After replacing my laptop with a much faster new one, I wanted a software program that could back up all of my data. Having done comprehensive research online, I decided to go with iDrive, as it was consistently coming out on top in my search results. The software was easy to install, and within a few minutes I was running a full online backup of my laptop. The 278GB file uploaded quickly, and I felt much safer knowing that my critical data was being stored securely and encrypted online. I love the fact that it is cross-platform and even supports Linux. I can connect multiple computers and smartphones to the same account to keep them backed up which I could not do with Backblaze. I really like the competitive price point of IDrive Online and SaaS Backup, Object Storage e2. It offers a cheaper alternative compared to other options like Google Drive and physical storage, especially considering the security and safety it provides. I appreciate that you can choose a server location in Ireland, which is local to the UK, or in America, which helps improve upload speeds. Upload speeds are really quick; I managed to back up over two terabytes in under six hours and was really pleased with that. I find it slightly frustrating that after backing something up on IDrive, you can't view a preview or play a video clip without downloading it first. It would be nice to have a feature similar to Google Drive where you can preview files. Also, while the setup was generally user-friendly, the user experience and design could be improved a bit. IDrive Online offers a much better value compared to Backblaze for my current needs. Even though there was a small learning curve initially when switching from Backblaze, IDrive is easy to use and works really well once you get the hang of it. As a single user backing up one computer, the lower storage option at a lower price is a great value for my needs, especially since the majority of my docs, files and pictures are automatically uploaded to either iCloud Google Drive or OneDrive, so unlimited storage offered by back blaze was something I was paying for, but not utilizing. Ease of setup and the ease to make changes such as adding or removing folders selected for backup. As a System Administrator for my job it was nice to see how easy personal backups can be. I also like the detailed notices of the backups completing when scheduled. I have that for what I use at work and it is nice to see it with IDrive as well. All told I think I was up and running within 15 minutes of downloading the product. The upload time was really very good. Nearly full internet speeds on my uploads and there was no delay in processing. I set it up for continuous nightly backups and have seen that after the first one took place, I have no issue completing them within an hour of the job starting. I have not noticed a single downside with the IDrive product. I know there is a limit to the space I can use for the tier I purchased. I came from Carbonite after being there for more than 10 years. I found that while Unlimited backups sound good in theory actually getting your data back is the next issue. If what I have seen so far I doubt that will be an issue with IDrive.
