What do you like best about IBM Cloud Virtual Servers?

Attempted to utilize the IBM Bluemix Weather service to get pinpoint weather forecasts. The data is accurate and the web API is straightforward to use. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about IBM Cloud Virtual Servers?

Incredibly poor SLA, incompetent customer service and glacially slow response time to multiple issues. Their service routinely return 401/Unauthorized errors, crippling my app at times. They finally acknowledged the issue was on their side the first time it happened - after 20 days.

It occurred again 3 months later, again crippling my service. No response from support until I kept pestering and escalating. No response on root cause after another 18 days. They either don't care, are incompetent, or both. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering IBM Cloud Virtual Servers:

Run away. The internal management and support portals are a mess. They don't have reliable SLA's for their service and they're trying to find their way ten years too late. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is IBM Cloud Virtual Servers solving and how is that benefiting you?

Utilizing the service to provide pinpoint outdoor weather forecasts for the outdoor industry...when the BlueMix service is working. The service is so unreliable and the support is so poor I'm actively looking for alternatives. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about IBM Cloud Virtual Servers?

Bluemix uses a PaaS (Platform as a Service) model rather than the typical IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service) model like Amazon Web Services. The big difference here is that with other IaaS providers, you are configuring the infrastructure with virtual hardware specifications, such as processor type, memory, hard drive, and network connects, where PaaS has you setup the platform that you will run on your software, such as programming environments, Databases used, Clustering, and so forth, meaning that you are ready to develop or operate your software out of the box Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about IBM Cloud Virtual Servers?

The reliability is 99% and not 100%, and is heavily geared for developers, which means that I wouldn't use BlueMix as my only production environment. It can also get a little overwhelming, especially when you get into Watson and the Beta services. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

If you are looking for a solid production environment, then this might not be the best option for you, and also make sure that any devops running off of bluemix takes into account the potential for vendor lock-in if they utilize too many BlueMix services. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is IBM Cloud Virtual Servers solving and how is that benefiting you?

I am able to deploy a a ready to use development platform with literally a few clicks, and literally, quicker than writing this review. This saves a lot of money and time, rather than building out a virtual machine, installing an OS, then setting up an environment, and having to track down any errors I get that could be at any level of my server, Bluemix is just ready to go and work for you. It has the normal everyday could services one would expect (i.e. virtual machines, mysql, mongodb) but there are some truly unique ones centered around cognitive computing such as Personality Insights or Dialog. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about IBM Cloud Virtual Servers?

Their documentation is good, not GREAT, but what makes things a little confusing is their demo apps. Their demo apps are really all over the place, using java, nodejs, and a bunch of different frameworks. If you are a java developer you'll have to make sense of a nodejs example because there isn't a java one, for example. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

The product is new. Cloud Foundry is a brilliant new solution to new things, IBM of course, doesn't make these things. It just implements them. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

IBM cancelled my account without telling me why. Their service sucks. It has all the same reasons why people hate IBM. If I can't get good service on my free account, that doesn't bode well for the paid account being better. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Recommendations to others considering IBM Cloud Virtual Servers:

Use something else. Bluemix is, at best, unreliable and at worst actively tries to cause downtime. It deactivated my account, without explanation or warning, and took down a good number of apps that we were using with it. This is actively causing harm. It's not bad support, it's actively causing harm.

If you use bluemix, you shouldn't use it for anything you need to ensure works. Unless IBM is basically running it all for you, don't use it. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I use it for non mission critical applications. I do not think the service and support is reliable enough to use it long term.

The frontend also takes forever to load. Heroku is much better, faster and easier.

Also they did not delete my personal account from Heroku, which bluemix did because... I am not entirely certain why.

They also deactivated my business account, even though I was using it for business applications. When I realized that happened, it became clear that this is not a service anyone should use for anything that you need to ensure works. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
