"Playful Gamification That Makes Public Kudos Fun"
4.5/5
What do you like best about HeyTaco?

The playfulness of using emojis and the gamification which incentivises colleagues to give public kudos Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about HeyTaco?

Sometimes it's used in excess for people to gain more tacos/'purchasing power' and I also would love to see better rewards in the TacoShop, which I appreciate is company-specific. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from Una Japundza of HeyTaco

We love that you called out the playfulness and gamification 🌮✨ When recognition feels light and fun, people actually participate — and that’s where the culture shift happens.

On the concern about excess use for “purchasing power”: that’s a really thoughtful observation. A few design choices help balance that:

Daily taco limits naturally cap how much anyone can give.

Public visibility keeps exchanges transparent — recognition that feels transactional tends to stand out.

Many teams choose to emphasize thoughtful messages over volume, reinforcing that why matters more than how many.

When tacos are tied to real moments — support, collaboration, wins — they land differently than when they’re just traded.

On the Taco Shop rewards: you’re absolutely right that those are company-specific. We’ve seen the most success when teams mix tangible rewards with creative or experiential ones (extra PTO hours, team lunches, charity donations, custom swag, etc.). The flexibility is there so each organization can tailor it to what feels meaningful.

We especially love that it’s become a running joke in your office — that shared language and joy is a huge part of connection.

Thanks for the thoughtful feedback and for keeping the taco economy lively (and playful) 🌮💛

"Needs Improvement Despite the Appeal of Public Recognition"
0.5/5
What do you like best about HeyTaco?

I love seeing public recognition for my teammates and for myself. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about HeyTaco?

The rewards feel lacking overall, and the notifications are annoying and often distracting. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from Una Japundza of HeyTaco

Thanks for your review, Ashley! The rewards in HeyTaco are customizable by each team, so what you see is what your HeyTaco admins decided to launch. I'd always recommend reaching out to your admins directly with feedback about the rewards. And if you don't know who your admins are, please reach out to support@heytaco.com and we can find out for you! Notifications can be turned off on your profile page in HeyTaco, or in Slack/Microsoft Teams directly.

"Fun, Easy Coworker Recognition for Remote Teams"
4/5
What do you like best about HeyTaco?

Fun and easy way to recognize coworkers, especially in a remote workplace Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about HeyTaco?

It's no replacement for regular recognition and feedback, and can contribute to a culture of upward recognition to leadership which may not flow back down to ICs, and can result in those who work less visibly feeling less recognized. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from Una Japundza of HeyTaco

Thank you for such a thoughtful and balanced review 🌮💛

You’re absolutely right on an important point: HeyTaco isn’t a replacement for regular feedback or thoughtful recognition from managers. It’s meant to complement those conversations, not replace them. The most effective teams use tacos alongside 1:1s, feedback loops, and intentional leadership recognition.

You also raised a really meaningful concern about recognition flowing upward and more visible work getting the spotlight. That’s something we think about a lot. A few ways teams address this:

Model peer-to-peer recognition. When leaders intentionally give tacos to ICs and highlight behind-the-scenes contributions, it sets the tone.

Encourage cross-team recognition. Tacos are especially powerful when they surface work that’s normally invisible — support, enablement, cleanup work, and collaboration.

Use giving-focused insights. We intentionally emphasize giving tacos (not just receiving) to reinforce that recognition is everyone’s responsibility, not a popularity contest.

Name the behavior you want to see. Some teams explicitly call out recognizing “quiet wins” or less visible work as part of their taco norms.

We’re glad HeyTaco is helping break down remote silos and create a culture of peer celebration — and we really appreciate you naming the nuances that make recognition work well in practice. Feedback like this helps teams use tacos more thoughtfully and keeps the culture healthy 🌮✨

"A Low-Friction Way to Spread Good Vibes Every Day"
5/5
What do you like best about HeyTaco?

Such a low-friction way to spread good vibes all day, every day. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about HeyTaco?

I'd like to provide my work pals with burritos as well. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from Una Japundza of HeyTaco

We’re so glad you called out the low-friction good vibes — that’s the dream 🌮✨ Recognition should be easy enough to happen all day, not just when someone remembers during performance review season.

As for burritos… listen, we respect them. We really do. But tacos and burritos have a long-standing rivalry, and in this house, tacos run the show 😉 They’re lighter, faster, easier to share publicly, and way better suited for spontaneous bursts of appreciation. Burritos are more of a private, two-handed commitment.

Most importantly, we love hearing that HeyTaco helps teammates feel more connected in a remote world. That daily drip of recognition is exactly how distance starts to feel a little smaller.

Thanks for being on Team Taco — we’ll keep the good vibes flowing 🌮💛

"A fun and effective way to recognize teammates"
5/5
What do you like best about HeyTaco?

I love how HeyTaco encourages peer-to-peer recognition in a lighthearted and engaging way. It has strengthened our team culture and helped everyone feel appreciated. The integration with Slack is seamless, and the daily use makes recognition part of our routine. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about HeyTaco?

There’s really nothing I dislike about HeyTaco itself. However, I would love to see more reward options available in Mexico. For example, having a digital rewards card that works like a debit card would be a great addition for redeeming tacos locally. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Quick, Easy Kudos Anyone Can Use"
5/5
What do you like best about HeyTaco?

Quick and easy to give kudos. Anyone can use it. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about HeyTaco?

Limit of 5 per day. Would be nice to allow a set amount per month instead. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Response from Una Japundza of HeyTaco

Thank you for the kind words! 🌮 Great point on the daily limit — the scarcity is actually intentional, since it keeps tacos feeling meaningful rather than routine. That said, your admin can adjust the limit to whatever works best for your team, so it's worth a quick chat with them if you'd like more to give each day!
