited by pixel count. The software employs the standardized Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) file format as its primary format, which is supported by many other applications, including web browsers. Key Features and Functionality: - Object Creation: Inkscape offers a variety of tools for drawing and shaping objects, such as the Pencil tool for freehand drawing, the Pen tool for creating Bézier curves and straight lines, and the Calligraphy tool for producing filled paths that mimic calligraphic strokes. It also includes shape tools for rectangles, ellipses, stars, polygons, and spirals. - Object Manipulation: Users can perform transformations like moving, scaling, rotating, and skewing objects both interactively and by specifying exact numeric values. Inkscape supports grouping objects, layering, and aligning and distributing objects for precise design control. - Text Support: The software provides a comprehensive text tool that allows for multi-line text, full on-canvas editing, and the ability to flow text along a path or into a shape. Users can adjust font, spacing, kerning, and more. - File Format Compatibility: Inkscape can import and export various file formats, including SVG, AI, EPS, PDF, PS, and PNG, facilitating interoperability with other graphic design tools. - Extensibility: Designed to be extensible, Inkscape allows users to customize its functionality with add-ons, enhancing its capabilities to meet specific needs. Primary Value and User Solutions: Inkscape provides a powerful, free alternative to proprietary vector graphics editors, enabling users to create high-quality illustrations without financial barriers. Its support for the SVG standard ensures compatibility and ease of sharing across different platforms and applications. The software's comprehensive feature set, combined with its user-friendly interface and multi-lingual support, makes it accessible to a broad audience, from beginners to professional designers. ### 3. A cheap solution if you don't have the funds for Adobe Illustrator

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Alan H. | Customer Service, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 04, 2019

**What do you like best about Inkscape?**

I like that Inkscape is free and that makes it an excellent tool if you don't have the funds to purchase a licence for Adobe Illustrator.

**What do you dislike about Inkscape?**

I have found that the typography tools in Inkscape aren't as good as those tools in Adobe Illustrator, but they are still pretty good.

**Recommendations to others considering Inkscape:**

Free

**What problems is Inkscape solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have used Inkscape in situations where I don't have a licence for the expensive Adobe Illustrator. It has the equivalent tools for everything I have needed, so it works fine and is suitable for creating any kind of document. I have found that the typography tools aren't quite as good, but this is only relevant if you need precise typography.

 ### 4. Illustrator free

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** John R. | Designer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 24, 2019

**What do you like best about Inkscape?**

The figures look very good and is the only software you can use for free, since you can design images / vector figures (that means that even when you zoom, the object will have the same quality, so there will be no pixelized images). This is an open source product that comes with free use capacity. It means a lot to all users around the world for testing purposes and to know the graphics software. A very easy interface (easy to use) with good feature control.

**What do you dislike about Inkscape?**

It has some problems, like any free software. The most worrying thing about this is that it does not have the Pantone palette, so it may have some compatibility problems. The program is not so intuitive to use and, for me, it had a steep learning curve. I often had to look for tutorials to achieve what I had to do.

**Recommendations to others considering Inkscape:**

It provides an easy solution for people who are not willing to shell out large amounts of money for professional editing software, but from time to time they have needs such as manipulating Photoshop files.

**What problems is Inkscape solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have used Inkscape for some laser cutting projects. It's great to create fast vectors and it does not consume too much power from my laptop. It is great for many things, such as text designs, logos and other works. The program is free to use, which is a great advantage for those who do not want to buy high-end or expensive products to create.

 ### 5. good open source program

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Fernando G. | vendedor de programas c++, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 22, 2019

**What do you like best about Inkscape?**

I utilize two working frameworks and for both I utilized Inkscape on the grounds that it is multi working framework. Another too significant point is to be free and have a solid and dynamic network. I don't utilize it expertly, however in some cases I have to change a few things in realistic records that we get in CorelDraw and on the grounds that we don't have permit and would prefer not to privateer we use Inkscape as the device to complete these exercises.

**What do you dislike about Inkscape?**

A few text styles that are utilized by the showcasing organization to make human expressions in CorelDraw or in other realistic arrangements what amount do I endeavor to open in Inkscape have certain typography issues. Also, some of the time I get lost inside the beds.

**What problems is Inkscape solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We don't have to purchase the utilization permit for CorelDraw or Adobe Ilustration since the records got from these organizations by the showcasing organization are done in them, when we have to change something, straightforward, we use Inkscape, along these lines we stay away from robbery and save money on licenses.

 ### 6. Best vector editor to work natively with SVG files

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Tom L. | Print Operator, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 01, 2019

I think there are few were users, so the online support is a little bit less than Adobe illustrator.

**What problems is Inkscape solving and how is that benefiting you?**

 ### 10. Inkscape is a great open source application for working with vector graphics

I use this format when I want to export a vector graphic and use it on a web site, as it provides a small file size and superior quality to bitmap graphics.

 ### 11. A free vector editor with great support

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Frankie P. | Content Management, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 30, 2019

**What do you like best about Inkscape?**

I like that Inkscape is supported by lots of volunteers who will quickly answer any question you have in the forum. This is great as Adobe Illustrator didn't really have any support.

**What do you dislike about Inkscape?**

The tools are a little different from Adobe Illustrator, so I had to re-learn where the tools I need are, but once I got into it, it was easy.

**What problems is Inkscape solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I switched to Inkscape from Adobe Illustrator, and it is now my main software program to create vector graphics with. I create graphics for web sites, and sometimes for print, and I am skilled with vector graphics editing. The benefits that I have realized from switching to Inkscape is saving a significant amount of money, and having a community forum to support me when I have problems.

 ### 12. inkscape

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** PABLO A. | Técnico de redes y microsistemas informáticos., Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 24, 2018

**What do you like best about Inkscape?**

Inkscape is a free, open-source tool aimed at helping us edit vector image files. The process is simple and quick, allowing us to achieve the solution envisioned in our minds precisely. Afterwards, it is very easy to change the colors of the created design, add shadows or highlights, and change the background to transparent or different colors.

**What do you dislike about Inkscape?**

The interface, although simple, is not as user-friendly as in other similar tools. I also don't like that some of the tools are on each side of the screen and that there is no quick guide. The collapse of the side palettes is a bit small and the floating tool palette cannot be reconfigured. The 3D Boxes tool seems a bit sophisticated and there is no PMS color support.

**Recommendations to others considering Inkscape:**

Highly recommended for creating your vector drawings for free and relatively easily.

**What problems is Inkscape solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Inkscape is used in our center to create posters, logos, or simple attractive and personal creations to print later and advertise the events held in our company. The fact that it is free and easy to use is a huge advantage for us.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Rupert C. | Digital Media Assistant, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 26, 2019

**What do you like best about Inkscape?**

I like that Inkscape is free, so that it does not cost any money to get a licence to use it, and that it is open source to I could contribute to the source code if I had an idea for an improvement.

**What do you dislike about Inkscape?**

It doesn't work very well with very complicated graphics, and freezes up regularly when working with large files.

**Recommendations to others considering Inkscape:**

It is free.

**What problems is Inkscape solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have been using Inkscape when making vector graphics, as I do not have Adobe Illustrator due to the cost. I am able to still work with vector graphics, and edit them. The tools are a little different, and the menu options are in different places, but it works just as well. It just takes a little adjustment and has saved some money.

 ### 14. Great software to incorperate with other editing tools

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Health, Wellness and Fitness | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 02, 2019

**What do you like best about Inkscape?**

Inkscape is very good at being a vector graphics editor. Awesome tool for creating charts and diagrams and surprisingly easy to learn for a free software.

**What do you dislike about Inkscape?**

It is not a stand alone editing tool, which requires the user to learn other tools and software depending on the project.

**Recommendations to others considering Inkscape:**

Worth having and learning to anyone in academia or business.

**What problems is Inkscape solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Loving being able to make quality figures and diagrams for either academic presentations or papers. Great that its free!

 ### 15. Free Vector Art Program with some Bitmap Features and Excellent SVG Support

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Aleksander K. | Print Operator, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**What do you like best about Inkscape?**

I most like that Inkscape has excellent SVG features, which makes working with web graphics easier and more effective with small file size with perfect quality with any scaling factor.

**What do you dislike about Inkscape?**

What I dislike about Inkscape is that the toolbox and menus are very different to Adobe Illustrator, so I can not reuse my knowledge that I already have.

**Recommendations to others considering Inkscape:**

Free

**What problems is Inkscape solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Inkscape to create vector graphics, that I save as SVG graphics. I use SVG graphics as they have the benefit of having small file sizes on the web, and can be scaled with perfect quality. They also display at excellent quality with Retina displays (iPad etc.) without any special treatment.

 ### 16. Best Open Source Vector Graphics Software

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Consumer Goods | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 03, 2019

**What do you like best about Inkscape?**

Nothing beats a free open source software that gets the work done. Apart from the fact that this is open source, its very intuitive to use. Very easy to use. Creating vector images out of bitmap is supper simple with Inkscape, and creating 2D graphics cants be any simpler without the extra overhead cost of buying Illustrator software.

**What do you dislike about Inkscape?**

The job standard is the Illustrator, but Inkscape does not AI files. Also, exporting is only possible as .;png, no to ther formats, and thats a big down side for me.

**Recommendations to others considering Inkscape:**

Even though there some basic drawbacks compared to premium softwares, Inkscape gets the job done especially for beginners who cannot aford the high cost of premium softwares and interested in getting their jobs done.

**What problems is Inkscape solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Creating 2D images and converting bitmap images to vectored images.

 ### 17. Versatile Vector Graphics Tool

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 27, 2019

**What do you like best about Inkscape?**

Producing Vector images, option to export to several formats. Producing layered images and editing the same for our usage purpose. Conversion of raster to vector. Mainly for printing domain as well as for Laser printing domain. Since vectors are not madeup of pixels, so they wont get pixel'ated. Editing vector images..

**What do you dislike about Inkscape?**

Vast number of features. Vector drawing and editing is not an easy task in general. It requires some design skill..

**Recommendations to others considering Inkscape:**

I will recommend to everyone like printers, canvas editor builder, laser applications, 3D Printers.

**What problems is Inkscape solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Export to Vector, for printing domain, export to EPS,SVG We use it for all our part of web2print canvas editor.projects. Can integrate Inkscape API, And also converting from raster to vector images. Also using it for layered images building. Integrating with the JSON Exported canvas data being passed to Inkscape API For high quality vector images production for printing and laser domain. Also for Producing Vector documents building. We also use it for Vector based logo's creation.

 ### 18. I don't know if I love it or hate it.

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Lais R. | Graphic Designer, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 10, 2019

**What do you like best about Inkscape?**

I'll start with the main appeal that got my attention: it's open-source and free. I also like how the pen tool works, it only shows the outline and will show the complete path filled or just the stroke when you finish the path, and this is helpful when creating lines without depending on the stroke, space bar let me move around the canvas easily even when using a notebook's trackpad, the message box showing the information about your actions.

**What do you dislike about Inkscape?**

Default hotkeys are a mess; you can't edit a placed anchor point without finishing the path and changing tool and confusing GUI.

**Recommendations to others considering Inkscape:**

If you already have experience with other vector tools, your initial experience with Inkscape may be an unpleasant one, but this doesn't mean it's unusable, you'll need to search for a few tutorials to get more familiar with the tool, so it' up to you if you want to invest time learning how to use it. I believe it's worth to have Inkscape installed, but don't rely on it as your main tool but as help when you are in a pinch or to learn how to work with vectors.

**What problems is Inkscape solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Inkscape is my emergency tool to create line arts, and the final product is done using other programs.

 ### 19. I love this software

Selecting colors from row and SHIFT key for alternative colors. Wish there was a color wheel, like in Paint.net raster graphics software.

**What problems is Inkscape solving and how is that benefiting you?**

~ 16 Mb SVG file, while selecting elements Inkscape hangs despite the task manager shows that Inkscape.exe is utilizing 7,6% of CPU (AMD RYZEN 7, 1700, 3Ghz and only 303 Mb or RAM out of 8 Gb. Can you use more resources so that no hangs are happening?

**What do you dislike about Inkscape?**

Not necessarily intuitive, unless you have experience with Illustrator. They do offer training videos, but you should still have some experience to use.

**Recommendations to others considering Inkscape:**

Go for it. If there is anything you don't like, you can always go back to the programs you were previously working with, but I doubt you will!

**What problems is Inkscape solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We do a lot of social media advertising, using backgrounds and product images. Using the PNG function is awesome once you get use to the tools. We are able to add images and graphics to all of our designs.

Inkscape allows anyone to design fantastic graphics on a budget! There is a little bit of a learning curve, but that's to be expected with any software. Strongly recommend this product!

**What do you dislike about Inkscape?**

Really don't dislike anything about this software. It's great, right out-of-the-box!

**What problems is Inkscape solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I was able to create realistic interactive images for electrical diagrams using Inkscape.

**What do you dislike about Inkscape?**

It is not as user friendly or simple as a software such as paint.net

**Recommendations to others considering Inkscape:**

Makes sure you start with a tutorial rather than diving right in.

**What problems is Inkscape solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I needed a system to work with SVG files and create interactive images. This software worked great and allowed me to create images with electrical points that could be recognized by electrical diagram software.

 ### 34. Inkscape Review

**Reviewed by:** Chris S. | Systems Administrator, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**What do you like best about Inkscape?**

Crystal clear graphics, and will import many many file types such as Corel Draw Adobe Illustrator, GIMP, AutoCAD, SVG etc

**What do you dislike about Inkscape?**

Loads extremely slow. I am unsure of all the resources this software requires but it is intense.

**Recommendations to others considering Inkscape:**

**What problems is Inkscape solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have a floor plan of our 2 buildings mapped out with all workstation locations, fire alarm locations, door locations, RF transmitter locations, fire panel locations, fire extinguisher locations, etc

 ### 35. Inkscape is the best alternative to illustrator

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Apparel & Fashion | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 25, 2019

**What do you like best about Inkscape?**

I like how Inkscape is free and is still a really powerful design software. I learned new stuff that I didn't learn on illustrator using Inkscape.

**What do you dislike about Inkscape?**

I like how you can't just fill in objects with just a click of a color you have to use the paint bucket. It's kind of laggy and slow. Very outdated and old looking. Printing and scanning is super hard to get it right on the paper. Sometimes it's on the side of the paper. You really have to know your measurements unlike illustrator.

**Recommendations to others considering Inkscape:**

You get what you pay for. I would rather have it than not.

**What problems is Inkscape solving and how is that benefiting you?**

product designs

 ### 36. Don't get too comfortable

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Marc W. | Account Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 19, 2018

**What do you like best about Inkscape?**

Inkscape is open source, free, and easy to use from the get go. It allows you to learn the basics of vector design without the complicated interface of Adobe products, and did I mention it's FREE!? It's great if you're just designing a logo here or there, and will give you most of the tools you need to do simple jobs effectively. The image trace is one of the best I've used, which is where this really sets itself apart.

**What do you dislike about Inkscape?**

It has a tendency to freeze on large projects, doesn't export to industry standard file types such as .ai, and therefore sending to a client can be difficult, especially if they'd like to make edits of their own. Additionally, while it's easy to use, setting it up is difficult as you technically have to download two separate applications to make it run on a Mac (I'm unsure whether or not this is required on Windows machines). This makes it somewhat clunky to just get up and go with, but I'll reiterate that it IS easy to use once you have everything downloaded and started up.

**Recommendations to others considering Inkscape:**

If you are designer doing lot of digital graphics, this program might not be what you're looking for, but if you're just learning vector graphics, or just need something for projects here and there, this might just be the perfect fit!

**What problems is Inkscape solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It allowed me to create simple designs instead of relying on outsourced design partners, which quickened response time without costing any extra money. This gave us a leg up, allowing quick turnarounds and in some cases, same day sales, with customers for whom timeline was a major issue.

**What do you like best about Inkscape?**

I liked that there were online tutorials that taught you different skills. Once you got the hang of one skill it was transferable.

**What do you dislike about Inkscape?**

I did not like the vast complexity of the program. It takes a lot to do simple things. the process to learn is very long and a lot of time had tore dedicated because one wrong click and I could lose everything.

**Recommendations to others considering Inkscape:**

Look up lots of tutorials before and while using. It will be the easiest way to learn it.

**What problems is Inkscape solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I was using it for pictures that I couldn't find in google images for a logo. I have been able to create my own digital drawing. this solves the issue of having to hire someone else to create it for you.

**What do you like best about Inkscape?**

It's free, as a replacement to super expensive software. Has all the same features.

**What do you dislike about Inkscape?**

It's got a steep learning curve if you're new to this type of software. I was very lost for a while, and tutorials weren't really helping. I just had to get in and 'do it', before it all clicked.

**Recommendations to others considering Inkscape:**

It does everything that Illustrator does, at a much better price.

Its a free good alternative to Illustrator or Corel Draw nice to work with vector graphics, has great tools like spray gun, colour picker, and the auto trace image is sensitive, the resize option is awesome, is compatible with linux and use it for a lot of works with vectors.

Learning curve, and sometimes has random crashes, It also doesn't configure itself. Sadly you have to do that manually. but with the updates now, is more stable.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ceta M. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 13, 2018

**What do you like best about Inkscape?**

I use Inkscape primarily to turn slogans and simple designs into vector images that I can use for selling products on print on demand platforms like Redbubble and TeePublic. The process is simple and quick and there is just enough "oomph" in this software to allow me to do exactly what I want to do plus a little more. After creating my design (mostly text-based in my case) I can easily go back and change the colors from dark to light with a transparent background to work on different colored products. It was a game changer for me and I'm delighted that it was free!

**What do you dislike about Inkscape?**

I am not able to take colorful images and change them to vectors but hey, it's free and I'm able to make simple vectors, which is what I got it for. I'm not complaining.

**Recommendations to others considering Inkscape:**

There are plenty of online tutorials if you can't figure out how to do what you need to. This is excellent for a free program.

**What problems is Inkscape solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am able to make vectors from simple, one-color designs and text that is allowing me to make money on print-on-demand websites like Redbubble and TeePublic.

I love the variations of graphics. I used this software for many different things and absolutely loved it. I think it worked great for Real Estate and am sure it would work well with many companies too.

**What do you dislike about Inkscape?**

The only dislike was that it was a little confusing at start up but other than that it was great

**What problems is Inkscape solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It solved my problem by having a software that worked for me and not a software that I had to work for. If that makes sense.

Sometimes it quits on me unexpectedly. That's frustrating so remember to save often.

**Recommendations to others considering Inkscape:**

Just remember to save often in case the application quits unexpectedly. It's a little confusing at first but there's a number of free tutorials online that do a great job of explaining how to use the program. It's great for a free service!

**What problems is Inkscape solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I'm saving money instead of using PhotoShop. I'm creating cool designs and logos for customers that want something unique and tailor made.

 ### 50. Good for Simple SVG Creation

**What do you dislike about Inkscape?**

There is not a lot of support online besides other creators blogs and youtube videos.

**What problems is Inkscape solving and how is that benefiting you?**

cheap alternative to illustrator
