I have used Informatica for about two years at my previous workplace. It is the best ETL Technology I have used. Some of the features that were very helpful to me

-> Access and ability to read data from multiple sources. Name the type of source and Informatica can read it.

-> The GUI is excellently simple. High on usability if I could say.

-> The expressions are many. I have used other ETL tools and I haven't found as many data manipulation expressions as in Informatica.

-> Ease of creating and using parameters.

There was no feature that I disliked much.

Sometimes, I would feel to write a simple statement with a aggregation and the filter is all the steps to be done in Informatica necessary. Its a simple SQL Statement. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Lack of functionality compared to other tools or things that might be improved:

Lack of a possibility to do loops within informatica workflows.

Parameter files handling. The concept of using a parameter file is ok, however it would be nice to be able to dynamically set parameters during runtime. Editing the parameter file for each run is rather painful. This would be very helpful especially for development/testing phase.

It's not possible to run a single session within a worklet. Sometimes, again especially for testing/development, it's handy to just run sessions one by one. It's ok in workflows but why it's not possible within worklets ? Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

It is one of the best segments of the tools that worked. It is among the best in the market and is very well regarded by all professionals who know it. The best feature of the tool, in my opinion, is the performance. Very good with large volumes of data. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Like other tools and frameworks for integrating large volumes of data, it has a layered architecture that is not very simple for any industry analyst to begin developing with. It requires little learning time. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

It needs to incorporate more features in the Standard Edition. All Standard edition is lacking was custom built and integrated with the tool Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

The versatility is a big plus, you can basically work with any kind of structured data source: flat files, most of the databases. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Debugger option in PowerCenter designer and ease of using IPC and easy to generate SQL statements as you no need to worry in writing huge sequel statements with IPC you can do it easily and effectively. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Not much to dislike about the product except the way some of the things are arranged and organized. This is a small price to pay for the unbeatable stability and unparalleled performance. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

PowerCenter does what it does very well. The support structure, often bemoaned in public, actually works pretty well for me. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Price. The cost associated with just implementing the core product is very large. Charging extra for management tools (in-client source control, metdata manager, etc) is untenable for my org. Management of the tool is haphazard without them; we had to "reverse-engineer" the metadata to prevent our developers from digging and digging through endless menus just to determine whether their source definitions exist already, or not.

The built-in scheduler is quite anemic and also required us to use cludgy workarounds.
