If you're company has a significant amount of employees, the interface slows down and becomes very unstable at times. This has caused issues when researching account activity.

Human Interest recently removed Vanguard holdings which seems to be a step in the wrong direction. Vanguard holdings are highly regarded so this seems to be a longer term benefit for Human Interest and not the user.

**What problems is Human Interest solving and how is that benefiting you?**

They provide a very simple 401k solution which at this point, I am unsure if this is a good thing.

**What do you like best about Human Interest?**

What I like most is how easy it is to use, and how Rippling automates the process.

**What do you dislike about Human Interest?**

It was challenging at first to get in touch with support because of their support-bot-first approach. When I asked the support bot a question, it gave me an incorrect answer that conflicted with legal requirements.

**What problems is Human Interest solving and how is that benefiting you?**

All the 401k compliance - it would be a nightmare to do it on my own.

  ### 15. Affordable 401k Benefits with Seamless Payroll Integration

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Charles J.

**Reviewed Date:** December 02, 2025

**What do you like best about Human Interest?**

I appreciate that Human Interest is seamlessly integrated with our payroll app, simplifying the process significantly. Once employees enroll in the 401(k) plan and make their deductions, everything is handled automatically. This automation means I only need to verify the setup through the payroll provider and our financial institution, which saves time and effort. This integration makes it incredibly easy for employees to handle their 401(k) contributions without any hassle, as everything is interconnected with their payroll deductions. From an ownership perspective, I find comfort in knowing that we are providing an affordable and efficient benefits solution for our employees, ensuring their financial well-being is taken care of.

**What do you dislike about Human Interest?**

I find Human Interest a bit challenging when it comes to understanding the employee's perspective or seeing exactly what they see. Even though the system is set up with parameters we've established, there are questions from employees that I can't always answer effectively. This limitation means we often have to direct our employees back to Human Interest for discussions directly. This approach might be ideal, but it restricts the variability and control we have over the support we can provide them as their employer.

**What problems is Human Interest solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Human Interest to offer affordable 401(k) benefits to employees, making it seamless with payroll integration, ensuring easy management and employee care without financial strain.

  ### 16. Free Solution with Setup Challenges and Cash Transfer Issues

**What do you like best about Human Interest?**

I like that Human Interest is a free solution for a 401(k) plan. It's been easy to use so far.

**What do you dislike about Human Interest?**

I didn't like that when we transferred our money over, it sat in cash for almost a month, which was very problematic. We might have to file a complaint with the SEC. Also, the initial setup was pretty cumbersome. It was kind of a pain because I had to provide so much reporting manually from Guideline, so it took a lot more of my time than I thought would be necessary.

**What problems is Human Interest solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Human Interest for my company's 401(k) for myself and my employees. It's a free solution.

Additionally, the integration with Gusto is seamless, allowing me to manage my retirement fund without needing to log into multiple accounts, as everything is automatically calculated and withdrawn, adding convenience and efficiency to the process. This hassle-free setup significantly eased my transition and underscores the user-friendliness of Human Interest. Overall, I am proud of my decision to use Human Interest and would highly recommend it to everyone, as it has been incredibly beneficial in preparing me for retirement.

**What do you dislike about Human Interest?**

I find it inconvenient that Human Interest doesn't automatically send reports by email. While I can access reports through the app, having them sent to my email would improve accessibility and convenience.

It is not seamlessly integrated with my payroll company so I have to manually input information every 2 weeks for all employees enrolled in the retirement plan

**What problems is Human Interest solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I switched to them to get away from the massive maze of people that ADP was

  ### 25. Helpful 401(k) Signup Portal, but Customization and Data Import Issues Persist

**Rating:** 1.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Warehousing | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 17, 2026

**What do you like best about Human Interest?**

The online portal and directions for completing 401K sign up

**What do you dislike about Human Interest?**

The platform is not as customized as we were sold. I can't adjust the notices I get- its either all or barely anything. Plus, the monthly tasks remain showing as if you haven't completed the review of eligible employees. I also dislike that our data import included data that we specifically had defined for not being imported and now it shows employees that are not and were not our employees.

**What problems is Human Interest solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We haven't completed the annual review yet, but that was something we were hoping was going to be better with Human Interest. We will see if that sales pitch comes through.

**Official Response from Anthony Gomes:**

> Thank you for sharing this feedback. I'm sorry to hear you've been facing around customizations. We would love to speak about your situation in more detail but we are unable to identify you. ### 43. Hands-Off Payroll Management That Frees Up My Time

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Non-Profit Organization Management | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 25, 2025

**What do you like best about Human Interest?**

That I don't have to track when an employee is eligible or input changes to their deductions. It is mostly hands-off freeing me up for my other tasks. Implementation was easy.

**What do you dislike about Human Interest?**

While it had been waiting to hear back from a representative when I had questions, that has gotten much better. I appreciate the clear answers when I need them. The only downside was that I was unaware that employees who had been auto-enrolled would see an increase to their deductions each year. While I understand that that is in the plan docs, it would have been much better to have known about that ahead of time.

I do wish there were more tools for admins to create their own reports.

**What problems is Human Interest solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I used to have to keep track of when an employee reached a certain earnings level and when reached, I had to manage all of the notification and enrollment as well as annual open enrollment - all of that has been eliminated with HI's program.

  ### 45. Excellent Setup, Fast Support, and Helpful Automated Confirmations

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Tricia A. | Executive Assistant to the Owner, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 22, 2025

**What do you like best about Human Interest?**

We are a small company, and we have found that setting up the account and communication has been excellent from the start. When we have needed support, we receive responses very quickly. The automated confirmation emails of the 401 (k) deposits are very helpful.

**What do you dislike about Human Interest?**

When the person that was handling the account for Solomar resigned, I struggled a little on how to remove her access and make me the primary contact. I reached out to CS and they immediately walked me through how to fix it.

**What problems is Human Interest solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Having Human Interest manage our 401k plan has been very helpful. As a small company, we weren't sure where to start, but they made the process very easy. Their quarterly summaries clearly summarize our portfolio, as well as the contributions, dividends, fees, etc.

  ### 46. Straightforward and Very Easy to Use, but the Price Jump Stings

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Van G. | Photographer, Photography, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 23, 2026

**What do you like best about Human Interest?**

I like how straightforward everything is - very easy to understand what I'm doing, even with very limited experience using a software like this before.

**What do you dislike about Human Interest?**

Very disappointed in the price going from $0 to $120.

**What problems is Human Interest solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Helping me invest wisely so I don't go down the rabbit hole of where to invest without prior knowledge.

  ### 47. Could be good if their limited setup happens to align with what you want.

**Rating:** 0.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kristy D. | Operations Director, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 09, 2025

**What do you like best about Human Interest?**

It's pretty affordable (especially through Gusto), and the platforms are pretty easy. They have decent support/responsiveness. It's streamlined for the HR/logistics/operations folks to get staff integrated, etc.

**What do you dislike about Human Interest?**

Limited logistics/contribution options. I spent a LOT of time going over our goals before we signed up and then what we needed to do wasn't possible. I think as many platforms and tech get "plug and play" you're dealing with staff that aren't experts in these services. The folks who onboard you aren't experts in 401k, 403b, or ROTH laws or regulations. It's like when you go to HR Block for your taxes, those folks are hired and trained in a week to just go through the motions of their platform, they have no experience in tax law. So it was disappointing to get signed up, onboard all our staff, and then realize that they can't support what we want. I believe as an employer you can only contribute a percentage of their pay or some kind of employee match. We are offering a set dollar amount that is equal for all staff, which I was clear about many times up front, and the ONLY way their platform can do that is if we make a non-elective contribution once at the end of the year. This means we miss out on a whole year of growth potential, but also can get messy if someone leaves the company within the year and wants to transfer their retirement portfolio with us to something else, and it means I have to hold onto the funds all year which leaves room for error, for not budgeting properly, etc. So it's really a problem for us. There are considerations for compliance and specifically non-descrimination testing which I tried to get guidance on ahead to see if we were setting outselves up for success and the onboarding people didn't seem to have an understanding of that and said I can't check in with the compliance people until we are already signed up. One checked someone or with someone and told me that in our circumstance we shouldn't be subject to it but I've since talked to experts who say we will be. So overall this didn't work out for us and I'm quite disappointed. When I tried to address the issue with my contacts, they basically said you signed the plan documents so you signed up for this. While that is true, the language and options in these things isn't plain English - it's technical, complicated, and legal. People hire services like this and TPW (Third Party Administrators) in general to help navigate these things and minimize exposure/mistakes because this isn't straight forward. So I'd say they failed us in that regard.

**What problems is Human Interest solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It isn't.

**Official Response from Kathy Yoo-Naut:**

> I'm sorry that your issues have not been resolved promptly, Kristy. We know your experience is important, so we've escalated your case to ensure these problems are addressed as soon as possible. Our goal is to provide effective help, and a member of our Customer Advocacy team will be following up with you to make sure we get this right. Thank you for your feedback.

  ### 48. Most user friendly 401K plans for small businesses

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ashley F. | Owner, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 09, 2025

**What do you like best about Human Interest?**

What I like the best about Human Interest is how user friendly the program is. Whether you are an admin or employee, Human Interest makes the process super easy. The implementation for Human Interest was a breeze and I felt supported throughout the process. I love that it auto enrolls staff so no one misses out on making contributions and growing their retirement fund. It easily integrates with our payroll provider (Gusto) making it essentially "hands off" and they email me after each payroll to update me with what the employee and employer contributions were so I can stay on top of it. Their customer support is outstanding and they are quick to answer questions whether you are on the admin side or the staff side. I was first introduced to Human Interest at my previous job, but loved it so much that I chose to use them for my own personal business I just opened! I will continue to use them for the foreseeable future!

**What do you dislike about Human Interest?**

There is not really anything I dislike about it. I truly love them!

**What problems is Human Interest solving and how is that benefiting you?**

They allow myself and my staff to have a retirement account. They also integrate with our payroll provider so it takes that task off my list of things to do. I don' t have to do the deductions myself each payroll. It feels very hands off. I also like that it alerts me when I need to look into something so I am not wasting time logging in when it's not neccessary.

Pricing can get expensive as more people join the plan.

**What problems is Human Interest solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Human Interest for the administration of our company's 401k plan. It's easy to use, taking care of everything, and integrates with our payroll provider. They offer a good selection of funds, making it a set and forget solution.
