Thanking someone in a DM feels like I might be annoying them with the interruption, whereas thanking by publicly giving them a taco helps get them the acknowledgement they deserve, and it proves that I really mean it, because I'm using my limited supply of tacos to thank them. Tacos are fun to receive too.
