The cost of hosting doesn't make sense when the web has plenty of methods for static sites to be hosted effectively for free as long as you have bought a domain name to pair to your sites, such as through GitHub or Netlify. Speaking on pairing your domain to a site, this is a secondary complaint where unlike with google domains, you can't easily connect your site through the DNS settings. **Recommendations to others considering HostGator:** If you need services that their hosting can provide, it is worth your time wanting a manageable email service, connecting WordPress for financial tools such as woocommerce. Whenever I needed help installing a script or configuring my WordPress website, I can hop onto their live chat any time, and they'll always be there to help me. They are really friendly and never gave up with me even though I think some of the questions I asked them were kind of lame and could be easily googled. Their prices are also a steal. I paid a $125 for 3 years worth of unlimited storage website hosting and managed support. At that price point, that's hard to beat, especially with their fast support team. Their support response time is where Hostgator shines the most. **What do you dislike about HostGator?** Even though Hostgator is in the United States, and they boast that their tech support staff and servers are in the US, I feel like Hostgator outsource their support team from other countries. Because sometimes in the live support chat, I end up with an operator whose English isn't native and is sometimes grammatically incorrect, but I still could understand him. I know it's an Indian whenever they use words like "kindly" in front of their support response messages. I just rather prefer in-house American support. It's alright for me that they have to outsource staff because that's the sacrifice of having fast support 24/7. Although their first response is fast, sometimes my problems require "upper level" support, so they have to wait for one of the higher ups to solve my problem. The longest time I waited for them to solve my problem was 3 days, but I was not left alone for 3 days. They constantly kept me updated while we wait for one of the higher ups to solve my problem. **What problems is HostGator solving and how is that benefiting you?** Hostgator has saved me a lot of money because before I had hostgator, I was paying for another web host monthly. But with Hostgator's 3 year term, I saved a lot of money and stress because I know I won't be missing hidden fees or getting a surprise every month or so. Hostgator support has also kept my website upfloat because if I didn't know how to change the font on my wordpress site, they guide me and do it for me quickly. Sumary Of The Whole Issue: I bought a 3 year hosting plan, then canceled it for refund to the card used to purchase (per their policies) the next day due to deliberate technical challenges from their technicians, probably to get me to pay for their assistance. Stay away from hostgator, Details below. **What do you dislike about HostGator?** Hostgator Refund And Services Are Huge Deliberate Scam. Full Story: On 28th January 2021, I purchased a three year hosting plan based on the confidence given that there would be a 45 day refund if i didn't like the service. I migrated one of my websites to hostgator the same day. After the migration i realized my SSL was not working so i contacted support to show me where to install ssl on their dashboard as i couldn't find it. The support guy instead went into the .htaccess of the website without letting me know and did http - https redirection which broke the site instantly. He was unable to fix it and said support will email me and fix it (it never came), i definitely couldn't wait since this was an active website. I spent hours doing a re migration and fixed it overnight. The next day i realized while monitoring my real time page views traffic in google analytics, that majority of my visitors where landing on 404 pages (This is definitely not a dns propagation issue as DNS had fully propagated, and visitors wouldn't land on the website at all if it was DNS propagation issue). Surprisingly i couldn't replicate it since my visits to the links worked fine, i confirmed this by checking the page views in analytics and realized majority of the pages were really 404 pages. I reported to their support and their excuse is that it is an issue with google analytics, that was definitely ridiculous and i knew it was time to leave. The site was a backed up and migrated to hostgator with no change made to it, also it had always been on analytics and i always checked real time traffic without an issue. I contacted support to make sure if i would get a refund to the card, they confirmed and detailed how to go about it which i did, I received an email confirming i would receive the refund in two weeks, it never came. I contacted them they refused to reply after days, until i threatened to make this known to the world. After replying, knowing that paypal has restrictions on my country (ie does not support receiving funds to Ghana PayPal accounts) they requested to pay through PayPal thinking i couldn't get one, i provided one which could receive funds.
