We use it to resize images and transform them on our website and through emails. It's a very useful way to manipulate images that are stored within Amazon S3 buckets.The uptime is perfect, the manipulation tools are first class and the support is very good. What problems is imgix solving and how is that benefiting you? It enabled us to not worry about having to manually resize images and store them ourselves. All we had to do was maintain the image library within Amazon S3 storage buckets. Running WordPress based sites, the standard way to present images is to create a set of different 'thumbnails' - however, generating these thumbnails can add server load, and they can take a lot of storage. You also don't have a perfect image served for every screen pixel density. With imgix we're able to request perfectly sized images that - this is especially important for Design Week, where we are presenting images to a very visual audience. Support is generally excellent. To make it work really well we developed out own integration - there is a standard plugin, but it's not flexible enough for what we wanted to do. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. What do you dislike about imgix? Sometimes, very large images can be slow (1s) to be served at a new screen size/dpi combination. The principle problem solved is that of efficiently delivering images and therefore reducing exfiltration fees on S3 (an image is requested once, rather than many times) and giving predictable costs for us. I like Imgix because it's quick, easy, and hassle-free to resize images on the fly. The service is also fast and reliable, and I haven't had any issues with it being unavailable except once during Fastly unavailability in the summer of 2021. It's good value-for-money for small to medium projects and easy to set up and use. Plus, it integrates easily with any object store service I use, like S3 or Google Cloud Storage. The documentations are also good, and it has good security by allowing us to optionally sign all image URLs with a secret, which prevents abuse. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com. What do you dislike about imgix? They have flat pricing of 10 dollars per month when your sources exceed the limit for free accounts. It is not a big deal, but I wish they only charged me for what I used, which, at times, was 3$ per month. This pricing model makes it less than ideal for very small projects. Recommendations to others considering imgix: If you don't want to worry about resizing your images and double worrying about changing the sizes in the future, I think ImgIX would be an excellent choice, granted that you host your image files on the cloud. You can try it for free but beware that once you exceed the free limit, you will be charged about 10$ regardless of usage, and this may increase if you are heavy use, but I think it is still cheaper than DIY. We tried to image resizing DIY style, and it was quite a hassle and took up valuable time that we could better dedicate to focusing on the application. What problems is imgix solving and how is that benefiting you? We used Imgix to solve the problem of on-the-fly image resizing. With Imgix, we can control the size of our image files from our servers and create signed URLs, which makes it very difficult for attackers to reverse engineer our images.
