The best thing about IBM Cloudant is the peace of mind that comes from knowing that our data is safe, geographically near where it will be accessed, and is being professionally maintained/monitored by qualified data engineers who know their stuff and who can alert you to any issues that arise. What problems is IBM Cloudant solving and how is that benefiting you? IBM Cloudant was my first exposure to using a non-relational database as a service (DBaaS). My experience with non-SQL data storage, structuring, manipulation and retrieval was very limited at that time, and I wasn’t sure about “outsourcing” our sensitive data. I found Cloudant easy to use. The one thing that I personally noticed about Cloudant is its not only a best choice for a NoSQL database but also an ideal fit for applications that handles geo-coordinates. One thing which I didn't like was that anyone with the credentials could make changes to the database. Cloudant allows me to access my data from mobile and web apps without having load database drivers or create CRUD APIs. It can be provisioned and up and running in minutes and modified with ease. You can very easily change the data structures and information captured. The addition over CouchDB of GeoJSON makes visualizing the data on a map very simple. What do you dislike about IBM Cloudant? Since it is NoSQL, a relational background can be a detriment. Moving from SQL queries, tables and columns to documents in a repository can be jarring. Integration with things like pouchDB for offline storage and sync makes creating offline ready web apps very simple. GeoJSON is a great addition over couchDB, since it has quick default views of data points on a map. Views and queries can be a bit complex to set up originally. There is a learning curve when coming from a relational db background. Lack of good code, index, query examples on the IBM site.
