**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Linda F. | Industrial Automation Specialist, Food & Beverages, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 27, 2025

**What do you like best about HiveMQ?**

The biggest positive thing about HiveMQ is that it keeps stable connections to a large number of devices. It has alleviated a lot of issues caused by message loss when working with a network of sensors that need constant interaction and we use it for that. Device authentication is also helped by the platform, which stops making our system vulnerable to unauthorised access. Reliable way to manage device connections has made it much better workflow and helped devices run exactly as they should be.

**What do you dislike about HiveMQ?**

The downside of HiveMQ is that putting in the time to properly configure HiveMQ for optimal performance is a chore. Careful planning also need to be given to setting up message queues, the definition of security policies and alteration of retention settings. The platform is powerful but it does take effort to get everything running smoothly. The other third is managing costs as usage proliferates. Scaling up can be expensive on this pricing model and has also made us careful about how we allocate resources to prevent any unnecessary expenses on this.

**What problems is HiveMQ solving and how is that benefiting you?**

With HiveMQ, we do not deal with inconsistent message delivery between connected devices anymore. In the past, on occasion, we lost communication and that would throw us off grid. With the advent of our technological devices, now devices remain connected and pass information accurately so that we may hence operate smoothly. Second, we do have improved security because we can know the network to the AD of which device has a connection. This has reduced risk of unauthorized connection and data integrity has been maintained across the system.

  ### 3. I don't stress about message delivery anymore, thanks to HiveMQ

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**What do you dislike about HiveMQ?**

The setup process begins as a complex task because users need strong MQTT knowledge along with particular configuration requirements. The documentation provides extensive information which may present a challenge for new users to handle. HiveMQ presents reliable features at a potentially high price point which benefits organizations despite their budget constraints.

**What problems is HiveMQ solving and how is that benefiting you?**

HiveMQ enables us to handle and expand our IoT communications operations more effectively. Message loss and delays used to be our main issues before HiveMQ implementation that resulted in restricted real-time data processing. HiveMQ delivers messages without failures while keeping delay times short even though the network handles heavy data volumes. ### 7. A Robust Solution for Edge Messaging

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Caleb H. | Embedded Software Engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 08, 2024

**What do you like best about HiveMQ?**

I primarily used the Edge HiveMQ solution. The HTTP interface that can be used to adjust bridge settings made configuration investigation easy. Deployment was simple, because of the JVM. The broker appears to follow MQTT protocol and was easy to integrate into our system. The support channel is quite responsive, and the history of previously asked questions saved me time. For most questions I have, search engines usually discover a high quality HiveMQ article with an answer or tutorial to answer them.

**What do you dislike about HiveMQ?**

The Edge broker is written in Java, which, with the JVM, is known to have some computational overhead. Some expected differences for Java-based programs include higher memory consumption and less performance than lower-level languages like C, C++, Golang, and Rust. In my testing and comparison of brokers, HiveMQ for the Edge did use more memory, resulting in less performance than Mosquitto (written in C) on a resource-constrained device during high message volume. It's probable that many use-cases will find this performance hit neglegible. The configuration is XML, which can be less pleasant to read and work with than JSON, or YAML.

**What problems is HiveMQ solving and how is that benefiting you?**

HiveMQ provides high-quality articles for the MQTT protocol. This has helped my learning and integration of MQTT tools. I evaluated the Edge HiveMQ broker in our search for the best broker to use on the edge. There were no missing features, the tool was robust enough to meet the needs our company has.

The scalability aspect of the software is also a major plus in that we are able to expand our IoT structure without compromising on performance. Our cloud platforms are integrated with HiveMQ to make data handling easier and more accessible. One of the unique options is the possibility to track and control the system with the help of the intuitive dashboard.

**What do you dislike about HiveMQ?**

I still would like to mention the fact that HiveMQ might be relatively expensive in comparison to other platforms for small projects or startups. This can be a significant disadvantage for some organizations especially those that are just establishing themselves in a given market. Furthermore, the software’s stability is internally high, but outsiders may have to go through a learning curve to familiarize with MQTT protocols slowing the process slightly. These aspects have sometimes raised the issue of the cost justification and ensuing training necessary, particularly when the downturn is limited.

**What problems is HiveMQ solving and how is that benefiting you?**

HiveMQ helps us meet our IoT communication requirements by providing a robust and scalable MQTT broker. This makes it easy for transfer of data from one device to the other which is very beneficial for our business. The measures you have taken regarding security are commendable and give peace of mind regarding our information. By using HiveMQ, we have centralized our data and this has made our activities to be efficient and we are able to respond to queries faster. **Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Miranda G. | Product designer, Design, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 27, 2023

**What do you like best about HiveMQ?**

HiveMQ's user-friendly approach stands out. It's like they had beginners in mind when designing it. Setting up my devices to chat with each other was surprisingly straightforward. I was able to get my devices talking within minutes, without needing a degree in tech wizardry. I also liked how i was able to connect seamlessly any number of smart products from all kinds of different brands and products and nothing tripped HiveMQ up it still worked accurately and quickly, which was pretty great after dealing with ALexa and google for so long.

My IoT setup was turning into a jumbled mess of devices speaking different languages. HiveMQ acted as the translator I needed. It created a smooth communication network where my smart gadgets exchanged information effortlessly. Controlling my devices from anywhere, and having them collaborate seamlessly, has transformed how I manage my smart home and small business.

HIveMQ has a user-friendly interface with solid community support when you run into issues. Really made the impossible easily possible for me this will be game changer in people's ability to set up their own smart homes.

**What do you dislike about HiveMQ?**

I did encounter some frustation when trying to access more advanced settings. HiveMQ's customization features, while powerful, required a bit of learning curve. Some of the more intricate settings felt like unraveling a mystery. Thankfully, the HiveMQ community and resources helped me overcome this hurdle. However the open-sourced free version only offers so much in terms of more advanced settings and features and I was reluctant to move up to the more advanced (and expensive) commercial version of the software.

**What problems is HiveMQ solving and how is that benefiting you?**

HiveMQ effectively resolves our challenges in IoT communication by ensuring seamless device interaction, scalability, and efficient data integration. This benefits us by enhancing operational efficiency, enabling smooth business growth, and providing real-time insights for informed decision-making. I really like the API, I think it is very intuitive and has everything that you want and more. I also like that it uses modern java features like Optionals and such. Besides that when I have issues/questions, and I post something on the forum I get a response within a few hours.

I also really like that it has an embedded version, which really allows you to self contain a lot of things that makes it a lot easer.

**What do you dislike about HiveMQ?**

While I really like the documentation, I dislike that sometimes the information that is there is incorrect, this is especially the case for the HiveMq community edition.

**What problems is HiveMQ solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It solves that our customers can connect to us, via the Mqtt protocol. And do so very reliably and with high performance. Which didn't happen with the last library we were using.
