For example, you've linked an object with an "On Down" command, and then you've decided to shift it to an "On Up" function. I have used other tools but didn't find it as user-friendly as this. I hope upcoming versions will be included with Android and other platforms also. One  of the problems with InduSoft is that their components are closed. So beyond setting a couple properties in the on-screen button you don't have any control over how the button sets the virtual relay. The best I can come up with is that there's a momentary communication hiccup when the user stops clicking the button and it fails to send the relay open signal. Once that virtual relay is closed, there's no explicit way to open it. When uning IWS you can use drivers to most of known PLC vendors ... FOR FREE. So all of them you have without extra paying. I created SCADA for factory collecting data from machines using Siemens, Allen Bradley, SQL databases (with use of VS scripts) and presented it on HMI. Beside I did used control external signaling devices communicating with use of MODBUS TCP presenting statuses of areas. ### 16. There's also no need for any seperate opc server as Indusoft supports any type of driver for almost any type of plc, and even with the basic runtimes it supports up to multiple drivers, letting you easaly communicate with multiple different types of plc within the same runtime. Also in 8.1 the tag integration with beckhoff plc's and S7-1500 type plc's is a fantastic tool. **What do you dislike about AVEVA Edge?** The project display scalability is not that great, and usually doesn't scale the different types of rectangles, polygons and fonts to their correct proportions. The webclient setup with IIS have since day 1 been pretty uphill, and have honestly tried to avoid these types of requests from customers as I find it to unreliable, although I haven't tried the apache possibility yet, which I'm keen on trying in the future. **Recommendations to others considering AVEVA Edge:** Easy and simple, it's just quick and easy to get a usable project out there. Considering other HMI systems the projects need to be pretty big and complex inorder to maybe use something else instead. I've used indusoft for 9 years now and have made many small projects but also big projects with massive amounts of tags with ease. I can highly recommend to give Indusoft Web Studio a try. **What problems is AVEVA Edge solving and how is that benefiting you?** Pretty much any problems that come during a project, can be overcome by the flexibility of Indusoft, if either needing to put data into a database, getting data from a database or general reporting systems. One good thing is also that to convey the actual machine to the HMI is pretty easy by the resize and move options on any type of object on screen. ### 20. For example is the BACnet driver. Not much of sample and explanation is provided. Besides, Database functionality is built in but I think there is too much configuration involved to configure it properly. **What problems is AVEVA Edge solving and how is that benefiting you?** I have tried to to solve application where it involve a web interface with a local SCADA running on a PC based. The user is able to access the SCADA thru remotely and using a smart device to oversee the whole facilities. Furthermore, it have secure viewer where one SCADA system is able to mirror and control on multiple screen. ### 22. What I like most is the ease of use, the abundance of guides and the intuitive UI which, although not that pretty, serves an industrial purpose like you expect it to. **What do you dislike about AVEVA Edge?** The last time I used indusoft, there were the occasional bugs, like the UI not refreshing like it was configured to. But nothing major. **Recommendations to others considering AVEVA Edge:** The best advice I can give is to look for guides and manuals online for any specific automation purposes. Almost all sofisticated industrial equipment will feature a way to integrate indusoft to monitor or control in one way or another. Another recommendation is to look for compatibilities with other software, I have not used this feature but during my rime with the software it seemed like a good transitional option. **What problems is AVEVA Edge solving and how is that benefiting you?** I created a UPS battery monitoring system for a paper and aluminium factory in Lebanon. They already had an indusoft control system in place and needed to add UPS monitoring to their control system. I added the integration of the monitoring using SNMP protocols and a simple UI to launch an Alarm when the batteries run low. ### 23. We use TwinCAT but the automatic tag recognition is horrible. We still have to make thousands of tags and structures manually using Excel. **What do you dislike about AVEVA Edge?** Where do I start. Updates. Moving from 7.0sp1 to 8.0 was a disaster for us. The software destroyed many of our core symbol features and was a major, major pain to fix. Indusoft was not helpful and basically made us buy our way out. Not good. The lack of real structures. Seriously, why can I have arrays in a class. This is severely limiting. The security system can have a tag in the security field. Lame. Again very limiting Can’t have symbols in symbols. Super limiting and cause architectural problems with symbol design. Lack of good graphic editing. The tools to create graphics are super basic and not very good. Group editing. Why can’t you drill down into a group easily to see what you need to edit? Many other software does this no problem. Lack of screen folder organization. I work on rather large projects and not being able to organize my screens into folder is a pain. Lack of a compiled HMI application. Transferring a HMI project is huge to a remote PC. There should be some kind of compiled version of a regular pc to push to the machine. In short I feel like I am creating an HMI with crayons. Since it is what we use I am trying my best to redevelop the HMI application in Visual studio or TC3 HMI. As soon as I can I want to ditch Indusoft. **Recommendations to others considering AVEVA Edge:** Look at other options if you are a savvy coder. There are too many limitations and bugs for it to be worth your while. **What problems is AVEVA Edge solving and how is that benefiting you?** Not many. The scripting language is Visual Basic and that makes our coding experience easier. There are many build-in graphical components and tools and we can create uniquely nice looking projects. There are also many communication drivers that are easy to configure and use. **What do you dislike about AVEVA Edge?** We are very satisfied with the product but there are some things that we dislike. The debugging experience could be better (for example the break point doesn't work very good). We encounter some instabilities in the latest versions of InduSoft Web Studio (after version 8.0). Also the Web access works only with the Internet Explorer. **What problems is AVEVA Edge solving and how is that benefiting you?** We use InduSoft Web Studio as universal SCADA solution in many industrial and building automation projects. In many cases the SCADA system must work in environment with many different devices and communications.
