We have reached around 91gigs throughput in normal days and around 140 gig throughput during holidays in December. we were worried initially about the performance but the IBM has kept the promise and we are sleeping peacefully during these high I/O times. **What do you dislike about IBM Storage FlashSystem?** Everything is smooth after the installation of the array. To add your IBM box to the existing fabric it needs a visit from a vendor. They need to install a extension for iSCSI, Later on its butter smooth Storage management. I like to quote its a wonderful unit from IBM. It auto tires the data from one storage array to other. U have to just give the Maximum I/Os. we have done a migration of data from a legacy HP EVA to IBM. Migration is supercool and hassle free. Coming to data reduction, IBM has developed DRP compression and deduplication in a very advanced way, It saves your storage to a great extent. We are using a on premise storage as of now and in coming feb 2021, we are planning to have this IBM for cloud applications. **What problems is IBM Storage FlashSystem solving and how is that benefiting you?** I am solving issues like high iops, high bandwidth bandwidth and hardware replacement. High IOPs is just a minor issue, as we are not using dynamic tiering for now. We are doing it manually, so the high IOPs is a general issue because of our highly varying data flow. apart from that we faced hardware failures(only disks and a fan as of now), which is inevitable in a unpredictable datacenter environment. We are now planning to avoid the high IOPs issue by automating dynamic tiering. ### 13. This can make SAN zoning quite difficult, as the physical WWPNs assigned to each port do not allow host traffic to flow through them. Instead, the virtual WWPNs must be zoned in the SAN switch and not the actual WWPNs that show up when you mouse over the port in the GUI. When backed behind SVC presentation, the proposition for Tiering and things like global mirroring easy makes it simply amazing. **What do you dislike about IBM Storage FlashSystem?** Unfortunately large block reqs (somehwhat common in MSSQL for example at 64k or larger) is not nearly as performant and the touted IOPS ability is based on very small block sizes. Larger extends seems to slow it down significantly of which a few other providers out perform based on some internal tests our company has done. **Recommendations to others considering IBM Storage FlashSystem:** Assure your aligning your block size of your most critical workloads with the spec sheets or testing in a POC environment as the touted specs are based on small IO. It allowed a client to reduce the core count which drove reduced software licensing reducing the overall cost of the solution while going beyond the performance requirements. I love the online firmware update and have used it in in production while the manufacturing line was running full tilt and no impact was observed. **What do you dislike about IBM Storage FlashSystem?** The storage features are only OK but once you add StorWize as a virtualization front end it enables all the bells and whistles that are expected. The inflexiblity of the raid arrays and and adding storage requires lots of upfront planning. Do not size capacity close to the limit or you will end up adding additional storage in the near future. The FS900 is a solid product but it is not general purpose storage. I did received a gift card as a thank you for completing the review. By using the FlashSystem 9100, we were able to stay within the same footprint while drastically increasing performance and lowering environmental requirements.
