Linking was seemless. **What do you dislike about HoudiniEsq?** The app was cumbersome for our staff to learn and manage, particularly as compared to other firm management apps on the market. **What problems is HoudiniEsq solving and how is that benefiting you?** As a previous TimeMatters user, the hope was HoudiniEsq would be an equally comprehensive and easy-to-use cloud-based solution for our case management needs. We tried it for several months and, unfortunately, found that it did not meet our needs. ### 2. Multiple cases for a single client, makes it so much easier to keep up with my case load. **What do you dislike about HoudiniEsq?** Sometimes entering new cases isn't as easy- having to train someone new made me realize how odd it can be to enter in "new" clients with information that already exists in the program. And sometimes the program doesn't update the billing amounts and I have to restart the program. **Recommendations to others considering HoudiniEsq:** Ask questions, follow tutorials, everything can be undone if you make mistakes. **What problems is HoudiniEsq solving and how is that benefiting you?** This has made it easier for me to track cases, compile bills by tracking incremental time according to specified base rates, switch between people who work on the case and thus adjust the rate accordingly. It honestly makes it possible to take on more cases and keep them all organized and still give great service. ### 3. The site seems a little "clunky". **Recommendations to others considering HoudiniEsq:** Houdini is a consistent reasonably priced solution. You know what it can do, it might not have all of the bells and whistles of other programs but it is priced competitively and it does what you need. They've been improving by adding more integrations with other softwares or services. **What problems is HoudiniEsq solving and how is that benefiting you?** Reports reports reports! Running reports is so essential to knowing what your business is doing and tracking your progress. ### 5. This is the only firm management software I know that offers a free version for solo practitioners. It is a great solution for small law firms or solo practitioners. **What do you dislike about HoudiniEsq?** The "localhost" has to be restarted every time the browser is closed. Basically I have to go and end the application and then start the application again every time the browser is closed. This software would not be my first choice when managing litigations as the interface is not designed for that. I would also like a phone system integration (even if only with cell phone apps) allowing automated billing for phone conversations. The software offers a really nice billing side, but integration with QuickBooks would offer a better value. **Recommendations to others considering HoudiniEsq:** Great options for the pricing they offer. If you are a solo practitioner, be sure to try the free version. **What problems is HoudiniEsq solving and how is that benefiting you?** I believe the main problem it solves is the ability to track billing. The legal billing aspect of it is great. It allows for customized services and different billing rates, as well as flat-fee cases. It keeps track of billing and I have the ability to create estimates, bills and review the past due accounts or the balance in the trust account.
