It shows all the jobs and internships available near to that particular University. For example, if a student goes to Arizona State University, it shows all the available jobs near ASU. I like the easy of sorting information on Handshake. As someone who is looking for a job, is easy to apply certain parameters to make sure the job is in the right location, field, etc. and the results have high fidelity as long as there are not too many parameters stacked. I don't like that Handshake is concentrated around graduating or current college students. It has a lot of resources, but is very much catered to summer internships and entry-level jobs, making it less useful to individuals who are looking for a second job or later. Handshake has really transformed the way our office functions. Prior to Handshake, we kept track of appointments, workshops, event attendance, and career fairs in a variety of places. Handshake does not allow universities to customize the platform, therefore it is impossible to brand it to your university. Handshake also has discontinued the mentor feature, which were about to roll-out, and replace it with a community style question and answer forum. This service would be much more beneficial if you were able to limit questions and answers to the students and alumni from your specific school. There is also no way of pulling data on drop-ins unless you contact your Handshake rep directly. We also do not utilize their first destination survey feature because it requires students to login to their account to complete the survey, therefore we use our own process.
