I completely understand your observations on both the learning curve and the collaboration features, we are working on modernising our collaboration capabilities this year to provide a more contemporary and easy experience when working with colleagues. In terms of learning curve, we are also looking at how we can build in the product onboarding capabilities that can help users learn all the features quickly and instinctively through ' how to's', tool tips and guided walks, best next steps etc. I'm looking forward to you experiencing some of these developments over 2025. What do you like best about IBM Blueworks Live?

Simple tool that focuses on everyday process modelling and doesn't get bogged down in competing with other technologies, keeps the total cost of ownership down and allows the users to take a steady learning curve but also leverage more advanced functionalities if needed.

As a standalone SaaS tool, that doesn't need any integration in your enterprise, but does offer secure API connectivity if you need it, it helps appease the controls and governance teams leveraging the infrastructure expertise that IBM provide. So simple to purchase and implement in the enviroment, just buy the licenses and go.

We have rolled Blueworks to 100s of users who use the tool daily and are using it to help understand the process engine of our organisation.

We very rarely need to contact the IBM after sales and support teams on the occasions we have had to the responses have been clear and timely. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about IBM Blueworks Live?

Blueworks Live has very limited interoperability with other BPMN supporting products in the marketplace, both putting things in or out. Limited ability to add metadata to the folder (space) heirarchy which means you need a separate tool or manually creating analytics of how processes intersect or are structured e.g. process owner for all processes at a given level.

Bulk editing of attributes is also rather inefficient and requires a lot of manual hand holding.

The product has recieved technical and functionality updates but really hasn't changedor expanded at all in 6+ years, so starting to look dated.

There is a relatively active community of users and IBM experts, but the ideas don't ever seem to come to the roadmap in a reasonable lenght of time. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Your review is very timely as we just had a release come out on March 30, 2024 that contains new APIs to help with your pain points. For example, we now have an API to update the activity details which will help you with the bulk editing of attributes across multiple activities and processes. We are also looking at modernization options right now and would love to collect feedback on what you’d like to see improved. What do you like best about IBM Blueworks Live?

The tool is easy to learn and implement. I was able to pick up the tool and create documents quickly with no special training or background knowledge. Lends itself well to process design projects looking at high level processes and creating initial documentation. Customer Support was helpful when I ran into roadblocks and needed assistance. What do you dislike about IBM Blueworks Live?

While it worked great for planning and that specific type of project, it was not ideal for existing processes. I wish it had worked better in reverse where I could take an existing documented process. We tried integrating with our process documentation AI tool for our documented processes and it caused rework and extra time to create the docs in Blueworks. Updates will be cumbersome.
