"Empowering Data Analysis with Intuitive AI Tools"
What do you like best about Hex?

I really like the HEX generative AI agent; it's the feature I enjoy most. It's incredibly helpful for getting research started, writing code accurately, and synthesizing findings without much hallucination. Additionally, the integration process was very easy and gradual, with HEX making it simple to use CSV files directly out of the box. The threads feature is particularly useful for speaking in natural language, and HEX performs a lot of the analysis automatically without needing much intervention. It has great self-healing properties, too, like fixing code issues easily through the AI agent. I find it valuable to chat with the HEX AI agent, which helps explain results and their ramifications in simple terms, aiding in synthesizing research questions and analyzing data effectively. What do you dislike about Hex?

I think Hex is still figuring out the enterprise use case in general. I tried to use Hex's semantic features, but even though it was supposed to be in my plan, I was not able to access it until very recently. So I think, in terms of the admin panel or the platform itself, there might be some issues here and there. However, I think the team is very responsive whenever you do have a problem. I've noticed that it's very difficult to export from Hex. I wish there was a cleaner way to export the data files from Hex. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Incredibly Intuitive AI Data Science Agent That Makes Insights Fast, Easy, and Fun"
What do you like best about Hex?

Incredibly useful and intuitive AI data science agent. It makes data science feel like magic - am i am someone that is very data-inclined. Makes unlocking business / data insights so fast / easy and FUN! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Hex?

Honestly, not much. Some of the features feel a bit redundant to me. For example, what’s really the difference or intended use case between “Explore” and a “Project”? I feel like I always end up using a project, but maybe I’m just not aware of the benefits of Explore. Similarly, “Chat with App” versus “Chat with agent in project” seems like the same thing—at least from my perspective. I’m also not sure what “Threads” are, or what “Collections” are supposed to be used for. Maybe I’m just not trained enough yet, but overall these options come across as overlapping with what I’d expect from a generic notebook, which is the workhorse for me. "Data, Code, Outputs and Narrative in one Place."
What do you like best about Hex?

Work together with our team on data projects, and using data to find useful answers without complexity. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Hex?

Rerunning all cells can make the app slow because of how it's designed. When working with long code, it's harder to use than a regular code editor. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Intuitive to use, Faciliates Quick Report Building, with Responsive Support"
What do you like best about Hex?

Very intuitive to use. Reports can be super quick to spin up.

We find it great for sharing insights across an entire team (unlimited viewer licences is a huge plus for us).

The support has been excellent, both super responsive and helpful. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Hex?

Only suggestion is that some expansion to the chart options would be useful. Heat maps or charts which can graph dynamic/input variables would be particularly useful for us. (I don't find using Python to implement these looks as polished as the inbuilt charts). Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Effortless Custom Reporting and Intuitive Admin Interface"
What do you like best about Hex?

I appreciate how easy it is to create custom reports and analyses, ranging from simple descriptive statistics to more advanced analytics. As a data developer at my company—combining aspects of both data engineering and analysis—I really enjoy coding in notebooks. We use BigQuery as our datawarehouse so the integration was so easy. Additionally, since I serve as the admin for our Hex account, I find the platform’s user-friendly interface for management to be a major advantage. I’d also like to mention that whenever I’ve needed support, whether for questions or to resolve bugs, customer support has always provided helpful answers or solutions. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Hex?

As a developer, I can't say that there's anything I currently dislike about Hex. However, from an admin perspective, I wish there were more detailed statistics available about users and their interactions with the platform. At the moment, I can only access limited information, such as users' most recent views, but I don't have a comprehensive overview of the entire user experience within this tool. "Effortless Analysis Creation and Sharing"
What do you like best about Hex?

It's very straightforward to start writing analyses, and to host them on the internet for others to see. The provided interactive elements also make it possible to write dashboards to help automate simple business processes that require human input. This part of the review is short and sweet because, for suitable use cases, Hex is very powerful and intuitive! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Hex?

This is more of a business process issue than a Hex issue, but here goes: It is important to scope out your project before starting with Hex. Once the number of cells in a project begins to swell (~70+ cells), the optimizations for notebook visuals become an editing problem. Ctrl-F will fail to take you to the correct cell, and trying to scroll up or down through the notebook becomes very sluggish as every cell you scroll over takes time to load, as they are unloaded once they are far enough away from the viewport. I cannot find a good workaround for this issue. Additionally, there is no multiline find-and-select, which can make refactoring code an enormous pain, especially when coupled with the notebook size issue. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Empowers Interactive Analysis, Needs Better Customization"
What do you like best about Hex?

I love the fact that Hex allows me to create apps that can be used either as reports for deep analysis or interactive tools for nontechnical partners to explore and find answers themselves. It's so interactive and easy to use, making it a unique feature of Hex. I appreciate how Hex makes it really easy to create tools for my cross-functional partners and interactive dashboards because I can flip between Python and SQL seamlessly. The amount of visualizations I can create is basically unlimited. I can do complex analyses and easily create reports to share without having to switch between different tools. Everything can be done in one place. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Hex?

There's a lot of confusion from our nontechnical partners who frequently request edit access when it's not what they need. The developer seat is very expensive, which makes the data engineering team clamp down on who has edit capabilities and revoke access from those who accidentally ask for the wrong thing. I also find the AI feature in Hex not very helpful. It struggles with fixing SQL bugs, often making incorrect changes and reformatting everything without making it clear what the initial bug was. I would also love to have the app's aesthetics more in line with our company brand. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Rapid Data Analysis with Intuitive UI"
What do you like best about Hex?

I use Hex to analyze data for my work, and it has significantly sped up my process. Tasks that would normally take hours now only take minutes. I really appreciate how much data it has and how easy the threads are to use. The platform is intuitive as it anticipates the next questions I might ask. With all the data available, I don't have to query anything; I can simply ask in plain English, which makes my workflow much faster. Also, the setup was incredibly easy; I just logged in and everything was ready to go. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Hex?

I don't like that the data or analysis can be wrong at times. There have been multiple instances where I would ask it something like 'review this file and tell me how many lives X employer has,' and it gives me the wrong count. It seems to have issues reading data from CSV files accurately. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Super Smooth, Easy Workflows with SQL + Python and Built-In Visualizations"
What do you like best about Hex?

HEX is super smooth and easy to use, both from a data analyst perspective and as a customer. In my every day use, I can build complex workflows without much complication by combining SQL and Python cells. Most visualizations are built in within HEX, and for anything that isn’t, I can rely on Python libraries to create what I need.

Organizing projects in HEX is also straightforward. We can set up different collections per client and adjust permissions so the right people have access. Scheduling and alerts are great as well, and HEX’s capacity to run complex queries is great.

Lastly, the HEX support team provides fast answers and guidance. Every time I've shared a project with them they have been able to give me an appropriate answer, which is much appreciated. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Hex?

We’ve had a couple of bad experiences with the customer team itself, where they stopped replying to emails even when we had urgent requests.

From a product perspective, HEX could benefit from including a few more built-in graph types, such as box plots, for example. It would also help to have more options to style graphs more easily, like the ability to show null values, remove or add labels in faceting, and allow multiple series in faceting. "Empowers Data Democratization Despite Missing Excel"
What do you like best about Hex?

I like Hex for its ease of use and maintenance, along with its open-source nature. The deployment process and administrative features meet my needs well. Hex supports Jinja and Python, which I find beneficial. I appreciate the low learning curve and ease of entry, which has led to many users adopting Hex. Additionally, setting up Hex was easy since it is cloud-based, and transitioning from multi-tenant to single-tenant using YAML export was straightforward. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Hex?

I don't like the lack of Excel integration with only CSV and clipboard output. I'm not sure if it's a licensing issue or because Excel isn't open source. If Excel isn't an option, then using Google Sheets could be a solution. For any modern tool without Excel integration, it's a missed opportunity. There's a saying that Excel was here before us, and it will be here when we are gone, no matter how many people try to get rid of it. I'm looking for a URL API to execute/run Hex reports to dump data directly into Excel with some limited formatting. Also, I had some challenges with conversion because Hex doesn't retain or translate data sources during setup. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
