"A streamlined and effective approach to tracking and debugging."
5/5
What do you like best about IBM Instana?

One thing I really like about Instana is how quickly you can get insights without a ton of setup. The interface is straightforward, and it’s easy to follow what's going on across different services. For us, it's been really helpful during debugging, you can trace the calls, check the logs, and see where something might be going wrong. I also like how, during load testing, you can actually watch the server handle requests in real time and get a clear view of how many are succeeding or failing. It just makes troubleshooting a lot more efficient. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about IBM Instana?

There isn’t much to complain about, especially since the high CPU usage issue has improved quite a bit recently. That used to be a challenge during debugging and load testing, but it’s been much better lately. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Instana! RealTime Insights Done Right"
4.5/5
What do you like best about IBM Instana?

What I like best about IBM Instana is how effortless it makes monitoring complex applications. The automatic discovery of services and dependencies saves a ton of setup time, and I don’t have to manually configure dashboards, it just maps everything out for me. The real-time visibility is also a big win; if something goes wrong, I can quickly trace the root cause without digging through endless logs. It feels very modern compared to traditional APM tools, and the UI makes it easy to navigate even when the environment is huge. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about IBM Instana?

there’s a lot of data and metrics, and the learning curve is steeper than some lighter monitoring tools. The pricing can also be on the higher side if you’re running it across many services. In some cases, the UI feels a bit busy, and it takes time to tune alerts so they’re meaningful and not just noise. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Great for Complex Environments, but Pricey and a Bit Overwhelming"
3.5/5
What do you like best about IBM Instana?

I like how Instana automatically discovers services and dependencies in real time without much manual setup. The one-second granularity metrics and full end-to-end tracing give deep visibility into complex systems which helps in quickly finding bottlenecks and resolving issues. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about IBM Instana?

The pricing feels high for smaller teams and the UI can be overwhelming at first. Some integrations with less common tools are limited which makes it harder to connect everything smoothly without extra work. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Powerful Tool"
4.5/5
What do you like best about IBM Instana?

IBM Instana is a potent APM tool designed for contemporary cloud-native systems, particularly Kubernetes microservices. With its strong root cause analysis, 1-second metric granularity, and automatic service discovery, it excels at assisting teams in identifying and resolving problems more quickly. On the other hand, it is not inexpensive, the user interface may initially seem overwhelming, and the alerting system requires some fine-tuning to prevent noise. Consider Instana to be the "Ferrari of monitoring" in general. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about IBM Instana?

I don't like IBM Instana because it can be costly for smaller teams, the user interface is complicated and not very intuitive for beginners, and the setup and documentation occasionally call for additional work or assistance. In contrast to competitors, the agent lacks robust built-in log management and automation features, can be resource-intensive, and occasionally experiences stability problems due to automatic updates. These shortcomings, when coupled with sluggish or erratic support, make it less desirable if you're searching for a portable, all-in-one monitoring solution. 3.5/5
What do you like best about IBM Instana?

- event detection and related automation policies (custom) do catch faults and address them very quickly Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about IBM Instana?

Working on Instana for IBMi specifically, you can clearly tell that as far as IBMi is concerned there's still a long way to go in terms of what can be added or improved.

What you get directly from the installation is good for having a very basic monitoring, although when things get into details you can tell that it's in early stages.

IBMi is indeed special so it might require a different approach compared to other installations, although i'm sure that there will be improvements.

Unfortunately i can't tell for other platforms.. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about IBM Instana?

Instana is easy to set up and quickly gives clear insights with a simple interface. It's great for debugging, as you can trace calls, check logs, and spot issues fast. During load testing, real-time request tracking helps a lot. It’s reliable, easy to use, integrates well, and the support from IBM is excellent—I use it daily and it always delivers. What do you dislike about IBM Instana?

At first, we had some trouble using Instana, but once we got familiar with it, it became very easy to use. I don't really have any dislikes to mention—it's definitely worth trying, especially for your first project. The high CPU usage used to be a challenge during debugging and load testing, but that has improved a lot recently, making the overall experience much smoother.
