Hotjar makes it easy to record user interactions with your website. We record every new page and immediately get quality recordings. These recordings are invaluable for studying how our users are actually using our product. These recordings give us quick insights we can use to iterate on our product. I believe Hotjar isn't the only tool to offer this functionality, but it's one of the most well-rounded and cost-effective tools for this job. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I love the Heatmap functionality, but I wish it let us see further than the last 30 days. If we happen to have an extended holiday, or we get too busy to check the heatmaps, it can mean necessary data is lost. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

As I am using WordPress, installing and setting up hotjar to my website was very easy. I got live with hotjar is just not more than 5 min. The whole setup process was very easy. We can see the recordings of the users how they went to our websites. We can see their clicks, where they wait for, almost everything. We can see the recording for new users, returning users as well as for mobile users also. There is also one feature for heatmaps that see heatmaps of the users very accurately. Along with all these features they also offers 14 day free trails for their Business plan. We can take surveys from users in any specified page on website from users with this. Honestly, there are very few downsides. I think I had an issue once after hitting 100,000 responses on a segmentation survey, but that's probably quite rare.

I wish they would optimize the UI to cater to long hours of recordings viewings. Another big pain point I have is that Hotjar logs me out automatically every other day, which can be pretty frustrating. HotJar is very easy to integrate with a snippet of code (we use Google Tag Manager).

Sorting by sentiment is very simple

A lot of information about user recordings or sentiment feedback is given (browser, device model, etc.) with it being relatively easy to download all of the information in excel format or CSV.

Searching, filtering, tagging, is very hard. There is no actual "tagging" feature where you can assign certain feedback with "keywords" or "themes"

Customer service is interesting. You get a generic email and while the replies are very friendly, you never know quite who you're talking to.

The payment process is painful if you are paying through a corporation rather than just putting down a credit card. It's based in Malta and there are some forms of payment they do not take.

The feedback button when used on your site can only be placed in a few areas and often times gets in the way, so much that your users are complaining about the feedback button itself! The button cannot be branded, either.
