"Robust Reporting, Dashboards, and Security in One Platform"
4/5
What do you like best about IBM Cognos Analytics?

I like IBM Cognos Analytics because it combines reporting, dashboards, and ad hoc analysis into a single platform. The interface makes it pretty easy to create and schedule reports, and the self-service capabilities mean users can explore data without needing a lot of help from technical teams. I also appreciate the strong governance and security features, which are really important in enterprise environments. Being able to automate report distribution and give consistent, reliable insights to stakeholders saves time and cuts down on manual work. It helps turn big amounts of data into useful information that supports better business decisions. The reporting capabilities help automate report creation and distribution, which saves manual data compilation, ensuring stakeholders get accurate info on time. Scheduled reports and dashboard functionalities are especially useful for keeping everyone updated consistently. Ad hoc analysis really empowers users to be more independent and agile in exploring data. Plus, the security and governance features ensure only authorized users have access to sensitive information, which is crucial in a big company setting. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about IBM Cognos Analytics?

While IBM Cognos Analytics is a powerful platform, there are a few areas that could be improved. The initial setup and administration can be complex, particularly for organizations without dedicated Cognos expertise. Some advanced reporting and modeling tasks also have a steeper learning curve for new users. In addition, certain report development activities can feel less intuitive compared to newer business intelligence tools, and creating highly customized visualizations may require more effort. Performance can sometimes be impacted when working with very large datasets or complex reports if the underlying infrastructure and data models are not optimized. Finally, licensing and overall cost may be a consideration for smaller organizations. Enhancements to the user experience, more modern visualization options, and simplified administration would make the platform even more accessible and efficient for a broader range of users. What do you dislike about IBM Cognos Analytics?

The performance takes a hit when working with large volumes of data, which has been a consistent pain point. The initial learning curve is steeper than most tools we've used, and onboarding team members always takes longer than expected. Feature updates are also slower compared to some newer BI tools in the market, which sometimes makes the platform feel a bit behind on the innovation side. The initial setup was not easy and required dedicated involvement from our server and infrastructure team. Configuring data source connections, setting up user roles, and managing access permissions were complex tasks. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
