Hallwise is a digital hall pass system for K-12 schools that works with Google Classroom. It is free for one teacher and $999 per year flat for a whole school, with no per-student fees. How it works: students tap their name on a shared Chromebook by the classroom door, or open a link in Google Classroom on their own Chromebook. Students never create accounts, log in or install an app. Class rosters sync from Google Classroom, or a teacher can add a roster by hand. Setup takes under 5 minutes and needs no help from IT. What teachers and administrators see: every hall pass starts a live timer that turns red after 10 minutes. On the School plan, administrators get a school-wide live view of every student who is out of class, where they are going and for how long. Hallwise keeps a full hall pass history that exports to Excel, and shows which students have spent the most time out of class today and over the last 7 days. Hall pass controls: schools can limit how many students are out at once, per class or per destination, stop two named students from being out at the same time, require teacher approval before a hall pass starts, and switch on lockdown mode to block new passes during an emergency. Pricing: the Solo plan is free for one teacher and is not a trial. The School plan is $999 per year for any school size, with unlimited teachers and passes and no setup fee. Schools get a 60-day trial with no payment required and can pay by invoice, purchase order or card. Student privacy: Hallwise tracks hall passes, not student location. Student data is never sold and there are no ads. Hallwise is FERPA-aligned and signs data privacy agreements (NDPA framework) on request. What Hallwise is not: it is a hall pass only. It runs in a web browser with no phone app, does not connect to PowerSchool, Clever or other student information systems, and has no flex-period scheduling.
