## Gusto Reviews
 ### 1. I will never use another payroll provider unless something very drastic changes at Gusto.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jody C. | Bookkeeper, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 20, 2025

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

Gusto continues to beat out any other payroll provider I've ever used, after three years of experience with them. The website is simple and intuitive to use; the app gives all our employees a "self service" kind of experience. We haven't had any issues whatsoever with tax payments being made to the correct organizations, or with forms being filed correctly or on time. In a couple instances, I actually had the wrong tax percentage entered for our state unemployment insurance, and Gusto caught the error and corrected without any additional action from me. It all runs smooth as silk. On the rare occasion I need to contact them, it takes almost no time to get a smart and relatable human on the phone. I have at no time been punted to another person or had to call a second time, etc. They are great!

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

One thing I wish they would do is combine the websites for Gusto and Guideline, which have now merged, so we don't have so many logins. Two logins for each of our businesses adds up. Additionally, with Guideline, now referred to as "Gusto by Guideline," PLEASE add the ability to enter an SSN for a beneficiary. Just entering a name and classifying the relationship does not impart any confidence whatsoever that that person will be contacted if the account holder does pass away.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Gusto for payroll at two companies, and both integrated seamlessly with Guideline 401(k) management. Recently, Gusto and Guideline have merged, but I don't expect to notice much of a difference since it was already flawless before.

 ### 2. Payroll mostly ok, service not so much

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Tom L. | Owner, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 27, 2022

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

I like the service is fairly simple to use for when you need to run payroll. There are automated tools that do work but they require some fine tuning around timing, especially for international contractors.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

Before allowing international contractors to change their mode of processing you should notify the company. We've had contractors change to another payment option and it costs us more money. We may be ok with that depending on the situation but notice would be best.

**Recommendations to others considering Gusto:**

Don't let the simplicity of Gusto fool you into thinking it's not enough. Behind the scenes, the Gusto system is comprehensive and ready for companies to scale. As always, do your research to make sure what Gusto offers meets your company's needs.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Our primary issue was needing simple payroll that was easy for our admins to complete. We're seeing a serious time savings when running payroll and our employees love the new interface. However, state filing has not been good. we have had a couple of occasions over the past 6 months where we were charged late fees by a state. Gusto points the finger at anyone but themselves.

 ### 3. My experience with Gusto

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Amanda B. | Payroll Specialist, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 24, 2025

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

I am a Payroll Specialist for an Accounting and Bookkeeping firm, so I use Gusto along with another well known platform to perform all of my payroll tasks. I can say that there are certain things that I like a lot more on Gusto then on the other platform, such as ease of navigation across the platform, helpful, generally knowledgeable and friendly customer service and multiple different options of contacting customer service including chat, (which I use most frequently) email, phone call (when the lines are open) or a call back feature. They have a pretty helpful knowledgebase if you are trying to resolve an issue on your own as well. I did utilize their certification programs when I was first learning how to navigate Gusto as well, which I found very helpful and being able to add the badge to my signature lets our clients know that I have done my due diligence to learn the ins and outs of the Gusto platform. Gusto has a ton of useful features to offer it's clients, and we also use Gusto for our own payroll platform, so I use it as a user as well as an Administrative role and find ease of navigation to be across the board as both types of users.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

So far with my personal experience, there have been a few areas that could use improvement. I have had a few encounters with customer support, primarily through chat, that have given out incorrect information which lead to further interactions needed with customer support for the same issue. There have been numerous bugs and issues on the site that I have needed to report as well. There are still a few features that clients would like to see Gusto develop, such as options for Roth 401k deductions (post-tax), as one example. I have also been told on numerous occasions by customer support that I would be contacted further about a specific issue, and never heard back from anyone regarding my case. I have also requested call backs and never received any call back.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We have been able to sell a lot of our clients on Gusto's payroll services, which helps our business grow and gives our clients confidence in our abilities to handle their payroll with precision and care on a trustworthy and fairly priced platform.

 ### 4. Helpful Notifications, Slow Support Response

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Legal Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 25, 2025

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

I use Gusto for Flexible Spending Account (FSA) purposes and appreciate how it helps me get reimbursed for health and dependent care FSA expenses. I find the notifications particularly helpful, as they ensure I stay updated with important information. I like that they utilize email and have a red alert on the site when further information is needed, making it easy to respond promptly. The initial setup of Gusto was pretty easy, which made transitioning to using it smooth and efficient.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

The appeal process in Gusto takes a long time and there is little follow-up provided. Additionally, reaching out to support via email does not yield timely responses.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Gusto to get reimbursed for health expenses and for dependent care expenses with helpful notifications that prompt action when information is needed.

 ### 5. I have been using Gusto for 5 years and I have zero reason to change that.

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Health, Wellness and Fitness | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 15, 2025

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

Gusto has truly transformed our business operations. The automated payroll feature is a standout, saving us valuable time and providing total peace of mind that our team is always paid punctually. Additionally, the seamless integration with QuickBooks makes accounting and reconciliation completely effortless. Handling reimbursements has also become incredibly straightforward, eliminating chaotic spreadsheets and endless email chains. Ultimately, Gusto has streamlined our back office, making it vastly more efficient and stress-free.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

While my overall experience with customer service has been positive, the wait times can occasionally be quite long. Additionally, onboarding a new employee in a state where we aren't currently registered is a cumbersome process. If Gusto could streamline the setup with local tax authorities to make multi-state onboarding easier, it would drastically improve the user experience.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gusto makes onboarding a breeze. My favorite feature is the auto payroll. This saves us time every week with both the processing and reconciling via the Quickbooks integration.

 ### 6. Keeping my bank info after canceling

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Brandon S. | Founder, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 27, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

it has a decent interface that I didn't hate

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

Unacceptable Data Retention Policy — 1 Star
After canceling my Gusto account, I attempted to remove my banking information from their platform. To my surprise, Gusto's policy allows them to retain your banking details even after you've closed your account and are no longer using their services.
As a former customer, I have no ongoing relationship with Gusto, yet they insist on holding onto sensitive financial information I never consented to keep on file post-cancellation. This feels like a serious violation of consumer trust.
My issues with this policy:

No opt-out: There is no way to delete your own banking information upon account closure.
Lack of transparency: This policy is buried and not made clear during the cancellation process.
Unnecessary risk: Retaining sensitive data for inactive accounts creates unnecessary exposure in the event of a data breach.

Businesses should only hold onto sensitive financial data for as long as there is an active customer relationship. Keeping it beyond that — without a clear legal obligation or the customer's explicit consent — is, in my opinion, unreasonable and should be revisited by regulators.
I would caution anyone considering Gusto to be aware of this policy before handing over their banking details.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

helping with payroll compliance

 ### 7. Simple and reliable way to receive and track my payments

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Solange S. | Sales Representative, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 26, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

What I like best about Gusto is how easy it is to track my payments. I can see my pay history, upcoming payments, and tax documents all in one place without having to ask my employer for anything. The direct deposit is reliable and always arrives on time, which gives me peace of mind. I also appreciate how clean and simple the platform looks ,everything is organized and easy to understand, even if you’re not familiar with payroll systems.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

One thing I dislike about Gusto is that there are limited customization options for notifications, so sometimes I would like more control over how and when I receive updates. Also, some sections, like tax documents or payment details, can take a few extra clicks to find at first. It’s not a major issue, but improving navigation and making certain information more accessible would make the experience even better. Overall, these are small inconveniences compared to how reliable and easy the platform is to use.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gusto solves the problem of having to manually track payments, pay stubs, and tax documents. Instead of asking my employer for payment records, everything is available in one place, including my pay history and tax forms. This makes it much easier to stay organized and manage my financial records.
It also makes payments more reliable through direct deposit, so I know exactly when I will get paid. I receive notifications and can see payment details clearly, which gives me peace of mind and helps me plan my finances better. Additionally, having access to my pay stubs and tax documents anytime is very helpful, especially during tax season.
Gusto saves time, reduces confusion, and makes receiving and managing my payments simple and convenient.

 ### 8. Effortless, Intuitive HR & Payroll Automation with Gusto

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** David P. | Workforce & Project Support Specialist, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 24, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

What I like most about Gusto is how effortless and intuitive it makes HR and payroll tasks. The platform is clean, modern, and easy for both admins and employees to navigate. Onboarding new hires is especially smooth — from sending offer letters to collecting tax forms and setting up direct deposit, everything is organized in one place and automated.
I also love that Gusto handles all the tax filings and compliance behind the scenes. It removes so much stress from payroll processing, and I never have to worry about missing deadlines or making manual calculations.
The employee self‑service features are another huge win. Team members can update their info, access pay stubs, review benefits, and manage documents without having to ask HR for help — which saves everyone time.
Overall, Gusto combines simplicity, automation, and great design in a way that makes HR tasks feel easy instead of overwhelming

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

• Limited customization in certain HR features
Some workflows—like onboarding templates, permissions, or document management—feel more rigid than they need to be. You sometimes have to work within Gusto’s structure instead of tailoring things fully to your organization.
• Customer support can be slow during busy times
Support quality is generally good, but response times can lag, especially around quarter‑end or tax season. Waiting for help when dealing with urgent payroll questions can be stressful.
• Reporting options could be more robust
The basic reports work fine, but deeper analytics, custom fields, or multi‑period comparisons are more limited than in some other HR systems. It can take extra steps to get the exact data you want.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gusto has helped streamline several major HR and payroll challenges that used to take a lot of manual time and effort. One of the biggest improvements is automated payroll and tax compliance. Instead of chasing deadlines, calculating withholdings, or worrying about filings, Gusto handles the heavy lifting behind the scenes. This reduces errors and gives me peace of mind knowing everything is done correctly and on schedule.
Another major problem Gusto solves is employee onboarding. Collecting documents, sending out tax forms, setting up direct deposit, and ensuring new hires have everything they need used to be a patchwork of emails and PDFs. Now the entire process is centralized and automated. It creates a smoother experience for new employees and saves a significant amount of administrative time.
Gusto also simplifies HR recordkeeping and employee self‑service. Team members can update their own information, access paystubs, view PTO balances, and complete onboarding tasks without needing HR involvement. This reduces interruptions, keeps information accurate, and empowers employees to manage their own data.
Finally, Gusto helps solve the issue of inconsistent or fragmented HR workflows. Having payroll, benefits, onboarding, and documents all in one platform has made everything more organized and easier to track. That consistency has improved accuracy, reduced duplicate work, and created a cleaner process overall.

 ### 9. An Intuitive HR Platform That Scales with Your Team

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Nicole N. | Business Operations Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 19, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

We have found Gusto to be a highly intuitive and reliable payroll and HR platform. One of the most helpful aspects is the ease of use—for both administrators and employees. Payroll processing is straightforward, reporting is customizable, and the interface is clean and user-friendly.

Gusto’s onboarding tools are particularly valuable, allowing new hires to complete all required documentation electronically, which streamlines our internal processes. The integration of benefits administration, time tracking, and payroll in one system reduces manual work and helps ensure accuracy.

Customer support has also been responsive and helpful when needed. Overall, Gusto simplifies payroll and HR administration while providing transparency and efficiency for both the employer and employees.

Implementation was straightforward and efficient. The onboarding process was well guided, and the system setup for payroll, benefits, and employee profiles was intuitive. For a small to mid-sized organization, Gusto makes it easy to transition without requiring significant technical resources.

Gusto is used regularly across our organization. Administrators use it consistently for payroll processing, reporting, onboarding, and benefits management, while employees access it for pay stubs, tax forms, benefits enrollment, and time tracking. It has become a central platform for day-to-day HR operations.

Gusto integrates well with common accounting and benefits platforms, which helps streamline workflows and reduce manual data entry. The integrations are generally smooth, though some more complex or niche systems may require additional configuration or workarounds.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

While Gusto is generally user-friendly, there are a few areas that could be improved. One limitation is flexibility—certain workflows (such as contractor classifications, time tracking nuances, or benefit eligibility rules) can feel somewhat rigid and not fully customizable to more complex organizational needs.

Reporting, while functional, can sometimes require building custom reports to extract specific data, and advanced reporting capabilities are not as robust as some larger HRIS platforms.

Additionally, support response times can vary depending on the complexity of the issue, and resolving more technical matters may take longer than expected.

For growing companies with increasingly complex HR, compliance, or multi-state requirements, Gusto may lack some of the deeper functionality offered by enterprise-level systems.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gusto helps us streamline and centralize payroll, benefits administration, onboarding, and compliance management. Prior to using Gusto, many of these processes required manual tracking and coordination across multiple systems. Gusto consolidates these functions into one platform, reducing administrative burden and minimizing the risk of payroll or compliance errors.

The platform also improves transparency for employees by giving them direct access to pay stubs, tax forms, benefits information, and time tracking. This reduces back-and-forth communication and allows our team to focus on higher-value operational priorities rather than routine administrative tasks.

Additionally, Gusto supports compliance with state and federal payroll requirements, helping ensure timely tax filings and accurate recordkeeping—critical for a growing organization.

 ### 10. Simple Payroll

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Non-Profit Organization Management | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 31, 2025

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

What I like best about Gusto is how user-friendly and streamlined the entire platform is. Whether it’s running payroll, managing employee benefits, or handling onboarding tasks, everything is clearly laid out and easy to navigate. The automation features save time, and the compliance tools give peace of mind.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

While Gusto is a strong platform overall, there are a couple of areas that could be improved. One issue we've encountered is with customer support regarding our tax-exempt status. As a nonprofit organization, we should not be charged sales tax, but despite multiple attempts to resolve this, the process has been circular and unresolved. Additionally, while Gusto offers a wide range of features, the platform can be limited when it comes to advanced customization—particularly in generating and tailoring reports to specific organizational needs.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gusto is helping solve the complexity of payroll, benefits administration, and employee onboarding by bringing everything into one centralized, easy-to-use platform. It eliminates the need for juggling multiple systems or manual processes, which significantly reduces administrative time and the potential for errors. For our organization, this means we can stay compliant, ensure employees are paid accurately and on time, and focus more on strategic HR efforts rather than day-to-day tasks. The automation and reminders are especially helpful for staying on top of tax filings, benefits deadlines, and onboarding workflows.

 ### 11. Perfect HR Package for a midsize company

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jill M. | Human Resources Manager, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 05, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

This software is very user-friendly from both an administrator's and an employee's perspective. Its intuitive design makes it easy to navigate and use. The performance review processes and recruiting piece are very valuable tools. Tutorials are also very helpful

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

Getting in touch with customer service when I need assistance. Not being able to chat with a live person - getting answers can be challenging

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

This software has greatly simplified our payroll processing, allowing us to access payroll reports easily whenever we need them. The reports are set up to give the information we need and the ability to customize any report allows you to get broad or specific details, depending on your need.
Recruiting and performance review pieces are easy to manage

 ### 12. The Gusto product is quite acceptable and does a good job of organizing everything

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Latha S. | Co-Founder and Sales and Marketing Director, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 14, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

I would say the password management function is probably the best feature. I have like 15 log ins and can never remember any of them. This thing helps me out big time. And unlike our previous system, it's very readable; ours looked like an Excel sheet from 1999. When you are paid, Gusto emails you with a funny GIF in your work email – that is the only work email I ever open.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

Occasionally, the page takes too long to load. I swear my internet is dead. It just spins. I don’t like that I can’t view the exact date the money hits my bank account. It creates a lot of stress when rent is due. Also the support is simply a chatbot that emails me links to articles that I’ve already read which is very annoying as I just want to speak to someone.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It makes it so I don’t have to send HR an email for every little thing which is great for both of us. I’m able to access my employee benefits and tax documents through it instead of digging through my cluttered download files and it also keeps all of the payroll related issues organized so I don’t have to spend time worrying if my hours were logged correctly.

 ### 13. Recommend it to everyone I know!

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Krista W. | CEO, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 13, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

I’ve had nothing but a fantastic experience with Gusto for the past five years. As a small business owner wearing the HR hat myself, it’s made payroll and people management feel seamless and stress-free. I truly recommend it to everyone I know!

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

Support for the new benefits offer has been poor. There’s no connection to the new insurance company, and I haven’t received clear guidance on how I can get in touch with them.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

As a small team, Gusto solves the overwhelm of managing HR, payroll, and government tax filings on my own. It’s significantly reduced the time I spend on backend admin so I can focus on actually running and growing the business. And their newer benefits offerings have made it even easier to support my team without adding more complexity on my end.

 ### 14. Effortless Payroll and Tax Compliance for Small Businesses

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Bill R. | Founder/Principal Consultant, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 30, 2025

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

What I like best about Gusto is how simple and reliable it makes payroll and tax compliance. Running payroll is very straightforward, and the system clearly breaks down gross pay, employee deductions, employer taxes, and total employer cost, which is extremely helpful for budgeting and cash-flow planning. Automatic tax filings and reminders reduce the risk of missing deadlines, and the reporting tools make it easy to review payroll history and year-to-date totals. Overall, it saves time and reduces administrative stress for a small business.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

Some more complex payroll scenarios, such as retro payroll adjustments or correcting past payments, are not as intuitive and may require support or extra steps. While customer support is generally helpful, response times can vary depending on the issue. Additionally, certain advanced reporting or customization options could be expanded for businesses with more complex payroll needs.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gusto effectively addresses the challenges of managing payroll, handling tax calculations, and ensuring compliance with both federal and state regulations. By automating tax withholdings, filings, and payments, it helps minimize the chances of mistakes, penalties, or overlooked deadlines. The platform offers transparent insights into employee compensation, employer tax obligations, and overall payroll expenses, which greatly simplifies financial planning and year-end reporting. In summary, Gusto saves time, lessens administrative workload, and enables me to concentrate more on running my business rather than getting caught up in payroll management.

 ### 15. Reliable platform for payroll and HR administration

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Facilities Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 22, 2025

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

The platform is very intuitive and simplifies payroll processing, tax filings, and employee benefits administration in one place. The automated reminders and compliance features help reduce manual errors and ensure deadlines are met. I also appreciate the clean interface, which makes it easy for employees to access their paystubs, W-2s, and benefits information without HR involvement.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

While the system is strong overall, there are some limitations in customization for reporting, and occasionally the response time from customer service could be faster during high-volume periods. Integration with certain third-party tools also requires manual workarounds.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gusto has streamlined payroll, tax compliance, and employee onboarding, which previously required managing several separate systems and manual processes. By consolidating everything into one platform, it reduces administrative time, minimizes errors, and ensures compliance with federal and state requirements. Employees also benefit from self-service access to paystubs, benefits, and tax forms, which saves HR time and improves their experience. Overall, it has created efficiency, accuracy, and transparency in day-to-day HR operations.

 ### 16. All-in-One Payroll and Benefits Solution

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Tracy F. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 25, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

I love that everything is in one place with Gusto. I can easily look and see numbers, understand what each person is being paid, and check when they were last dismissed. It's convenient to have notes about their hiring and dismissals all right there. During my day-to-day activities, I'm able to take care of many things, even sending out birthday cards for employees. It's all right there, showing me the hire date, and whether it's an anniversary or a birthday, which is really helpful.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

We have had some issues with some documents on a Missouri tax employee. We couldn't seem to get them to take it off even though we didn't have an employee in Missouri. It was an accident that we clicked that, and it took about a month to get that off. And for Gusto to correct that.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gusto helps me run payroll, manage benefits, and resolve issues quickly, with everything in one place. It aids in hiring, dismissals, and accessing employee documents effortlessly.

 ### 17. Decent Tool for Small Business Payroll

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Liz N. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 22, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

I found Gusto to have pretty good support, which was really helpful when figuring out what I needed to do during setup, even though it took a little time. I also found it helpful to have the admin tab for logging in and being able to easily switch to an employee panel. The dashboards for both employer and employee were helpful to me.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

{"I was initially charged for the first two months and added an expense that I did not approve, and it required me following up multiple times to get that reimbursed and taken off the bill.","I'm still trying to figure out the integration part. It would be helpful if it better integrated in a free way with accounting software and retirement software."}

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Gusto for filing quarterly tax payments, running payroll, and tracking employee benefits like health care. It simplifies processing reimbursements and managing small business documents.

 ### 18. User-Friendly Payroll with Great Time Tracking, Benefits, and Top-Notch Support

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

Gusto is user friendly, for both the employer and the employees. It has great time tracking and benefit features. As the employer, I use Gusto almost daily and have found the customer support to be top notch, in the rare event I need them. Gusto provides helpful notifications about state registration and taxes that help us stay on top of things.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

The tasks on the landing page sometimes "stick" and only clear with the help of customer support. Some trigger repeatedly, despite contacting customer support and confirming it is not a task that applies to our company. I miss when Gusto partnered with CorpNet for state registration, I do not like the new provider as much.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gusto serves as our payroll portal, solves the problem of keeping track of time off of our many remote employees (where it's less obvious who is in an out of office. We are a small team and Gusto acts as an additional resource, like having someone else on the team.

 ### 19. User-Friendly Payroll Solution with Room for Growth

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Avery T. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 01, 2025

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

I use Gusto because the platform is user-friendly and intuitive. The dashboard makes payroll and employee management straightforward, and the automation features help save time while reducing mistakes. It feels organized and reliable, which makes running payroll much less stressful. The dashboard makes it easy to see payroll deadlines, employee information, and tax details all in one place, which helps me stay organized. The automation features are especially valuable because they handle tax calculations, filings, and recurring payroll runs with minimal manual input. This reduces the chance of errors and saves time, so I can focus on running the business instead of worrying about compliance or paperwork. Additionally, the initial setup of Gusto was fairly straightforward, with guided steps and clear instructions that made it easy to configure payroll settings.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

While Gusto works well overall, there are times when certain features can feel limited without upgrading to higher-tier plans. It would also be helpful to see more customization options in reporting and more flexibility in certain payroll settings. Improvements in response time during peak periods could make the experience even smoother.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gusto simplifies payroll processing, reduces errors, and saves time on admin work. It helps manage employee info and compliance in one place. Its user-friendly platform and automation features make payroll less stressful, though some features feel limited without upgrades.

 ### 20. User-Friendly Yet Challenging Setup Process

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Allison W.

**Reviewed Date:** February 18, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

I like the interface the most. I think it is very user-friendly and aesthetically pleasing. It makes receiving my pay super simple, and connecting my bank account to it is also a very smooth process. Gusto makes it super easy to clock in and out as well as add past hours in the current pay period, in a way that is efficient and very user-friendly.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

I think the initial setup was a bit difficult because I didn't receive the email to set up my account, which made it frustrating as I couldn't reach customer service without an account. I also believe it could be helpful to have future capabilities for adding features like sending messages to your boss about certain work periods or hours, and tagging portions of time.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gusto makes it super easy to clock in and clock out, and add past hours in the current pay period efficiently and user-friendly.

 ### 21. Effortless Payroll with Stellar Support for Small Businesses

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

I love how easy Gusto is to use, especially for a small company like ours that doesn't have the resources to manage payroll admin. It just makes our life easy. I also find their support to be reliable whenever I get weird requests from the state about payroll taxes. Plus, the initial setup was very easy.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

Opening in a new state is kind of a pain and Gusto has partners that charge $$ for this. I still have to do a lot of the work myself, even when I used Gusto's partner. I have to be the one to piece it all together, and it would be cool if Gusto just ran with the whole process without me having to lift a finger. I felt like I was the QB and did most of the thinking.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gusto simplifies payroll management for my small company, making it easy to handle admin tasks we don't have resources for. It's easy to use and offers reliable support, especially with complex payroll tax requests.

 ### 22. Gusto Streamlines HR and Payroll with an Easy, Evolving All-in-One Platform

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mara F. | Executive Director of Human Resources, Religious Institutions, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 18, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

Gusto makes it easy to manage most aspects of HR in one easy-to-use platform, streamlining our HR tech stack considerably, without sacrificing quality features or reliability. The thing I most appreciate about Gusto is that it's constantly evolving and expanding its features. For example, they recently added minister housing allowances as an additional earnings category, which helps us with compliance and more accurate reporting. Their app is also regularly updated with new functionality and features. As an admin, I can easily review and approve timesheets and run payroll from the app, which gives me the flexibility to be out and about with our staff instead of chained to my desk. As an HR department of one, I'm able to focus on the things only I can do because Gusto takes a lot of the routine administrative tasks off my plate.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

I wish there were more nuanced permissions/access for users, especially when it comes to billing/invoices. Some access is limited only to global admins, and it takes a bit of troubleshooting to figure out the right combination of settings to get someone access to a specific area. The other downside is that collaborators or third-party users aren't able to perform some managerial/admin functions that would be helpful to us. For example, we have a governing board that provides supervision and oversight to our Lead Pastor, but they're all unpaid volunteers. We had to add one of the board members as an employee to give them access to performance reviews. Since he's not paid staff, we have to manually skip him on payroll, but we're still billed for the additional employee in our monthly subscription. Not the end of the world, but a minor inconvenience.

Speaking of performance reviews, it would also be helpful if the linear scale questions could be automatically calculated to an average overall score, instead of just having the option for the manager to subjectively assign an overall score. It would take the human element out of the equation more effectively, reducing bias, and streamlining the administrative burden of manually calculating the average score for each employee.

There are some other quirks that have been ironed out over time, such as Roth 403(b) deductions calculating pre-tax instead of post-tax, and prior to the minister housing allowance update, gross earnings didn't include recurring reimbursements so percentage-based contributions were off. These things have been addressed, which is why we continue to be optimistic about our future with Gusto.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It's streamlining our tech stack so that almost all our HR activities are housed under one system. We were able to consolidate HR, payroll, time & attendance, performance management, feedback, reporting, and contractor payments/management, which helped us eliminate several other redundant and outdated systems. The customizability of most features is also a huge plus, since we work in a very niche area with lots of special circumstances and exceptions (faith-based non-profit). Many other systems don't have the flexibility to adapt to our needs without significant intervention from implementation specialists and customer support. I love that I can figure almost everything out on my own, but when I do need support, 99% of the time I get answers and solutions right away (same day). On the few occasions it's taken more than one day to resolve an issue, the follow up and responsiveness has been phenomenal. Customer support partners with me to solve the issue, which is refreshing when so many companies just point you to their help page and expect you to figure it out yourself. Every agent I've interacted with so far has been helpful, kind, professional, and competent.

 ### 23. Effortless Payroll with Gusto

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Transportation/Trucking/Railroad | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 14, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

I find Gusto convenient and easy to use. Its user interface and experience make my work easy and more enjoyable. It's straightforward to enter and edit information and handle payroll tasks. The simplicity is great—just one or two clicks and everything's done. Pricing is simple and inexpensive compared to competitors, and I've negotiated to confirm it's the best price.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

One thing that could be improved is the editing function. Let's say that I want to edit my payroll information or historical information or any kind of information about the payroll. Most cases, I will be able to do that. But sometimes, I should contact the support team and talk or chat with them, or write an email, and then they can fix it for me. I think they should give us access to edit our own information and profiles.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gusto gives me faster payroll transfers and an easygoing process of preparing and filing tax forms to the IRS.

 ### 24. User-Friendly Payroll with Some Room for Improvement

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sierra J.

**Reviewed Date:** February 17, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

I use Gusto for payroll and commissions. It runs payroll for me, so I don't need to do it manually and sends the necessary information to the state and federal agencies for taxes. I appreciate that it prompts me to update things as needed. The layout looks nice and, having used other payroll companies, I find Gusto to be the most user-friendly. It seems to work well overall, and I'm happy with it. The initial setup was easy.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

It's frustrating that when I add an employee from out of state it won't give you an estimate for the cost to have Gusto do the paperwork. Paperwork necessary is not clear when I want to do it on my own. Some links don't work. Staff sometimes seems to be reading off a script vs. critical thinking when support is needed. Reports could be improved. I can't remember what I was trying to find but there have been a few occasions where I've wanted to look at something and was not able to find a way to easily view it in a report. Had to manually look up and create my own spreadsheet which is time-consuming.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gusto runs payroll automatically, handles necessary state and federal tax submissions, and prompts for updates, which saves me from doing these tasks manually.

 ### 25. Easy to Use, But Not the Most Affordable

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** amit o. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 16, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

I find Gusto very easy to use, which is great for both me and my employees. It's straightforward to navigate, and I appreciate how much simpler it is compared to other platforms I've experienced. The navigation is very good, making tasks like entering hours and processing payroll very convenient, especially with about eight to ten employees who are either full-time, per diem, or contractors. Additionally, I like the app, which is very helpful.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

Gusto is not as affordable as I initially thought. Coming from ADP, a premium payroll service, I expected Gusto to be cheaper, but it's often the same price or more. Additionally, their customer service could be better. Sometimes when my office calls, the reps don't seem to know exactly what they're talking about or they put us on a long hold.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Gusto for payroll and compliance. It's very easy to use, making it simple for employees to navigate. The ease of use was the main reason we switched, as it's more user-friendly than other compliant platforms.

 ### 26. Easy Setup, Responsive Support, Room for Improvement

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Brian R. | Brand Ambassador, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 15, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

I find Gusto generally very easy to use, allowing me to get a lot done quickly without much bureaucratic hassle. It's straightforward and easy to use. My employees can access it for everything from onboarding to managing their own money and using it for time clock purposes, regardless of where they are. This is quite useful to me because it means I don't have to hire someone else or spend a lot of my own time on these things. The setup of Gusto was super easy, and it walked me through very quickly with a user-friendly interface. It's well thought out to keep it manageable for small business owners like me. Gusto has been very good in addressing certain issues, and it efficiently handles many small tasks automatically, which ADP didn't. It also resolves platform problems quickly, getting us what we need in a prompt manner.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

Frequently, they make changes to the platform that require some better testing, particularly when they implement things like the AI. The button even to access Gus was completely shut down, and then they don't offer a backup phone number that's easily available. The only way to get that phone number was through Gus, where the button wasn't working. Things like that they do periodically have issues. But, again, it was resolved within about six hours.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Gusto for its straightforward ease of use, quickly handling tasks without bureaucratic hassle. It lets employees manage their onboarding, payroll, and time clock, saving me from hiring extra help and reducing the time I spend on transactions.

 ### 27. Easy Payroll and Tax Management with a Few Hiccups

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Emilee C.

**Reviewed Date:** February 14, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

I use Gusto for work and find it so easy and smooth, especially for getting paid and filing tax returns. I definitely recommend it for these tasks. I appreciate how easy it is to access and use Gusto. I love that I can just login with my Face ID and get right to where I want to be. It's so easy to change my information, and Gusto keeps me updated through email to make sure I am the person making those changes. Additionally, setting up Gusto was pretty easy.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

I've had some issues with Gusto and my deposit settings. I think they should have a time frame for when you can add or change details to your deposit settings so that way you don't have to wait days after payday to even start getting your money back. They've also yet to figure out why I haven't gotten my money.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Gusto for easy check splitting, managing payments, filing tax returns, and keeping updated on my taxes. It's easy to access, change personal information, and log in securely with Face ID.

 ### 28. Comprehensive Payroll Solution with Setup Challenges

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Nate L. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 20, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

I use Gusto primarily for its all-in-one portal that handles payroll, benefits, and compliance. I like the integration with Middesk for state compliance. Running payroll and managing tax withholdings are features I value, along with setting up new employees.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

I'm not a fan of Gusto's customer support and the unclear process of 'what's next' when getting set up with different offerings. I wish I had one representative to contact for everything, but I understand that's probably not feasible. Contacting and communicating with different folks for starting or finishing benefits enrollment, tech support, and other integrations can be time-intensive. Also, the initial setup was pretty good overall but took more time than I expected, likely due to benefits providers and external platforms.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Gusto for payroll, benefits, and compliance in one place, with integrations for state compliance. It lets me access business needs through a single portal.

 ### 29. Easy, Reliable Payroll That Makes Everything Straightforward

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Caitilin N. | Office Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 29, 2025

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

Gusto just makes payroll feel simple. Everything I need is in one spot, it’s easy to navigate, and I never feel like I’m fighting the system to get basic information. Direct deposits run smoothly, my pay breakdowns are clear, and I can pull up any document I need without digging around. It takes a lot of the usual hassle out of payroll and onboarding, which makes the whole process feel a lot more organized and dependable.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

Some of Gusto’s limitations show up when you’re trying to adjust tax or withholding settings — the system is pretty strict about what it will and won’t accept, which can be frustrating if you’re trying to match what the actual IRS form allows. A few parts of the platform feel a little too simplified, so getting to more detailed payroll info can take extra clicks. And when you do need support for something specific, the response time isn’t always consistent, which can slow things down when you’re trying to sort out a more complicated question.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gusto takes a lot of the mental load out of payroll and paperwork. Instead of juggling tax forms, digging for old paystubs, or trying to figure out what needs to be updated, everything is just…there, organized and easy to get to. It handles the calculations, the filings, and the reminders I would normally have to track myself, which saves me time and keeps me from making mistakes. Overall, it cuts down on busywork and lets me focus on my actual job instead of chasing down HR details.

 ### 30. Straightforward Self-Service with a Clear, Easy Election Process

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 22, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

Overall, it’s very straightforward to use. Whenever I have questions about my employment, I can usually find the answers somewhere on the page without needing to reach out to an administrator. The election process is also clear and easy to follow.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

If I get stuck, it’s not really clear where I should go or who I should talk to in order to get my questions answered. I also wish they offered more recommendations or resources to support decision-making, especially since these are important decisions to make.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gusto takes a lot of the busy administrative work off our startup’s plate. We can’t afford to have entire roles dedicated to these tasks, but they’re still really important, so the more we can remove from everyone’s day-to-day workload, the better. A ton of things work right out of the box, and it’s all pretty easy to manage.

 ### 31. User-Friendly Payroll Made Easy

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sire K. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 21, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

I like Gusto because the UI is very non-accountant friendly, which makes it easy for me to use since I'm not an accountant. The account set-up is very good, and it’s helpful that I don't have to travel so far because I have employees all over. Gusto helps me with tax filings, the speed of payday for my employees, and managing the roster effectively. I also appreciate the ease of use even though the initial setup had some challenges.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

I had issues with the initial setup where we must input previous payroll. It would be helpful to have more details regarding it, or even better, someone who can guide us.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gusto solves tax filings, speeds up payday for employees, and manages rosters. The non-accountant friendly UI is great for me running payroll, and the account setup helps me handle employees remotely without traveling.

 ### 32. Gusto Makes Payroll Simple

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sarah S. | Bookkeeping Firm Owner, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 28, 2023

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

Gusto integrates well with accounting software and benefits. User interface is simple and makes running payroll a breeze.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

Newer reports have lost some details that are necessary and helpful, often requiring multiple reports to be run.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gusto's accountant profile makes managing many payroll companies easy! The interface is something anyone can use.

 ### 33. Poor Customer service

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** ShaQuita S. | Principal Firm Owner, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 15, 2025

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

I stopped using gusto due to a significant rate increase

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

Customer service response times and accuracy

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The biggest issue I have as a payroll provider to clients in multiple states is ensuring tax compliance, reporting, and payment remittance timely to each taxing authority. Gusto removes this headache by handing this for my office.

 ### 34. Easy Payroll and Tax Management at a Great Price

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sharmistha M. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 23, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

I like Gusto's competitive pricing, nice UI, and overall easy-to-use setup. The payroll feature is particularly valuable to me, as it automates sending payroll and helps with setting up all of the government and legal stuff, including taxes and forms, so I don't have to manually do most of the tax forms. The initial setup was relatively easy, which was a plus.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

I would say one part of Gusto that could improve is the setup with California EDD. Since I recently made the account, when it asks for a letter ID, I didn't have one which confused me. I would say it needs to be improved to account for new users of EDD.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gusto automates my payroll, provides an app for employees to track their clock-ins and breaks, and assists with taxes and forms, reducing my manual work.

 ### 35. Peace of Mind Knowing Everything Is Taken Care Of

**Reviewed by:** Brenda D. | Executive Director, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 18, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

the piece of mind that everything is taken care of

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

Although you are always able to get help, sometimes the help is not helpful. Easy things are fine and most of the time I do not need it but when you have a diffucult question sometimes you are routed to people who arenot listening and it takes forever but then other times you get someone who is great.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

payroll, it is easy to do once everything is set up my benefits my documents take care of them selved and it gives me time and peice of mind to do the things I need.

 ### 36. Gusto: Easy Setup and User-Friendly Interface

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Danielle R. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 19, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

I really like Gusto's platform because when I sign in, it's very easy to read and aesthetically pleasing to the eye. I think it's easy to use, and the information is clear and easy to find. The initial setup was easier than any other platform I've used before, particularly compared to ADP. Gusto makes it way more easy and clear for the user.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

I wish there was a way to ask questions about certain things. Like, if my boss didn't fix my payments and I didn't know it wasn't working, I wish I could have chatted with an AI chatbot or something to see if it was his error or Gusto's error, or who to talk to.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gusto helps me know when my paychecks are coming, how much they are, and when they'll arrive in my bank account.

 ### 37. Potential to be better with software updates and Intuitive Menus

**Rating:** 3.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Accounting | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 17, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

the dashboard, that I can see everything in one place, as well as seeing reminders I have to follow up on (supervisors to review payroll, upload documents etc).

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

That it takes customer service so long to respond if our acct rep is not around, when there are timely issues to resolve. That I cannot send messages easily in the software to remind employees of certain things to do. And that the software/portal does not hyperlink together - if I am reviewing payroll, and I then need to look up the person's info or their supervisor, I am constantly having to jump in and out of different menus, and have to go back all over again to the payroll dashboard to review.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It's getting payroll processed, and the taxes paid, so it's one less thing we have to do ourselves

 ### 38. Effortless Payroll and HR Management with Seamless Automation

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Dustin E. | Accountant, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 07, 2025

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

What I like best about Gusto is how seamlessly it combines payroll, HR, and benefits management in one user-friendly platform. The dashboard makes it easy to see upcoming payroll runs, tax filings, and employee changes all in one place. From a bookkeeping standpoint, the automatic syncing with QuickBooks Online saves significant time and reduces the chance of manual errors.

I also appreciate how Gusto handles all federal, state, and local tax filings automatically, including year-end W-2s and 1099s, which minimizes compliance risk. From an HR perspective, tools like onboarding checklists, e-signing new-hire documents, and employee self-service portals make the experience smoother for both administrators and staff.

Overall, Gusto simplifies complex back-office processes into one intuitive system, freeing up time to focus on people and performance rather than paperwork.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

While Gusto is an excellent all-in-one platform, there are a few areas that could be improved. The reporting features, while clean and accessible, can sometimes be limited — especially when you need more custom or detailed accounting exports for multi-entity bookkeeping or departmental tracking.

Additionally, customer support can be hit-or-miss in terms of response time during peak seasons, which can be frustrating when dealing with urgent payroll or tax issues. For HR users, certain advanced functions, like custom PTO policies, time tracking for multiple locations, or benefits administration outside of Gusto’s partner network, can also feel restrictive.

Overall, these are relatively small drawbacks compared to the platform’s ease of use and automation, but they’re worth noting for businesses with more complex accounting or HR structures.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gusto is solving the challenge of managing payroll, HR, and compliance in one integrated system. Before Gusto, these functions were spread across multiple tools, payroll software, spreadsheets for benefits tracking, and separate onboarding systems. Now, everything is centralized, automated, and synced with accounting software like QuickBooks, which saves significant time and reduces the risk of manual errors.

From a bookkeeping perspective, Gusto ensures accurate journal entries and automatic tax filings, eliminating the stress of quarterly or year-end compliance. From an HR standpoint, it streamlines new hire onboarding, document collection, and employee self-service, which improves team efficiency and employee experience.

Overall, Gusto turns what used to be a time-consuming, error-prone process into a smooth, automated workflow, allowing more time to focus on strategic financial management and people operations rather than repetitive admin work.

 ### 39. Streamlined Payroll with Room for Support Improvement

**Rating:** 3.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Carolyn N. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 19, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

I like the automatic tax payments, robust reports, and user interface in Gusto, which make it easy to keep track of revenue and expenses and stay in compliance with tax laws. The setup was easy and interacting with the software is great.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

Y'all's support team could really use some help. I have purposely not used you for benefit administration because I also have an account with a company that does and it was (and still is) a nightmare. It appears like information is not being communicated across teams and it's incredibly difficult to stay on the same page.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Gusto for tax compliance and payroll processing. It makes it easy to keep track of revenue and expenses, stay in compliance with tax laws, and I like the automatic tax payments, robust reports, and user interface.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gusto offers an all-in-one payroll solution that runs payroll, calculates and files taxes for my business so that I don't have to worry about it. It also integrates with my QuickBooks and routes each payroll item (wages, taxes, etc...) to the correct account in QuickBooks after setup taking away the task of manually entering payroll information.

 ### 41. Intuitive, Reliable Payroll Automation That Keeps Us On Time

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Oil & Energy | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 20, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

Gusto is intuitive and user-friendly, making payroll processing efficient and reliable. The system automates tax calculations, filings, and direct deposits, which significantly reduces administrative burden and minimizes the risk of payroll errors. Its clear interface and guided workflows allow payroll to be processed confidently and on time, even during busy operational periods.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

Gusto’s reporting functionality can be somewhat limited for more complex payroll analysis, and customization options are not as robust as some larger enterprise systems. Additionally, certain features or adjustments require contacting customer support rather than being fully self-service, which can slow resolution in time-sensitive situations.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gusto simplifies payroll administration by automating wage calculations, tax withholdings, and payroll tax remittances. This reduces compliance risk, improves accuracy, and saves significant administrative time. As a result, payroll is processed consistently and on schedule, allowing HR to focus on employee support and operational priorities rather than manual payroll corrections.

 ### 42. Challenging Setup, Overwhelming Emails

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User

**Reviewed Date:** February 17, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

I like that Gusto allows me to see previous checks without having to sift through paper. I also like the little gifs you put in my email, and the fact that I can log out whenever I want.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

I dislike all the needless emails and advertising from Gusto, and the unprofessional referrals could be improved. I used to have a human come to my desk and give me my paycheck, but now I get a multitude of spam emails, and there's no one to talk to if my check is messed up. The initial setup was an unmitigated nightmare. I was unable to login by phone at all, and it took several days by browser.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Gusto for payroll, and it solves the problem of accessing previous checks without sifting through paper.

 ### 43. Time-Saver with Robust Payroll Features

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Christian T.

**Reviewed Date:** February 17, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

I love the ability to quickly audit time cards and time off requests, which saves me tons of time compared to manual methods. I also appreciate the feature that allows me to store unlimited documents tied directly to employees, as it helps with accessing corrective actions and storing necessary documents for licensing through the department of agriculture in my industry. Additionally, the initial setup was very easy.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

I don't like how the updates get sprung on us with no notification. We are left kind of figure everything out on our own and there are a lot of updates.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Gusto for payroll, and it solves time tracking, commissions, time off requests, and data storing. It saves me tons of time on manual time cards and helps store documents needed for licensing.

 ### 44. Effortless Contractor Payments, Smooth Integration

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Clay B. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 19, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

I really appreciate how Gusto makes it very easy to pay contractors. Whenever they lead a tour, I can simply log in to Gusto and submit for payment quickly. I also use the contractor tool, which is quite valuable for my business.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

There was a slight issue in the setup process that did not allow me to create contractors. I had to get with support before I could proceed with setting up my account. It appeared my account was pending in registration, but it was an issue on their end, almost like a bug that needed to be fixed, and they have since resolved it.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gusto makes it easy to pay my contractors after they lead a tour, simplifying payroll by allowing me to log in and submit payments effortlessly.

 ### 45. Autopilot Payroll and Easy 401(k)/WC Integrations- Questionable Incentive Program

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Mental Health Care | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 22, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

I like that I can integrate 401k and WC policies into Gusto. I also like that I am able to set payroll on autopilot and it does the work for me, this saves a ton of time. The graphics on the platform are cute too!

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

I used the incentive program to sign up, I never received my incentive and the colleague who referred me to Gusto also did not receive her incentive. When I spoke to customer service about it, they were unhelpful and kept saying it was sent. I checked the date they said it was sent and never received anything. I am questioning if this incentive program is legit.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gusto makes my payroll easy, It's as if you set it up and then forget about it because autopilot does all the work. It saves time to put into my actual profession.

 ### 46. Gusto: Comprehensive HR Solution with Minor Support Gaps

**Rating:** 5.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Audrey A.

**Reviewed Date:** January 07, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

I use Gusto for a variety of important tasks like payroll, time tracking, keeping employee records, and learning. I really appreciate how it helps me with calculating payroll, handling employee termination pay, and fixing mistakes I make on an employee's pay. I like how it provides information about employees' benefits and answers my HR questions. What I like most about Gusto is the comprehensive nature of its features—time tracking, payroll, and keeping up to date with state laws. Submitting all the taxes to the right state departments is also made easier, and I can contact Gusto in different ways. It integrates well with our 401K employees' plan and our state's software, making all of these things important to us. The initial setup of Gusto was very easy, which was crucial for us as our business was growing.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

I know AI is available 24 hours/7 days a week, but sometimes, I would like to speak to a human on the weekend or after Gusto's staff hours.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gusto helps with payroll questions, calculating payroll, finalizing termination pay, and fixing pay mistakes. It tracks employees' information, handles hiring, and provides benefits. It's useful for time tracking and staying updated on laws, ensuring accurate tax submission.

 ### 47. Innovative Design, Challenging Setup

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** ana c.

**Reviewed Date:** January 04, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

I use Gusto for its innovative application design and layout. All systems are automated, making it easy to handle mundane and complicated tasks with just a click. Gusto is especially helpful during tax season, simplifying the process by automating payroll, benefits, and insurance, eliminating the need to manage each file manually. I like how easy it is to run systems for PTO and tasks like clocking into work. Everything is easy to find, which reduces the amount of time needed to teach new employees. During payroll season, Gusto minimizes errors by being up-to-date on how much is owed to each person. It also keeps track of insurance benefits for employees, ensuring they are never without necessary coverage.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

Even though Gusto is very simple to understand and use, the installation process was quite a hassle. We had to contact their customer service team multiple times because the installation was taking too long or it was freezing and making the computer shut down because of how much it was to process on the computer. Integrating all our existing work files into Gusto was also a hassle since it was very slow and it wasn’t a Wi-Fi issue. It was that Gusto was processing too long, so it really held us back a whole week because we had to set up the system.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Gusto to automate payroll, benefits, and insurance tasks, which simplifies complex processes, especially during tax season. It minimizes errors and makes it easy for employees to manage PTO and clock in. This ease of use helps reduce onboarding time for new hires too.

 ### 48. Effortless Payroll Automation with Room for Improvement

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** John G. | CIO, Farming, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 11, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

I appreciate Gusto's ability to solve basic payroll headaches by running payroll unattended and filing taxes for me. It's a relief that everything is taken care of, and I particularly like the feature of running payroll on autopilot as it removes the need to remember to do a repetitive task every week. Additionally, the initial setup of Gusto was very easy.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

More options with tax accounts, especially on the state side. I had to contact support to get it right. Build in the ability to opt out of state taxes for certain employees. Support took care of it, just took extra time.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Gusto solves my basic payroll headaches by running payroll unattended and filing taxes for me. It takes away the need to remember repetitive tasks every week, making everything easier.

 ### 49. Prone to Breaking, with Slow and Unhelpful Support

**Rating:** 1.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Entertainment | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 23, 2026

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

Clocking in and out is pretty easy when the page is working, but it isn't always working. The UI is ok but they also keep changing it for no reason. Overall there's not a ton I have to praise Gusto for.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

The website is very prone to breaking. Customer support is really lacking; it takes a long time to get a response and the responses often aren't very helpful. Trying to get any kind of assistance on issues related to benefits is a nightmare.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I guess it solves the problem of our previous timekeeping system (tracking hours in a spreadsheet and then submitting them to be manually run), but it doesn't do it very well. It works but it's just not a very well-designed system.

 ### 50. Effortless Payroll Management, Needs Improved Support

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sarath A. | Senior Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 26, 2025

**What do you like best about Gusto?**

I find that Gusto provides a seamless experience by acting as a one-stop solution for all employment-related needs. I really appreciate the heads-up feature for scheduled paychecks, which allows me to plan my week accordingly and manage my expenses more effectively. Additionally, the initial setup of Gusto was straightforward because we had all the required information, which made the process smooth and hassle-free.

**What do you dislike about Gusto?**

I dislike Gusto's customer service options. There is no chat option available to directly communicate with a customer care executive, which means I have to either call or send an email for support. This lack of a chat feature is inconvenient and time-consuming when I need quick assistance.

**What problems is Gusto solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I use Gusto for a seamless employment-related experience, managing payroll, time off, and benefits in one place. It provides a helpful pre-payment notification, enabling me to plan expenses effectively.

**Official Response from Samantha Castro:**

> Thanks for the love! We're so glad Gusto helps you manage everything in one place—it’s awesome to hear it feels like having an HR and Finance team in your pocket.
