**What do you like best about Hex?**

I use Hex for understanding revenue, costs, capacity use, and reliability of our infrastructure. I appreciate how it makes it way easier to get visibility into what's going on and to share insights between technical and non-technical parties. It's like a lingua franca for working with finance. I really like the ease of integration with BigQuery and the overall look and feel of the dashboards it creates. It's easier for me to use Hex to query BigQuery than using BigQuery's own UIs. The initial setup of Hex was also very easy.

**What do you dislike about Hex?**

There are a few things: 1. The autocomplete is still really bad for Python. 2. Better inline views of tables, etc to guide me in creating queries. 3. I'd love to have some more chart types to play with. 4. There should be better support for blending different time series into the same plot without creating additional dataframes and hacking it the hard way. For example, blending a revenue query with a cost query is actually kind of hard.

**What do you like best about Hex?**

I like the organization of the notebook in Hex, clean and tidy thanks to the ability to rename everything, and I find it easy to update using the search tool. I appreciate the ability to comment, which allows me to ask for feedback on charts directly. I find the integrated AI very useful for solving errors by providing context, for performing extractions with great accuracy and Python code. Additionally, the ability to give personalized instructions is an advantage, as Hex is able to correctly filter the various tables based on the requests made.

**What do you dislike about Hex?**

The default charts of Hex are limited and lack important features. They are not very interactive once published in a dashboard, and the axis names cannot be parameterized with input. The collections function is unclear and lacks a system of folders and subfolders, making it difficult for stakeholders to find the dashboards and analyses of their interest. The settings for publishing a notebook are unclear regarding the use of the cache. The graph mode of the notebook is interesting but currently confusing and does not help in understanding the organization.

**What problems is Hex solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Hex for the clean organization of notebooks with the ability to rename everything, ease of sharing, and customization. I like the commenting feature, the integrated AI for solving errors, and the accuracy in extractions.

**What do you like best about Hex?**

I love how Hex's AI agent keeps improving with every release, really empowering my job through brainstorming, code building for SQL or Python, and general debugging. It's pretty smart and handles notebook cells, such as deletion, creation, input, and filters, effectively builds apps on its own, and significantly speeds up the delivery of data apps. I use Hex for data analytics, developing data apps, sharing notebooks with colleagues, and cooperating with fellow data analysts. The integration with Slack for notifications and the ability to attach graphs in Notion smartpapers are also valuable.

**What do you dislike about Hex?**

I don't like the repetitive clicks for formatting metrics and repetitive specifications to prompt the AI agent. Also, the repetitive cell creations just for adding text in the app builder are tedious. The notification system should be more flexible about the conditions to trigger alerts, not limited to when a dataframe reaches a certain amount of rows. Initially, using Kjingas grammar for dynamic filters was not straightforward, and it was unclear how to feed SQL codes stored in strings from other dataframes.

**What problems is Hex solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Hex for data analytics and developing data apps, which helps with dashboard management and responding to quick data questions from stakeholders. It enhances collaboration with fellow analysts and integrates with Slack for notifications.

**What do you like best about Hex?**

I really like how easy Hex is to use. They have a lot of prebuilt components that require less customization, which makes it more straightforward. I also enjoy being able to query from other data frames that you can produce within Hex. It's self-referential and allows for efficient data manipulation.

**What do you dislike about Hex?**

Hex has released a couple updates that have broken some of my setups because some logic that previously worked no longer works within the new update. It's a bit frustrating having to go back and update every single one of my setups when one of those updates happens.

**What problems is Hex solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Hex allows me to build freestanding tools using their low-code software, which I wouldn't be able to make otherwise without having an engineer build it for me.

**What do you like best about Hex?**

I like Hex for its ease of use and quick response to my queries. I also appreciate the AI agent which creates charts and queries automatically, saving me a lot of time and effort in terms of data analysis. The initial setup of Hex was quite simple.

**What do you dislike about Hex?**

When it runs heavy queries, it gives up then and there instead of offering a solution such as narrowing down the query to a certain cohort, limiting the output enough for a solid sample, etc.

I find Hex makes pulling data and creating visualizations easy and helps analyze root causes of data anomalies. The AI agent saves time by creating charts and queries automatically.

**What do you like best about Hex?**

I use Hex for executing data science and analytics tasks, like creating internal-facing dashboards and running ETL processes. I find it very easy to access Snowflake data and like the ability to switch between SQL and Python to complete complex tasks. Creating dashboards is particularly simple, and I love the ease of creating parameterized workflows. My two favorite features are the ease of dashboard creation and the fantastic AI tool. The AI tool stands out because it views the entire codebase, understands what I'm trying to accomplish, and does a great job of writing its own code or fixing errors. Setting up Hex was very easy, which is one of my favorite parts because it makes sharing notebooks and components with my teammates super easy. I can also see the source code for dashboards very easily, which I really enjoy.

**What do you dislike about Hex?**

I feel there is a data engineering component that could be improved. I would LOVE to see an ability to run workflows that save files into a Hex filesystem that would make files accessible across other projects. One thing I've been struggling with is using components that involve complex queries in dashboards with live filters because by making one change it re-executes the entire component. Ideally, I'd like to have some workflows that run the component code daily, save out a CSV file, then my dashboard accesses that CSV file so it doesn't waste compute and improve dashboard speed and end user experience. It's not easy for data scientists to get access to Snowflake to create temporary tables, so having some kind of HDFS setup would be great to allow us to easily quick and dirty save out files for re-use within Hex or download for using in other setups.

**What problems is Hex solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Hex to easily execute data science tasks, access Snowflake data, switch between SQL and Python, and create dashboards. Its AI tool reviews my codebase, fixes errors, and writes code, enhancing workflows. Dashboard creation is seamless and efficient.

Everything. I feel like Hex has been the data partner that helps me better understand my business outcomes and clarify the next goals I want to build toward. What's also great: you chat, Hex provides! Super easy to use, and has become my sidekick using it several times a day.

**What do you dislike about Hex?**

Nothing so far! Hex has even pointed out small gaps in the data tables and shown that what looked like hallucinations weren’t really that, but rather data opportunities to improve.

**What problems is Hex solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Getting instant feedback on key business questions is a huge win for me. I also love that the data in the dashboards auto-refreshes—FTW. And the threads make it easy to follow up on insights and keep the conversation moving.

I like the versatility that Hex offers by combining Python and SQL with the context of the data warehouse and the agent. I also appreciate the discoverability of insights and data. Development in notebook mode is simple and increasingly clear with the sections and the filter component. Additionally, lately, the agent has surprised me with its good performance. The initial setup of Hex was very simple and comes with good documentation.

The slowness sometimes in some dashboards, it would be good to advise on how to better develop the notebook to optimize it in terms of speed.

**What do you like best about Hex?**

I like that Hex is generally pretty easy to use and rerun once I make updates to previously generated sections of a dashboard. The things that I know how to do with Hex are pretty intuitive.

**What do you dislike about Hex?**

There are some things that just don't feel super intuitive. I wish it was easier to just query from something that I utilize quite frequently. Finding things within a similar structure or source could be a huge improvement because oftentimes, I find it hard to just do basic things that I do all the time. You have to create the right kind of module or query from the right data source.

**What problems is Hex solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Hex to generate reports and SQL queries across multiple data sources, which I share with my team for data analysis. It helps me track project success by analyzing feature utilization using Snowflake integration.

**What do you like best about Hex?**

I like the AI features in Hex because they let me get answers without having to put in much SQL, which speeds up my work and my team's work. These features also allow the rest of the team, who don't know SQL, to dive into the data in-depth.

**What do you dislike about Hex?**

I would love more customizability for Hex editors. A lot of our users aren't editors, and they can't really optimize their space or edit how they would like. I also want more for the data analytics side. I find workbooks get pretty messy pretty quickly, and I'd love better organization.

I use Hex for deeper data discovery, enabling in-depth analysis without extensive SQL. It speeds up our work and allows non-SQL users to explore data.

**What do you like best about Hex?**

I like the flexibility of Hex, especially how I can create queries or use a notebook to write Python code if necessary. The ability to have different sections to organize my work and create queries from already created outputs is very useful. The initial setup as a user was very easy, as I could just log in and access all the tables in my data warehouse to query from.

**What do you dislike about Hex?**

I think there's opportunity for improvement in uploading data. It should be easier to upload data files to work with. I would also like more flexibility with pivot tables. It doesn't seem like I can do a few things to personalize the pivot table as much as I'd like.

Hex makes data accessible for everyone and helps us share reports and dashboards easily with different stakeholders.

**What do you like best about Hex?**

I like that Hex gives you everything in one place: data connection & exploration, code editor, AI agent, ability to publish apps, and schedule runs. Plus, it seems like every time I wish Hex fixed something or added support for a new feature, it gets done before I even asked them to do it. Hex moves fast with their product innovation! I also like the Google Drive connection interface. This has been handy when building internal tools that need to write output to somewhere that non-technical users can access. I also like the customer support chat.

**What do you dislike about Hex?**

The Slack integration for the Hex agent doesn't yet have enough controls for our organization because we need to manage data privacy and restrict who can read the results of different queries based on what region they are in. Because of this, we continue to use a tool our team built internally for our own data Slack bot instead of the new Hex one. We have also explored Hex's embedded analytics offerings but found that it's not quite mature enough for our requirements. Hex's embedded analytics bills per API call instead of per unique user, which is very expensive based on our setup where a user may need to access many different reports, and most other embedded analytics vendors are billing per distinct user per month. Also, the permissions and sharing controls are not as mature.

**What problems is Hex solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Hex for building internal tools, handling billing updates, processing call transcripts, and auditing payroll. It simplifies setting up notebooks for testing and debugging DBT projects, offering explanations and SQL codes through its AI agent, enhancing our workflows significantly.

**What do you like best about Hex?**

It's a great tool for data scientists. Very easy and intuitive to use and the chart functionality makes data exploration super fast. Integration with our cloud warehouse has also significantly reduced data engineering burden. I use it everyday for work and even my coworkers who aren't technical are able to use Hex with the AI assistant.

**What do you dislike about Hex?**

Chart options are a bit limited, but the main ones are still there. Also some of the custom measures/dimensions functions in Looker such as row totals, etc.

**What problems is Hex solving and how is that benefiting you?**

This platform delivers a full range of end-to-end data capabilities and significantly streamlines daily data science tasks. It's a great platform for collaboration within DS teams and cross-functional stakeholders.

**What do you like best about Hex?**

I like how Hex allows me to use SQL and Python to query our databases. I also appreciate that I can use Hex AI to help me write different queries across projects. It enables me to segment referral behavior in a very granular way for various campaigns, like direct mail and email, which isn't something easily done with our BI tool.

**What do you dislike about Hex?**

Sometimes the Hex AI feature takes a long time, and it doesn't seem as good as Clock Code or some other features.

**What problems is Hex solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Hex helps me segment referral behavior in a granular way for campaigns. I can use SQL, Python, and Hex AI for queries, which aren't possible with our BI tool. I sometimes export data directly to Google Sheets.

**What do you like best about Hex?**

I really appreciate the Thread agent feature in Hex. It makes it easy for me to describe what I want in natural language and allows my teammates who don't know SQL to access data effortlessly.

**What do you dislike about Hex?**

I don't like the new caps on thread agent usage. It makes it more difficult for our teammates to find information and will funnel them back to the same team members to pull their information. The initial setup required a couple weeks to migrate everything over.

Hex lets me easily look through data using natural language and allows teammates who don't know SQL to access data.

I am a beginner user of Hex and I use it to create dashboards and do analysis via threads. I like that I'm able to easily manipulate data in ways that Salesforce reporting can't. I appreciate Hex AI because it's very easy to use and is pretty accurate. Additionally, I like that Hex is connected to Snowflake for our data.

**What do you like best about Hex?**

I love using Hex to create dashboards and product analyses. I particularly appreciate the quick access to data and the simplicity of creating impactful and clear visuals. What I like the most is its blend between a Jupyter notebook and a classic reporting tool like Looker or Tableau. This allows me to quickly retrieve a figure that interests me and calculate new metrics, which facilitates rapid iteration compared to other more cumbersome tools. The initial setup was really simple and intuitive to connect to the database. I would give it a 10 out of 10 for recommending it to a friend or colleague.

**What do you dislike about Hex?**

Even though they are good, I find the chart options too simplistic with little room for maneuver. I would like more chart styles, like Gantt for making funnels, and more options in the most used charts.

**What problems is Hex solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Hex allows me quick access to data and easily creates impactful visuals. I appreciate the blend between a Jupyter Notebook and a traditional reporting tool. I can quickly retrieve figures and calculate new metrics, which allows me to iterate rapidly.

**What do you like best about Hex?**

I really enjoy how easy it is to create dashboards with Hex. The ability to flip between SQL and Python is fantastic because I can use the code that's best suited for the task at hand. The easy drop-down for charts and drag-and-drop features for charting and pivot tables make it a lot quicker than using pure Python or notebooks. The charts are far more visual and effective than those in Looker, and Hex is far cheaper than Tableau, which is great. The ability to see which parts of the code are taking longer than others is also brilliant as it often easy to speed up applications during test runs with some simple data editing.

**What do you dislike about Hex?**

The charting library could be expanded. It would be incredibly helpful to have slightly more options to choose from, and for certain charts to be slightly less rigid in their structure.  While certain charts can be created with python scripts, these always look significantly different in the app to those auto created by by the hex charting library.  Expanding the library would speed up certain dashboard building as well as improving the visuals.  For example, funnel charts would be a great addition. The notifications are a really cool function. However, they seem more suited towards a backend team suggesting that this run of the application has failed or succeeded, rather than a general updating for a company-wide or even a C-suite level view for things like daily or weekly updates on metrics. If the notifications were improved in that respect, and the charts could be pulled directly into it rather than from a PDF, it would be a really top-level tool.

I find Hex makes creating and editing dashboards easy. It allows pulling data directly and running calculations efficiently, saving days of work. The combination of SQL and Python in a single workflow simplifies handling data dynamically.

**What do you like best about Hex?**

The overall flexibility of the tool is fantastic. I love being able to segment complex queries into different blocks, switch between SQL and Python, and to collaborate with coworkers directly in an IDE.

**What do you dislike about Hex?**

I wish Hex could surface code errors before running queries, similar to BigQuery's out of the box IDE. I would like the ability to snooze/comment out blocks rather than physically commenting out the code. Direct AI coding assistant integration would be nice. The graph is helpful but hard to navigate

Primarily I am using Hex to build out operational performance tracking, automating workflows, and running adhoc analyses

**What do you like best about Hex?**

I quite like the notebook to app workflow and sharing capabilities. Creating a notebook from scratch, building out a replicable analysis, and sharing that with colleagues is a breeze with Hex. The SQL caching feature is quite nice as well to allow for faster notebooks coupled with sharing.

**What do you dislike about Hex?**

You can redefine variable names in different cells. This leads to one of Hex's main features not executing well. A traditional jupyter notebook runs top to bottom sequentially. With Hex, a graph is created. If I want to run the 30th cell then Hex uses the graph to understand what stale cells above it should also be run. This is great, until you redefine variables in different cells which leads to less of a gain from this feature.

**What problems is Hex solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Hex solves the problem of analysis coming to a dead end and residing in a silo. With traditional notebooks, it is rather tedious to share the output. Hex elegantly solves for this with the app builder integrating non-data folk friendly chart designs to allow for self service by stakeholders after the hard work is put in by a data person.

I like that Hex combines the usage of SQL and Python, unlike Jupyter notebooks. It has an easier way of creating charts, pivots, and tables. The pivot feature with calculated columns is the one I find most helpful, and the chart cells as well. These features save me a lot of time because I would have had to write code to perform these actions otherwise. The Pivot Hex cell is great because even a non-technical person can just drag and drop to adjust things. I found the initial setup fairly easy due to the documentation.

- cells that return "query" (instead of dataframe) is a great idea but the implementation is not good. It tries to show you a sample of data so if your query has heavy joins it takes forever. because of this, for reusable CTE's I need to use python which is not a seamless experience

Using the integrated AI I was able to find the information I wanted and it was helpful in extracting the information I needed quickly. It also made it easy to create quick apps using sql and python, schedule a job and integrate with other systems.

Hex is the most impressive analytical environment I have used so far. What impresses me most is how effortlessly Hex connects SQL and Python dataframes, allowing for smooth transitions between the two. The data caching functionality is another strong point, as is the ability to connect to and manage multiple databases at once. ONe more feature worth to be mentioned is Components. And the last but not least is easiness of transforming notebooks into published apps.

Hex provides an excellent feature that allows you to reuse SQL query cells as CTEs in later SQL cells. However, this functionality comes with a frustrating drawback. When working in Notebook mode, you must execute the CTE cell before running the final query, which effectively doubles the execution time.

I dislike the CTRL+F functionality inside a cell in Hex. It does not allow me to search for instances within a large cell effectively. Moreover, when using CTRL+F inside a cell, pressing ENTER does not take me to the next instance of the searched term automatically, which is an expected behavior that would greatly enhance usability.  Additionally, limitations in the amount of datapoints that can be displayed with the native visuals is a bit restricting. I constantly work with data that has lots of rows and lots of points. If there would be some default behavior that would somehow display an aggregate, a rolling median, or something and warn me about it rather than just say "too many data points" it would be useful. I'm typically more interested in the trends.

A significant blocker for us to fully use dashboards in Hex is the lack of a robust scheduling feature. The scheduled runs start to pile up and crash Hex giving us an error that we're out of capacity of our kernel usage. The only way to fix this is contact Hex support to clean it up on the backend which has taken multiple days of downtime.

The best thing about Hex is honestly how it combines SQL and Python in a really smooth, cell-based way. I love that you can break down long SQL queries into smaller CTEs, run them step by step, and actually see what’s happening at each stage. Makes debugging and collaborating way easier compared to writing one giant query in Snowflake. Also love how you can quickly switch to Python when needed and then use the magic cell to pivot or make a chart. It just feels way more natural for analysis.

I’d say the charting options could be more powerful. A lot of times I still have to go back into Python to build visualizations that I can’t do natively in Hex. Not a huge deal, but would be nice if that was stronger. Another thing is that Hex doesn’t really “understand” our database schema - like if there was some way to feed it a model schema and get smarter code suggestions, that’d be a game changer. Right now Snowflake feels a little ahead on that front.

**What do you like best about Hex?**

I really like how Hex makes it easy to handle the tables I need for building SQL and Python cells with just a prompt. The magic AI feature of Hex is incredibly valuable as it assists me in writing SQL queries, even when I'm unsure about the exact table or columns that contain the data I'm looking for. It breaks down complex queries into manageable chunks for me. Additionally, Hex helps me with CSS, HTML, and JS for my iterative charts, which end up looking quite impressive.

**What do you dislike about Hex?**

Hex has a limitation when it comes to the size of data it can handle, with a cap at 10mb for data rendering. This is problematic for me as I often need to load historical data up to 50mb, making it impossible to visualize such datasets due to this restriction. Additionally, the ability to filter visuals is limited. I cannot create a chart that can filter other visuals, and the current filtering capabilities within Hex are not as advanced as I would like. I want to be able to apply a filter on a visual that dynamically adjusts the data across the notebook. There is also a need for an enhanced interaction between JavaScript objects and Python for a more seamless workflow. Lastly, I prefer using IPython display for my notebooks because they look more modern compared to the visuals provided by Hex.

**What problems is Hex solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Hex to effortlessly create reports for business operations, leveraging its AI to write SQL and Python queries, breaking down complex queries, and assisting with CSS, HTML, and JS for visually appealing interactive charts.

I love Hex because it has been instrumental as our main BI tool, especially when I'm the sole data professional at our company. The Hex AI agent is truly amazing and beneficial for business users and development within Hex. It's been a key asset, allowing even non-technical team members to explore data with ease, significantly improving time to insight. The flexibility to dive deep into analyses with Hex's notebook approach is something I particularly enjoy as an analytics professional. It enables me to explore data thoroughly and manage deep dives effortlessly. The ability to use the AI agent almost daily through Slack demonstrates its integration and effectiveness across the company, from our CEO to AEs, making data accessible and insightful despite occasional minor errors. Overall, Hex is a powerful tool that has enriched our data analysis capabilities significantly.

**What do you dislike about Hex?**

I often have trouble with scheduled runs with notebooks - either a run fails or the environment isn't loading properly. Sometimes this has to do with the auto-caching, other times the notebook kernel just fails. When I open a notebook and it just says 'failure' when the kernel fails, I don't know how to even start debugging that.

**What do you like best about Hex?**

I like Hex for the user experience and quick dashboard development. It also provides convenience in scheduling, distributed compute, and quick dashboarding. Additionally, data access to many different hosting platforms is a significant benefit.

**What do you dislike about Hex?**

It slows down data science development as there is a lag or pulling large amounts of data is slow due to how it offloads the distributed data compute pools to the different data sources compared to Databricks. Also, the lack of customizability on dashboard development where I tend to show static seaborn or matplotlib plots vs Hex interactive plots.

Furthermore, its integration with other tools like Snowflake, Slack, and GitHub is smooth and enhances my operational efficiency. The initial setup was very easy, which made the transition to Hex smooth and hassle-free. I find managing permissions quite cumbersome with Hex. Creating groups or assigning dedicated permissions and access controls currently feels very manual. It’s an aspect that could benefit from a more streamlined process. Additionally, the integration of code with a GitHub repository is limited because it needs to be enabled on a per-notebook basis. This requirement makes it challenging to maintain and can be a significant blocker for larger organizations.

We use it to automate the creation of various slide decks, which saves time for our non-data teams and helps us internally. We also spin up dashboards for finance, sales, and other departments, so they can access what they need without a lot of manual work. On top of that, we automate Gemini calls and push the results into other platforms, for example Jira.
