If you have already invested in the Informatica platform, it is the absolute product to use. Data ingestion and prep is an excellent aspect **What do you dislike about Informatica Enterprise Data Catalog?** Needs work on the visibility of metadata management and data lineage capabilities. It is also pretty time-consuming for beginners to understand the UI and get started. **What problems is Informatica Enterprise Data Catalog solving and how is that benefiting you?** Since we deal with the analytics and data prep for AI/ML projects, it has been beneficial with the insights as well as instincts. Data integration especially cloud data integration is the best option. ### 2. The interface is straightforward to use and the metadata management piece puts into perspective all your quality and curation search needs for running data-centric operations and products. **What do you dislike about Informatica Enterprise Data Catalog?** All tools in this domain have this problem from Erwin to Microsoft to Databricks to yes Informatica too! Stop segmenting functionality for an upcharge; you lose customer attention and retention in this way. Don't add on sell for a particular type of scanning option for specific content or process. In evaluating every tool not just Informatica I found this scenario where for x development time we will build said scanner for you or in the case of Informatica there was when I was evaluating it a sort of premium versus standard which was a turn off. Not sure if this is still the case, but this was my experience. **What problems is Informatica Enterprise Data Catalog solving and how is that benefiting you?** We ended up not selecting Informatica Enterprise Data Catalog for a couple of reasons. One for the company that I was working for we were phasing out on-prem solutions and Informatica just didn't make the jump to cloud Azure services like some of our other technology partners did with us. However, I can tell you that our goal was a one stop shop to help expedite product development, reduce requests and assistance from answerable questions from a tool, and help with our data governance initiatives that we were standing up which would have eventually tied to data policy management. EDC can do all of these things and if not for us moving forward with other vendors for other solutions, then we definitely would have gone with EDC and shifted our on-prem Informatica environment to cloud along with EDC utilization. ### 3. The features seems to be unique while used this tool esp while enabled on metadata for discovery purposes. **What do you dislike about Informatica Enterprise Data Catalog?** I would expect t it should let add more flexibility while drilling down to all metadata traversal across the systems which I meant to say about their data to be available for more analysis for other teams or tools. **What problems is Informatica Enterprise Data Catalog solving and how is that benefiting you?** This tool let's us gather more insights on where the respective data is available for having such large amounts of data across our organization esp on source discovery and also enables to retrospect and collect if something really is not stored till date. ### 4. Initially the UI appears simple and still users can perform advanced filtering with the drop down options. **What do you dislike about Informatica Enterprise Data Catalog?** I think, it is still like a reference application and users still need to search and identify the responsibles and after that they would need to approach them to gain the required access by following the defined access request process or else we would need to have additional application such as data market place to request access. **What problems is Informatica Enterprise Data Catalog solving and how is that benefiting you?** Data catalog helps to collect and share metadata. So business or data users no longer need to follow up with multiple places to know if a particular data is available internally or not. ### 5. Having a data catalog helps in bringing in standardization of data elements across the IT systems. IEDC is a great tool if one is already invested in the Informatica ecosystem. ### 6. Searching the catalog can be slow even if cluster recommendations comply with Informatica's guidelines. Scanner jobs often fail even with container sizes specified as per Informatica's recommendations. The product needs more work to bring it to a more polished state. However, the potential is huge specially in cases where Informatica's other toolds are in use. **Recommendations to others considering Informatica Enterprise Data Catalog:** Infrastructure and system administration teams must be capable enough to avoid pains related to EDC's instability. The same goes for Hadoop administration team.
