It also allows me to create learning workspaces that are easy to navigate and support differentiation. All these features help me manage the workload of having over 200 students with numerous educational needs and collaborate with all the support staff working with them (including parents). Hāpara is the one thing I must have, as a teacher. **What do you dislike about Hāpara?** I can't think of a single thing I don't like. There have been glitches from time to time, but customer support always responds quickly and thoroughly. I suppose the one thing I don't like is that my district has not provided a lot of time for training so I had to seek it out on my own... but Hāpara provides that, too! **What problems is Hāpara solving and how is that benefiting you?** Managing huge courseloads with minimal planning time; differentiating for students with different learning needs; streamlining feedback and assessment; monitoring student online productivity; helping students build positive digital citizenship habits; building digital learning environments that are easy to navigate; helping students keep track of deadlines. ### 8. The ability to close tabs of distracted students or "focus browse" to keep students on the websites they need to be on. Secondly the ability to send a link to all class students at once expedites learning. The ability to send a message to one or all students is extremely useful as a feedback tool without distracting students with verbal praise or correction. It is also great for monitoring students when there is a substitute or a need for the teacher to be out, or when a studnet is out but can still connect to internet. The Highlights also comes with a feature where we can look at their current screen they are on -- this helps with work assistance remotely and also allows a teacher to take a screenshot of any screens that are innappropraite etc. to manage technology behavior. It is also helpful to have access to their most recent gmails on their school acacounts for safety and monitoring. Having our whole school connected to this program also allows any teacher to monitor the screens of another class if they are subbing. This helps keep students on task even when their teacher is gone. **What do you dislike about Hāpara?** Firstly, students hide other chrome windows that I can't close. Hapara lets me see their main window and tabs but not other windows. This becomes very frustrating especially when the other window is playing music. We have also had situations where more than one student is logged into the same computer and it is harder to discern who is on which tabs. We try to limit this as much as possible. Secondly, we can't access any student documents if they are offline like messing with their computer settings or changing their wallpaper instead of doing work. **Recommendations to others considering Hāpara:** Please consider Hapara for your school district; once you try it, you will not want to go back. Especially if you are one-to-one, this program is a must to manage to safety and academic progress of the students. You will gain so much control over the learning process with your students and their devices. **What problems is Hāpara solving and how is that benefiting you?** The main problem I have with Hapara is when students hide other chrome windows that I can't close. Hapara lets me see their main window and tabs but not other windows. This becomes very frustrating, especially when the other window is playing music. I teach special education students who can be very belligerent, and closing their other tabs is excellent for work completion. However, the Highlights feature is of great benefit. It allows monitoring of their one-to-one devices both to eliminate what they should not be on and to guide them to what they should be on. ### 9. I love how clear it is to see what documents my students have open. It is also sometimes a delay to see a screenshot of a students' work. There could perhaps be improvements in titles of each of the tabs--making it clearer what the functionality is. **Recommendations to others considering Hāpara:** Just to USE it! Objectives, learning resources, activities, assessments, and additional information can easily be shared and made available to learners. **What do you dislike about Hāpara?** When highlighting to delete font in the title of a card, description, or the Workspace information generally, sometimes Workspace takes you out of edit mode and back to view. It takes some playing around with the product to learn how to delete without having this occur. **What problems is Hāpara solving and how is that benefiting you?** Digital content for learners is well organized! Students/staff are able to easily locate information to complete classroom assignments or follow-up from professional learning. ### 12. Our school briefly left Hapara to use a competitor product but it did not provide the same access to students' screens or drives that I have now. With Hapara, I can keep my students on task and productive. It's also extremely helpful when a student thinks they've lost a document, as I can easily look at their files and help them find it. **What do you dislike about Hāpara?** Teachers do need to be careful that they do not lock their students' screens and prevent individual access during other teachers' class periods, but this is an operator error that is easily remedied. **What problems is Hāpara solving and how is that benefiting you?** During DIstance Learning at home, students became used to browsing videos or gaming during instruction time. Now with Hapara, I am able to shut down tabs that are distracting students without having to interrupt what I'm teaching. I can also monitor multiple screens and tabs at once to make sure students aren't using the internet during assessments. ### 14. Quite often they find themselves getting distracted and not focused on what they should be doing. However, Hapara helps me to keep them on track. Another feature I like is the ability to share links with them. **What do you dislike about Hāpara?** There are very few things that I don't like about Hapara. The biggest things that I struggle with are features that exist but could be developed further. For example, the Guide Browsing features is great, but it could be better if it was possible to schedule a recurring teamplate. I often start the day with a guided browsing session, but have to start it myself. It would be great if it would automatically start on the days scheduled. **Recommendations to others considering Hāpara:** It is a great product. If Hapara will fit your needs, I would highly consider it. **What problems is Hāpara solving and how is that benefiting you?** There are a couple of problems that I am able to solve with Hapara: 1. Keeping students on track by being able to see what they have open on their devices. 2. Sharing links helps to get students to new sites quickly. 3. Recently it has been invaluable with some students learning in the classroom while others are home. If a student is learning from home and doesn't have their school-issued device, it is almost impossible to help them troubleshoot when they are having issues. Hapara benefits my class by allowing us to move through material at a better rate. Instead of having to spend valuable time helping students locate new resources, or keep from getting distracted . . . . we are able to move past those issues quickly and keep learning. ### 15. I use Smart Copy almost daily to copy files for my students and keep them organized in the correct folders with the student names in the file names. I can number the docs for them to keep everything in order, and we can both find docs easily when needed. I also use the Highlights feature to check the students' screens as needed during class. I feel that these are essential features that make my teaching more effective on a daily basis. **What do you dislike about Hāpara?** My school is considering not renewing our Hapara subscription due to the cost. I would love it if Hapara could provide just certain features at a lower cost so that I could still have access while staying within the school's budget. In particular, I would love to have Smart Copy available. **Recommendations to others considering Hāpara:** I would recommend training all teachers on the features so that the users can take full advantage of everything Hapara has to offer. **What problems is Hāpara solving and how is that benefiting you?** A problem that I can solve with Hapara is keeping my students' Google Docs organized and accessible to me. Without Hapara, I would not be able to monitor their work during an assignment and give them feedback throughout the process. I can also check on their progress before a final due date, and I can help students who struggle with organization keep all their docs in one place. I can also use Hapara to discourage students from playing games during class when they should be working. I can discreetly close their windows or send them a message without embarrassing them in front of the class. ### 17. Everyone tends to think about Highlights (which shows students' Chrome browsing activity) when they think about Hāpara. However, did you know that Hāpara has a filter that is AI-driven? Hapara Student Dashboard helps students organize Google Classroom assignments and announcements, as well as provides quick access to Google Drive files from ONE location. Student Dashboard also has the new Backpack feature that provides access to digital textbooks, books, and other resources. And Hāpara Workspace is a hidden gem to build digital lessons and curriculum. **What do you dislike about Hāpara?** I can't think of anything I dislike about Hāpara. **What problems is Hāpara solving and how is that benefiting you?** Teaching embedded digital citizenship. We were provided Hapara for about a year for classroom use, and being able to see students and group them in classes was helpful. While using functions to control student browsing or monitor or attempt to lock screens, many times students seemed to evade the software by switching browsers or clicking out. I discontinued use about a year ago, but there were some promising features in development. The ability to monitor the students the moment it was turned on and pushed to the chromebooks was perfect. You are able to control what windows are up on the client laptops, monitor, screenshot, disable and more. You can deploy projects, pages, search results and more. The customer service of Hapara is great as well. **What do you dislike about Hāpara?** Not much to dislike other than the interface can be a little confusing at times. Going in and setting up classrooms and then managing users and teachers can be a tad clunky but simply requires a little bit of a learning curve. The documentation on how to do this wasn't straight forward at first either but eventually it appears they amended them. **Recommendations to others considering Hāpara:** Be sure to stay close in contact with the management and support staff. If you have ANY questions, do not hesitate to ask.
