## About Gusto Onboarding

Gusto Onboarding is a comprehensive employee and contractor onboarding solution built into the Gusto HR and payroll platform, designed specifically for small and medium-sized businesses. It enables employers to recruit, hire, and onboard new team members entirely within a single, integrated system — eliminating the need for manual paperwork, disconnected tools, or repetitive data entry. At its core, Gusto Onboarding allows employers to invite new hires to self-onboard digitally. Once an admin enters basic information such as the employee's name, salary, and email address, Gusto sends the new hire an invitation to complete their own onboarding — including e-signing required tax forms like the W-4 and I-9, setting up direct deposit, and selecting benefits. All signed documents are securely stored in the Gusto account for easy reference and audit readiness. The platform features customizable onboarding checklists that give every new hire a single, reliable list of tasks to complete. Admins can include Gusto's pre-populated best-practice tasks, add their own custom items, delegate tasks to team members, and set due dates (before Day 1, on Day 1, or after Day 1). Checklists can be tailored by employee type, department, work state, and employment classification, ensuring each new hire receives a relevant and role-appropriate experience. Gusto Onboarding also includes built-in hiring tools: employers can publicly post job listings, track applicants, and send customized offer letters directly from the platform. When a candidate is ready to be hired, Gusto automatically transitions them into payroll — removing the need to re-enter data across systems. For document management, Gusto allows admins to share documents and request electronic signatures instantly from anywhere. All forms — including offer letters, employee handbooks, and compliance documents — are stored securely in the Gusto account. Automated new-hire reporting is handled in all 50 U.S. states, keeping businesses compliant with state regulations. Software provisioning (and deprovisioning) is another key capability: admins can create or remove employee accounts for connected third-party tools in just a few clicks, streamlining IT setup for new hires before their first day. This feature is available on the Plus plan and above. New hire check-ins are also built into the onboarding workflow, allowing admins to track how new team members are settling in during their first 90 days through a private, running record of ratings and notes visible only to authorized admins. Gusto Onboarding integrates directly with leading applicant tracking systems (ATS), allowing HR teams to sync candidate data and import new hires into payroll without manual re-entry. Background checks are available through a built-in integration with Checkr. The platform supports onboarding for both W-2 employees and 1099 contractors, including international contractors across 120+ countries. Contractor onboarding includes form signing, new hire report submission, and year-end 1099 filing support. Overall, Gusto Onboarding is designed to reduce administrative burden, ensure compliance, create a consistent and welcoming new hire experience, and tightly integrate the hiring-to-payroll workflow — all within one platform purpose-built for growing small businesses.

"Clean, Centralized Time Tracking That Keeps Work Admin Simple"

4.5/5

What do you like best about Gusto?

Gusto has a clean, organized interface that makes it straightforward to navigate the dashboard and access time-tracking features. Logging hours and reviewing my work schedule is simple and helps me stay organized.

Having time tracking and other employment-related information available within the same platform reduces the need to switch between multiple tools and keeps important work details centralized.

The time-tracking features make it convenient to record and review my hours. Having my work hours organized digitally reduces manual tracking and helps me maintain accurate records of my weekly workload.

While I have limited visibility into Gusto's overall pricing, the convenience of digital time tracking and centralized employment information can help reduce administrative work and save time.

The platform provides a centralized place to access work-related information, which is helpful when getting started with a new role and learning the processes for tracking hours.

I have not used Gusto's AI-specific features extensively, so I cannot evaluate them firsthand. However, the platform's digital organization and time-tracking capabilities help make routine work administration more efficient.

Overall, Gusto helps simplify time tracking, keep work information organized, and make managing my weekly hours more convenient. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Gusto?

One area that could be improved is adding more flexibility and visibility to the time-tracking features—for example, clearer weekly summaries and simpler access to past time records. I’ve also found that some features can feel less useful depending on an employee’s role or on how the employer has configured the platform. Overall, my experience with Gusto has been positive, but more customization options and more detailed reporting would make it even more useful. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?

Gusto simplifies time tracking and keeps important employment information organized in one place. Being able to log and review my work hours makes it easier to keep an eye on my weekly schedule, maintain accurate records, and stay accountable for my workload. It cuts down on manual tracking, so I spend less time on administrative tasks and more time focusing on my actual work. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Simple, Straightforward Access to Pay and Tax Documents"

3.5/5

What do you like best about Gusto?

It is a easy way to view my important documents, my pay information, anything to do with tax info, etc. It also provides extra features like being able to view my paycheck early if I wanted to, although I don't use these. I like how it is a simple program that gives me exactly what I want, and doesn't force me to dig through tons of different pages. I don't do too much with any of the more in depth parts of Gusto like Pricing, Integrations, UI/UX, so I can't really speak to those. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Gusto?

I don't see any immediate things I dislike with Gusto. It is a fairly simple platform (with the ways that I use it), and I like it to function that way, so it works well for me. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?

Gusto helps me see my financial information in a quick and easy way, and lets me access saved documents, see how much of my pay is going where, etc. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Easy to Use, Low-Cost HR Software with Amazing Support"

5/5

What do you like best about Gusto?

Gusto is easy to use, offers amazing support for any questions, is a low-cost option for Human Resources software, and continues to roll-out new features. We use it for all of our HR needs. It's easy to learn, easy to implement, and has great integrations available. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Gusto?

I haven't found any downsides of Gusto and have been using it for almost 5 years. They've always been able to assist me in anything I needed. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?

Gusto is solving all of our HR needs for our remote nonprofit, with staff all throughout the United States. It is low-cost, allowing us to keep our overhead cost at a minimum and providing us the opportunity to use more of our resources (time and money) for other aspects of the organization. It is easy for contractors and staff members, and decreases the amount of time we need to spend on HR work. It also allows us to send documents to staff and have them sign them directly through Gusto - decreasing time and money for other software needs for the same work. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Gusto Makes Pay, Taxes, Time Off, and Expenses Effortlessly Easy"

5/5

What do you like best about Gusto?

I love how easy and straightforward Gusto is to use. As an employee, I mainly use it to view my paychecks, download tax documents, manage time off, and submit expense reimbursements. Everything I need is organized in one place, and the interface feels genuinely intuitive. I don’t have to waste time hunting for information or trying to figure out how to complete basic tasks. Overall, it makes the administrative side of work incredibly convenient and hassle-free. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Gusto?

I honestly don't have many complaints. Gusto does everything I need it to do as an employee. If I had to mention one limitation, it would be that I primarily use the employee-facing features, so I can't speak to how well the payroll administration and HR management tools work from an employer's perspective. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?

Gusto makes it easy to manage several important employment-related tasks without having to contact HR or payroll for assistance. I can quickly review my pay history, access tax documents when needed, submit expenses, and manage my time off all from one platform. It saves time, keeps everything organized, and makes the entire process much more efficient. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Gusto Makes Payroll, Banking, and Multi-State Taxes Simple"

5/5

What do you like best about Gusto?

Gusto is fundamentally easier than most other payroll and direct deposit options I've used in the past.

For one, you get access to some very solid banking options - their transfer system is super easy, you get very solid interest rates on your deposits (if you choose to bank with them), and the paycheck splitter option is super easy!

Additionally, the W-2 management is super simple!

Finally, from an employer end, it's really easy to coordinate all of the unique (and very complicated) taxes and withholdings needed by the various states and local governments. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Gusto?

My only complaint about Gusto is a bit of a loophole in their W4 process. You can fill out a W4 via the App on your phone - but you \*cannot\* finalize it without signing into the web browser.

This has caused some issues with staff members' taxes later in the year (I even had the problem my first tax season), as it doesn't look like anything is wrong when you're in the app. I suppose an email nudge about needing to sign-off would be helpful! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?

The problem of having a very simple and effective all-in-one option for folks who need banking services and to get paid. I've worked for plenty of employers who just default to a prepaid Debit Card for payroll, and that's just a bit thin. Gusto allows your employees to \*also\* have a bank account for those deposits, and access to savings, budgeting tools, etc. It's really nice to see that level of care. "Intuitive UI, Great Performance, and Seamless Onboarding with Gusto"

5/5

What do you like best about Gusto?

The user interface is very organized & intuitive. You can easily find any information you are looking for. My employers are getting a great value from this software. The performance of the site is great with its AI features & I've never experienced any downtime. I mostly quickly go to the pay tab to preview my check where the "view statistics" tab in the upper right quickly summarizes my YTD pay. I'm also able to quickly switch to a former employer & compare my current pay to where I was a few years ago. Gusto also made onboarding a simple task by providing all the forms needed to get me going in a simple to fill out form. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Gusto?

I have had no problems with the Gusto experience. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?

It's great to be able to have all my pay & tax information in one spot. It's much easier than keeping paper copies of paystubs. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Gusto Makes Onboarding, Time Tracking, and Getting Paid a Breeze"

4/5

What do you like best about Gusto?

The aesthetics are pleasing, and it's extremely user friendly. Both the app and the website are easy to navigate, and straight forward enough that even technically challenged individuals should be able to utilize it easily. I personally don't have any integrations with it, but have used it for two separate employers and it definitely has been a breeze to get paid and to track time. I'm not involved at the pricing level, but appreciate it's reliability across both web and app. I was onboarded by my CEO to Gusto and it maybe took 5 minutes (if that) to get completely onboarded, and set up. I haven't needed help since. I also really appreciate that I can update my tax documents for our accountant inside the system and not have to do that on paper! Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Gusto?

I'm an hourly employee using Gusto, it can be frustrating to have to go through so many pages just to get to the "clock in" feature. I wish that it opened straight to the "clock in page" so I can just keep rolling from there. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?

It tracks my hours well and makes it easy to adjust my hours weekly! I appreciate how user friendly it is. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Love the Dashboard Overview—Everything in One Place"

5/5

What do you like best about Gusto?

I love the dashboard overview. I can see everything from when my paycheck will be deposited to the amount I have in my Gusto Spending account. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Gusto?

For the most part, I like most things about Gusto. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?

It relieves the stress of knowing when my paycheck will hit from my employer. Past employers would pay late or I would have to send them a reminder. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Reliable and Intuitive Workforce Management"

5/5

What do you like best about Gusto?

I really like Gusto's clean and intuitive user interface. Clocking in and out takes just seconds, making it really efficient for daily tasks. Finding my past pay stubs or tax forms is incredibly easy, which I find very convenient. The platform is reliable, fast, and completely hassle-free, and it solves the problem of manual time-tracking by providing a reliable digital way to ensure my hours are always accurate. Also, the initial setup was very easy for me. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Gusto?

The platform works very well for my daily needs, but the mobile web interface could be optimized further to make clocking in and out even faster on the go. The mobile layout can feel a bit crowded on smaller screens. Making the clock-in and clock-out buttons larger and placing them right at the top of the mobile homepage would make logging hours much faster. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?

Gusto solves manual time-tracking issues, providing an accurate digital clock-in and out system. It eliminates the hassle of finding pay stubs and tax forms by offering them in one secure portal. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Aesthetic, Easy to Use, and Seamless for Business Owners and Employees"

5/5

What do you like best about Gusto?

I love how aesthetic it is and how easy it is to use.

As a business owner, we’ve tried other software that wasn’t user-friendly at all, and I felt like I spent more time trying to figure it out than working on other tasks to help the business grow. With gusto, once everything is set up, it only takes a few steps to get things done. There are also SOOO many help articles, and they’re genuinely useful, so I hardly ever need to contact customer support. When I do reach out, though, the problem gets resolved the first time.

I love the integrations with checkr specifically, doing background checks was a pain before using gusto, and now it's just a click of a button!

Honestly, we don't even think about the price, it's worth it and because of how easy it is to use, we've never considered switching. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about Gusto?

One of the things that I wish gusto had was better mobile time tracking, specifically integrating all the time tracking features that are included in the desktop on the mobile app such as project tracking. Right now our employees have to be on the desktop app to use the project tracking features, but they all say it would be helpful if they could just use the mobile app. Also I've noticed that the mobile app sometimes takes a long time to load, so as far as performance goes, that could be improved. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?

Before using gusto, we were using a software that was with a small local company. At first, everything was working fine when I had a lot of support, but after the onboarding I got lost and was always needing help navigating the system and knowing what to do about a new situation. With gusto, I honestly don't remember onboarding, but I know that once we were onboarded everything was so easy, and if I ever ran into an issue I could usually find the answer on the help articles/videos and if not, customer support was amazing. Also, the integrations solved a lot of problems for us as well. Before using gusto, we were spending a lot of time doing HR tasks and payroll tasks, when we could have been spending time making money and building the business. Now we don't have to worry about HR and payroll nearly as much, and it has given us peace of mind. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.
