When we were utilizing Illumin, the ability to traffic creatives through Ad Tags from CM360 was one of our most utilized features. We also liked the idea of the "Journey" tool and being able to craft specific paths for users to follow. We had significant issues with pacing while maintaining a focus within our targeted audience pools. Our clients also typically run Month to Month flights which made rollover and underspend a constant issue. While we liked the idea of the "Journey/Canvas" tool, in practice the UI was difficult to manipulate. There was also no implementation of Changelogs from users which made it difficult or impossible to revert changes or find where an issue may have started from after changes were made. There was no visibility for Audience CPM fees which made it difficult to judge if an audience was worth utilizing or not. There were also very few audiences that were within our verticals. I really enjoy the unique key features of Illumin, such as real-time optimization and being able to insert social media into the campaign flow, which are game-changers and positively influence my time. What do you dislike about illumin? Its hard to use. A lot of creative vendors (Kargo) or pmp providors havnet worked with them in the past, so everything that we think is going to be easy, ends up being more complicated. It doesn't have a lot of the optimization functionality that a standard DSP would have (such as bid adjustment by ad size, bid adjustments by audience segment, etc). It doesn’t always respect some core segmentation options (a whitelist, for instance). Also, goals can only be set as budget, not impressions or clicks, and there’s no CPC model.
