## About HAProxy
HAProxy is an open-source software load balancer and reverse proxy for TCP, QUIC, and HTTP-based applications. It provides high availability, load balancing, and best-in-class SSL processing. HAProxy One is an application delivery and security platform that combines the HAProxy core with enterprise-grade security layers, management and orchestration, cloud-native integration, and more. Platform components: HAProxy Enterprise: a flexible data plane layer for TCP, UDP, QUIC, and HTTP-based applications that provides high-performance load balancing, high availability, an API/AI gateway, container networking, SSL processing, DDoS protection, bot detection and mitigation, global rate limiting, and a web application firewall (WAF). HAProxy Fusion: a scalable control plane that provides full-lifecycle management, observability, and automation of multi-cluster, multi-cloud, and multi-team HAProxy Enterprise deployments, with infrastructure integration for AWS, Kubernetes, Consul, and Prometheus. HAProxy Edge: a globally distributed application delivery network that provides fully managed application delivery and security services, a secure partition between external traffic and origin networks, and threat intelligence enhanced by machine learning that powers the security layers in HAProxy Fusion and HAProxy Enterprise. **Reviewed Date:** April 22, 2026

**What do you like best about HAProxy?**

Sensible front end design and scalability of the product

**What do you dislike about HAProxy?**

Can be slow to align to other products. Can be sensitive to change.

**What problems is HAProxy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Load balancing optimisation

**Official Response from Nick Ramirez:**

> Thanks for this feedback. Which products would you like HAProxy to integrate or align with?

  ### 2. Powerful Load Balancing, But Complex Setup and Missing Features

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Research | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 03, 2025

**What do you like best about HAProxy?**

High performance and can handle large amounts of traffic efficiently.
	•	Stable and reliable, even under heavy load.
	•	Flexible configuration, allowing detailed routing rules and traffic control.
	•	Supports both L4 and L7 load balancing.
	•	Provides useful health checks and monitoring tools.

**What do you dislike about HAProxy?**

Configuration can be complex, especially for new users.
	•	Dynamic scaling and service discovery require additional tools.
	•	Lacks some API gateway or WAF features in the open-source version.
	•	Advanced features often require more operational expertise.

**What problems is HAProxy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Networking over kubernetes, logging user-side access traffic with sidecar pattern inside every single pods

**Official Response from Nick Ramirez:**

> Thanks for the review!

  ### 3. Multi-Cluster Connectivity Is Great, But There’s Room to Improve

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Financial Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 24, 2026

**What do you like best about HAProxy?**

The possibility to connect multiple clusters together

**What do you dislike about HAProxy?**

The fact that for using some of the most useful feature you have to be restricted by license

**What problems is HAProxy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The load balancing of external traffic

  ### 4. Open Source Haproxy - Experience

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Arsalan K. | Software Engineer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 02, 2025

**What do you like best about HAProxy?**

Haproxy is an open source load balancer to deal with distribute request to the backend services

It just works

**What do you dislike about HAProxy?**

Definitions of routes can be simpler.
Release cycle can be improved

**What problems is HAProxy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Solves distribute the ingress traffic

**Official Response from Nick Ramirez:**

> Thank you for this feedback about defining routes and the release cycle. We're working on ways to simplify the configuration and keeping a consistent release cycle.

  ### 5. Fast and Reliable

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Zhi S. | DevOps Engineer, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 13, 2024

**What do you like best about HAProxy?**

The best thing I like about HAProxy is reliable and fast.

**What do you dislike about HAProxy?**

I don't have much dislike as it is fast and reliable.

**What problems is HAProxy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It helps us balance traffic to different endpoints

**Official Response from Nick Ramirez:**

> You didn't list any dislikes but you gave only three stars. What can we do to improve?

  ### 6. Good

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Alternative Dispute Resolution | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 13, 2024

**What do you like best about HAProxy?**

Good proxy solution to use .. good solution

**What do you dislike about HAProxy?**

Istio seems to work better and more community supported

**What problems is HAProxy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Healthcare

**Official Response from Nick Ramirez:**

> HAProxy doesn't compete with Istio. Istio is a service mesh, while HAProxy is for load balancing / application delivery. You could even use both. :-)

  ### 7. The potential is there but its been a slow start for our POC

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Carl R. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 06, 2023

**What do you like best about HAProxy?**

Cost and fusion are why our team decided to go with HAProxy. We dislike having to do all configuration via linux cli but adding Fusion on has made it more comparable to F5 etc.

**What do you dislike about HAProxy?**

I wish they offered an OVA appliance versus having to run it on top of a linux distro that they don't officially support. Would be helpful when you do not have a linux expert on your team.

**What problems is HAProxy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

A simple method to pass TCP traffic to our backend L7 load balancers managed by our devops team.

  ### 8. New user

Ensure routing to live Api backend only

**Official Response from Nick Ramirez:**

> Thank you for the feedback! We're always striving to improve the documentation. Have you checked out our Configuration Tutorials?

  ### 9. Devops

**Rating:** 2.5/5.0 stars

The tcp configuration to track the ip source

**What problems is HAProxy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

My app always available

  ### 10. We used HAProxy as load balancer for one of our production setup

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Automotive | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 28, 2020

**What do you like best about HAProxy?**

It was highly scalable and met our needs

**What do you dislike about HAProxy?**

No UDP support, hence we faced challenges with device traffic load balancing

**What problems is HAProxy solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We used it for load balancing web https requests and API calls

**Official Response from Dylan Murphy:**

> Thanks for reviewing HAProxy. HAProxy 2.3 brought support for UDP syslog in 2020 and the team plans to support additional UDP protocols on a per-protocol basis, with DNS being next. The HAProxy ALOHA appliance currently provides generic UDP support using LVS.
