"Good solution for custom reporting with mix IBM Rational data"

What do you like best?

RPE helps to create different document-style reports with data from Jazz tools and third-party tools and support most popular formats like PDF, HTML, Word, Excel, or XSL.

RPE has Eclipse-based IDE so in most cases you will not need to learn new UI.

RPE is supported with Jazz.net - very useful user community including developers of Rational Publishing Engine itself.

What do you dislike?

It's not a easy tool and you need some time for studding before you can start work and can create that reports which you need.

Integration with third-party tools depends on many factors and you need to check it with each update to new version of tool.

I don't like IBM technical support in case you need to promote any feature or bug fix important to you. They usually have different priorities and you rarely get solution in nearest fix or release.

Recommendations to others considering the product

RPE provides best value for reporting onmixed data from different Jazz tools. And you should like Eclipse UI to work with RPE

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

We implemented Rational CLM for big customer and have many different requirements for reporting from different departments and business owners. We can't satisfy all these with built-in reporting for CLM.

With RPE we provided most complex solution with custom reports in different output formats.

"IBM rational publishing review. Recommended"

What do you like best?

I live the ease and variety of tools you can use with IBM rational. I can also save to multiple formats that are helpful for variety on which format a client prefers. One of my favourite features is how I can extract data to not only save me time but increase accuracy.

What do you dislike?

I really like the software but if I was to pick something I dislike it would have to be the numerous pull down menus. It can be hard to find thing at first.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Any variance in sales that we can run reports on. The benefits are the organization of data and variability of formats to choose from.

"Great for generating custom reports"

What do you like best?

Definitely the customization; there are many a number of ways to represent information from Rational Rhapsody/DOORs, and RPE is a good tool to produce reports that are not necessarily found out of the box.

What do you dislike?

A pretty steep learning curve, definitely not for beginners.

What business problems are you solving with the product? What benefits have you realized?

Used RPE for a Rational Rhapsody integration project; we used RPE to generate reports that were used for use case authors/customer review. As mentioned before, it is very powerful and you can customize pretty much everything.
