"PowerCenter as an on-premise integration and management tool"
3.5/5
What do you like best about Informatica PowerCenter?

PowerCenter does what it does very well. The support structure, often bemoaned in public, actually works pretty well for me. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Informatica PowerCenter?

Price. The cost associated with just implementing the core product is very large. Charging extra for management tools (in-client source control, metdata manager, etc) is untenable for my org. Management of the tool is haphazard without them; we had to "reverse-engineer" the metadata to prevent our developers from digging and digging through endless menus just to determine whether their source definitions exist already, or not.

The built-in scheduler is quite anemic and also required us to use cludgy workarounds.

Team needs to be trained up to it. That's not unique. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"The best ETL tool ever!"
5/5
What do you like best about Informatica PowerCenter?

Informatica PowerCenter is my go to solution for any ETL need. It is flexible, easy to understand and easy to maintain. It is easier to debug and absolutely simple to build any logic you have in mind. The security is very straight forward which avoids unnecessary confusions and saves time to concentrate on developing and testing the applications. The command line comes to rescue when you need to create a custom solution. Deployment groups and simple XML migration saves time and energy during migrations. The inbuilt version control saves lots of time when something is modified by mistake. The ETL templates for SCD saves time and avoids complexity by providing a simple method to implement complex SCDs. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Informatica PowerCenter?

Though the tools is reliable compared to other tools like ODI, frequent crashes, screen hang causes troubles. One notable issue is when you try to change the domain name in Informatica Workflow monitor-impossible to change! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Informatica Powercentre : A Leader in the Data Migration tools stack like no other."
5/5
What do you like best about Informatica PowerCenter?

Informatica, unlike other vendors like Oracle do not believe in 'reinventing the wheel' when it comes to enhancements: old features are backward compatible and new ones are intuitive to use to the familiar user. one of the best features of Informatica and a dream come true for most Informatica Developers and Designers is its ability to visually model the business process whose data it is trying to transform. This means process models developed in industry standard BPMN can be modelled to exact specification mappings in Informatica and with its robust debugger engine, it serves as the best visual tool to visualise each and every data transformation when you need to get those data sign-offs in complex data integrations. Hence code development is more agile and prototyping is faster and more robust.

Code Migration and Version Control in Informatica are pretty robust too and the process works out of the box with its excellent code labelling and version history system with minimal configuration! Add to this the excellent error handling capabilities of its workflow monitor and you have a data migration platform that works best for you and the business. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Informatica PowerCenter?

In the Product per se, the Informatica Powercentre suite needs a stronger ETL(Extract Transform Load) orchestration tool that is as intuitive as the Oracle Datawarehouse application console(DAC). Informatica allows orchestration of workflows to a certain extent but needs to come up with more level of control on table related tasks that speed up the ETL like dropping and recreating indexes. Informatica can do these activities by calling procedures in pre and post sql actions but the tasks are not very visibly monitored on its work flow monitor.Nevertheless, the session logs on the monitor do keep a record of these tasks.
